Yep selectors will really feel they owe McSweeney another chance after he has went back and banged the door down with a Shield average of 26 this season.

No because they threw him to the wolves selecting him in the unfamiliar opening position against the worlds best fast bowler. Fair point though, he still has to score some runs to earn the chance.

India have thrashed New Zealand to seal back to back T20 World Cup victories and become the first nation to win 3 T20 WCs.

England were literally 1x six away from holding India to a draw in the semi final.
Bethell once again showed his talent, by scoring a hundred, the only one in the match, ordinarily a knock like that would win most teams the game, alas it was not to be. It was harry Brooke's dropped catch of Indian opener Sanju Samson that lost England the match. Brook dropped an absolute sitter at mid on when Sampson missed timed one on 20 odd, the drop was so costly. Sampson went on to make 80 odd, it was his big hitting that took the Indian total to 250+ a total that is huge in any format of T-20. Jofra Archer hit 3 sixes in the final over to get England to within 7 runs of winning, so close and yet so far. Harry Brook will have nightmares about that match, it was deffo the one that got away. A final against NZ would have been very interesting remembering back to the 2019 ODI world cup final. |

Pro tip; the first wicket isn't until the last ball of the over.
The 3rd wicket is highly dubious, I watched it slowed right down and it appears to possibly brush his shoulder ? Also first time I've ever heard the ball hit the pitch like that every ball, strange audio/mic settings, the ball movement is wild.
Thought it was Broady running at first..

Cam Green is 130 not out in the Shield, but Konstas only got 38, HG will have mixed emotions. Kellaway also manged 66 in the Shield final rehearsal, so the slow, bumbling race toward someone failing up into the test opening position continues. Renshaw managed only 10 and Labuschagne 20, which will no doubt immensely please HG.

Pleased? Not really.
What I am is understanding that these Shield games all averaged under 300 for their first innings (which is actually probably one of the higher rounds if not the highest) and so you need to pick 11 players from these guys to full a test team. You need 3 blokes to bat alongside Head & Smith. All 3 of them probably wouldn't have a got look in in previous eras. One of them may as well be the 20yo with good talent and enormous upside if given the experience.

But why reward mediocrity because you think the kid might become the next Ed Cowan in a few years? Unless Konstas scores heavily in county cricket in the winter Renshaw is the man who deserves the spot.
3 is the biggest question mark right now, Labuschagne isn't making runs but nobody else is either.

Same Renshaw who averaged 29 last Shield season which included a 125n.o?
Now with the facts of Konstas being out the side 12 months I actually wouldn't be against Renshaw coming in now as he has had a good 25-26 season. But that has only developed the past couple months, well before I first started banging on about Konstas. Renshaw was not in the conversation 12 months ago when Konstas wildly got left out of the Sri Lanka XI. |

The same Renshaw who has 478 runs from 10 innings at 53 with 3 hundreds this season, but you've ignored that because it works against your golden boy, who really isn't that golden.

Are you blind? Literally said Renshaw has had a good 25/26 season and wouldnt be against him coming into the side now.

Afros is going to come strolling into this thread with a grin on his face with news Konstas will miss out on a CA contract.
Thats alright though because NSW have brought in Haddin to coach. Perfect skill set to rub off on Konstas to turn all those starts he gets into big scores. As Haddin said yesterday, to paraphrase, Konstas has done the hard part which is getting a start as an opener. Averaging 33 without a 50 shows how consistent he got starts. Guy has got the skills, now add in Haddins attitude and we're going to have summer after summer of hundreds for Konstas over the next 10-15yrs.

![]() ![]() ![]() Although I have no need to
follow his career now as I'm sure you'll be in to remind is daily that
you called it, should he ever manage to score another test 50.
