not sure that's what she wants Oneone. Good on her for being uncomfortable around Morrison. He has no fu cking idea . took his wife to point it out to him. ignorant fu ck. If he was serious about his so called Christianity he would understand what she has been through and address the issue. I have lost all faith in Morrison. pity there isn't much out there to take his place.

Fair enough Slowdown - that is a view held by many. I would also put myself in that camp - just don't think acting like a pretentious prat whilst holding the distinguished honor of AOY is acceptable. For me she tainted the title. She obviously lacks the skill set required to get decision makers working with her to achieve her goals.

She will be the loser in all this.

i understand why you feel that way Oneone and respect your thoughts. i am not sure she was being pretentious. to me she just didnt want to be there and around him. if she has dishonoured the AOY that is a shame but i think she just didnt want to pretend everything was all right around Scotty. cos its not.

The immediate backlash from conservative men in power in response to Grace Tame’s photos with the Prime Minister has exposed how they are the gatekeepers of Parliament’s sexist culture.  Grace Tame’s unforgiving expression next to the Prime Minister became iconic the moment the image was shared.

It also drew swift criticism that can be put straight in the sexist folder. Queensland Liberal Senator James McGrath wrote a Facebook post that criticised Tame as “childish” – an infantilising, belittling word for a courageous Australian of the Year.

Journalist Peter van Onselen offered in his opinion piece for The Australian the tone-deaf, yet telling advice, “If your disdain for [Scott Morrison] is so great ... then just don’t go.”

It’s the same argument from a worn-out misogynists’ playbook. If women’s “disdain” for the political boys club is so great, why should they run for politics? If women “disdain” the system that entrenches our disadvantage, why should we sit at the table and challenge it?  Their criticisms carry a thinly veiled message: women who refuse to obey do not belong in spaces where decisions are made.

This argument has benefited men in power for generations upon generations. Women are expected to nod, smile, be silent and complicit. Women are expected to shoulder the burden of masking our emotions for the comfort of the other.

No one should be expected to smile at a Prime Minister – a servant of the people – who has fallen at every hurdle when it comes to supporting women’s rights. Especially Tame, a survivor of sexual abuse.  It’s not just a few cockroaches in the backyard. It’s a blatant indicator that the whole house is rotten. The critics who have come out publicly swinging against Tame reveal a deeper and more sinister culture of misogyny within Parliament House.

If these individuals have the audacity to publicly smear a woman for refusing to smile, imagine what it is like for a woman intending to speak her mind in the party room?

That article just so misses the point. It had nothing to do with the fact she was a women. No one in a meet & greet should totally disrespect the PM. And ever more so if you are the AOT. A man who did same would also cop big time criticism. The only difference may be he wouldn't have the same support as Tame seems to have - because she is a women.

all the disciples of misogyny are on the loose...

Why should any woman have to smile for the camera? (Or any male, either?) It is mot mandatory. You've all been arguing the 'mandatory' line. So why change tack on a smile.

A faked smile would have been worse. (She gave Jen a brief grin)

Who makes the must smile rules?

don't think so Sunshine - any woman of conscience will understand Morrisons cold misogynistic reaction to a staffers rape claims. His first reaction is always a political one. Not a human one. He is totally out of step with the people .
He is a liar, a political animal and a complete fake. An empty vessel.
He will be wiped out at the election and deservedly so

Your entitled to your opinion JJ. So is Macca. You found his comments disgusting - that's your call.

Fact is this - none of this stuff is 100% right - or 100% wrong. I mean you do realise if you took a global vote on issues such as same sex marriage , women's rights , gender equality , transgender ect you would find our general new aged view to be well & truly in the minority. Christ we have whole religions out there based on male domination. So its not as straight forward as some would like it to be - & no surprise that someone in his late 80's might see things a touch differently than you would like.

Have we spoken about the uproar when Kenneth Hayne refused to sign the treasurers hand when delivering the royal commission into financial services?

Or, at Hawkes funeral, when Scomo refused to shake hands with Shortern?

Or let’s talk about the bushfires when on multiple occasions Scomo forcibly shook hands with victims, who wanted no part of it?

Funny, no outrage here, about any of those times.
Why?

It's attitudes like yours and his that set society back into the dark ages.

Rape is never acceptable...under any circumstance.

You and Stayer need to come to your senses and think about the fact you are supporting a statement which was repugnant to any decent human being. Macca was in the wrong...in a hugely repulsive way. Someone had to say something. Two others beat me to it, but I had the guts to take him on.

Try putting on a dress, oneone, and subject yourself to the rubbish that women are put through...all because men think they can dictate what we should do. It's 2022, not Neanderthal times.

Is rape ever even remotely right? Is saying that a woman allowed herself to be raped for a possible honour, even 1% right?

About time some people on this site re-wired their brains and looked hard at what they are saying.

How would you react if Grace Tame was your daughter...or wife?

She had every right to show her anger at the way Scomo has non-handled the year of female abuse.

Using her platform is what the position is all about. Clap

Cannot agree - along with many, many others. In football terms can best be described as a cheap shot. Or in boxing terms a low blow. Bet we don't see Dylan use that approach to improve the lives of the Disabled.

Chalk & cheese as a starting point maybe - not sure !

LOL

That's how some will perceive it I suppose. The reality is it is never as straight forward as that. If you applied the Porter criteria from back in his Uni days half the male population would be getting locked up. I would be one of them most likely. Different times. And the Miss Higgins case will come to light in a court room - so lets wait & see how that goes down before throwing too many harpoons.

Just a comment. Up until a few days ago i had told anyone who ever wanted to listen I couldn't vote for Scommo again. Sick of his crap. I now realise i have swung back in behind him over this issue. Have a feeling others may have done similar - may be wrong of course.
