I don't know if there is already a cricket thread one that's not just focussing on test cricket, if so gay can you merge, otherwise we can use this thread to discuss all things non test cricket, like ODI's T20 internationals etc.
Subman Gill currently 166 in Indias ODI game against NZ, there was a strange umpiring decision earlier where Pandik was given out bowled and he clearly wasn't, keepers gloves knocked the bails off, how can they make such a blatant wrong decision is beyond me.

NZ need 350 to win off 50 overs, I don't think so, but will be interesting to see, they can do it only if they get a good start, if they don't then no hope imo. They will need around 100 off the power-play to be in the hunt.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke and Today Show host Karl Stefanovic have reportedly been filmed in a stunning confrontation that saw the former accused of cheating. As reported by https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/celebrity-stoush-michael-clarke-and-karl-stefanovic-in-wild-scuffle-amid-cheating-claims/news-story/f937e4eeb61731dbf9b68cdc4500867c" rel="nofollow - The Daily Telegraph , the ugly incident occurred on January 10 in Noosa where Clarke and Stefanovic were holidaying with partners Jade and Jasmine Yarbrough. The publication reports they were at dinner when Clarke was confronted by his girlfriend, Jade, who had reportedly been in contact with the former cricketer’s ex-partner Pip Edwards. Watch BBL12. The situation continued to escalate, however, with Clarke taking aim at Stefanovic. “Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing walk away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t,” Clarke says.
Jade continues to scream at Clarke and hits him again “You piece of s**t, don’t you f**king speak to him,” she says. After Clarke continues to insist that he did nothing wrong, she says: “Oh am I wrong? You f**ked her (Edwards) on December 17, you f***ed her … you’re a f***ing dog … I’m going to show her every f***ing message you ever f***ing sent me.” Adding insult to injury for Clarke was that at some point during the incident, he appeared to suffer an injury. Clarke can be seen in the video limping as he walks after Jade, and reaching down to his right leg. In a statement to The Daily Telegraph, Clarke said he “accepts full responsibility” for the incident and is "shattered” by his actions. “I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position,” he told the publication. “My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable. “I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.” “I own this fully and am the only one at fault.”

There's something about Michael Clarke and Karl Stevanovic being married to/dating sisters called Jade and Jasmine that is just perfect. Almost like it's a simulation.

Bracewell nearly pulled it off himself, if he had better support they might have got there. They were 131/6 at one stage with no hope at all, but Bracewell and Santner with that epic partnership marched towards the target almost making me look like a fool.

My old man was such an Christmas pudding when I was a kid, seriously I was obsessed with cricket all my life as a young boy, its all I thought about day and night. I would practice by myself cause no one would play with me, throwing a ball at a ball with my right hand and then quickly holding the bat to play a return shot, I would dive around pretending to catch the ball in the yard and in my room, I practiced bowling at the BBQ at the end of the yard etc.. all with a tennis ball. Every so often the old man would get the hard cork ball out from the laundry where he kept it from me, tell me to get in front of the brick BBQ and bowl to me. I used to start getting very upset as I knew what was coming, he thought it was funny to send down a hard ball, as fast as he could bowl it at me, from about 20 feet away, with no pads or gloves ( wouldn't buy them for me, just had a shtty cheap Kmart bat ) he would send that ball down at me so fast, I'd literally be ducking and jumping out of the way, using the bat to defend myself as he laughed and made fun of me. I used to go inside with bruises all over me, he'd grab my ear and walk me inside give a smack round the back of the head and told I'm crap at cricket I should give up, meanwhile my sister is on the swing set and my mum is at the kitchen sink saying nothing.
So when I hear the words back yard cricket that's what my mind conjures up. I'm sure its something much happier for most people..

Bloody hell. Sounds like a lovely man. Those cork balls were killers.
Yeah backyard cricket was a happy memory to a lot of aussies. When you had a mate who had an ideal backyard/ driveway and a group of mates you could spend all day playing. Some of the rules we came up with - eg 6 if you hit a certain spot on a wall. Then there was indoor cricket with a squash ball and those little souvenir bats. Good times.

We made our own tiny bats before those souvenir bats were a thing, we made them out of school rulers and paddle pop sticks, sticky taped the paddle pop sticks to the top and you had a handle, we used rolled up foil for the ball, on your knees cricket was fun, that one we played at school a lot and on the rare occasions I could go to someone's house we played too.
|

Good stuff. Who needs bloody i-Pads?
Did you ever make REALLY mini bats with 3 half-paddle pop sticks glued together and then you cut/ sand them until you have a little bat the size of your thumb with a handle? Then you decorate it with the brands of the time - Grey Niccols, DF, etc? Everyone in primary school had their own little collections.

yes all that and more, everything was about having a gray nicholls, slazenger or duncan fernley gear. I remember this one time we got soooooo excited we were allowed to use one of the first ever Slazenger bats with the big black cat down the back of the blade, no oil bat had a polymer coating, the school bought 2 of them for school cricket team, we borrowed them from the sports store in school all the time, man we thought we were Viv Richards holding those things.
Used to draw bats in school books all the time, always about those cool brands. I had a bat, it had to be oiled, ugh.. it was made in Pakistan and had some unknown sticker brand on it, it was a xmas present, I asked for a Gray Nichols or Slazenger but got this piece of crap, was thin and had a red rubber handle that got sticky in no time, hated it but used it as that's all I had, handle went on it within first 6 months.

I always got my spoiled brother's hand-me-downs, which were always good but never felt right for me. One Christmas when I was about 14 I got a Duncan Fearnley - I think the one Allan Border used ("magnum" maybe?) and I'll never forget how sweet it felt in the nets for the first time. I was suddenly doing shots I never could do. And it didn't need oiling!
My brother still has this huge thick heavy thing that Rod Marsh used with Rod Marsh's signature on it. I'm imagining it's a County, but were they around back then?

One more cricket bat story. When I was about 10 we had to do a "talk" in class and I rang up the Grey Nicolls factory in Melbourne and asked them if they could send me any info about how bats were made etc (before the internet!) They must have loved a kid ringing them because they told me they'd prepare a pack for me for free with little samples like wood off-cuts, stickers etc and an info thing about how they're made. My mum took me in to collect it and I was so excited. I practised that talk about 100 times. Then on the day I froze up! I'd always liked doing talks, debating etc, but this one day I got stage fright and it was awful. I ended up just handing round the stuff. The bitch teacher said (I'll never forget it), "It started off well but went downhill from there."

Alan Border wouldn't be as famous as he is now if it wasn't for Ian Botham giving him his Duncan Fearnley bat to use, Border says it made him as batsman as he was in poor form up that moment and he could finally play the shots he wanted, all due to that bat Botham gave him.

LOL I did something similar but it was for a fishing magazine another thing I loved as a kid, and I wrote a letter to Dick Lewers the editor, he liked my story and questions about fishing for mullet he sent me a brand new lure in its box, I was so stoked I tell you, those days back then seem so innocent and pure.

I had an old cricket bat from the forties, which I inherited from my father, who was an A-grade cricketer with Waverley. Used it to play cricket with my brother and friends, using the pillars of Bronte School's entrance as the wicket. The grandmother of the singer, Johnny O'Keefe, lived directly opposite the school and we regularly broke her front windows...then bolted before getting caught. She eventually put iron bars on the windows and we resumed playing.
Had that bat until very recently...it still held up after nearly eighty years...but then I gave it to my nephew as a keepsake.
I was a mean leg-spin bowler. The boys hated facing me. I reckon I could still roll the arm and take a few wickets...but no-one in the family plays anymore.

The BBL draw must be done as last job on a Friday before everyone heads to the pub.
Perth have already played all of their fixtures while Hobart have still got two to play, the other 6 have 1 fixture each remaining.
Brisbane Heat played their two fixtures against Perth consectutively and finished with Stars-Hurricanes-Stars-Hurricanes, numerous other examples of stupidity like this.
It just amazes me how sporting organisations in Australia (the NRL draw being no better) can manage to plan such stupidities into their fixtures.

Probably by trying to be to clever by half with the draw.
Hobart play today vs the Sixers and Wednesday vs the Heat, should tbey finish 4th or 5th they'll play a final on Friday with the winner of that to play Sunday against the 3rd placed side.
Perth finished yesterday and the Sixers today, both now don't play again until the 28th, in that time Hobart could play another 2 matches.
There is stupidity all throughout the draw when you look into it, Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder and Adelaide all played their second match of the season the day before Perth played their first, numerous examples of teams playing each other twice in close proximity.
How is it hard to just to have the draw split into rounds of 4 match ups and go from there?

Agreed, but I doubt we will see test cricket after the Sydney New Years test for a while, unless they decide to hold tests in Feb. This January window is now seen as BBL territory.
In another example of CA's legendary scheduling, none of the test squad players will be available for the grand final qualifier or the grand final itself as they'll be preparing for the India tests.

The whole Big Bash competition is compromised by international players turning up to play for a team, then playing three or four games and shuffling off to play for another team in South Africa, UAE or somewhere in the Caribbean. There is little loyalty by players as in one season they play or team A and the following season team B. The whole cannot be treated seriously as a genuine competition but rather a bit of hit and giggle by serious cricket followers.

This is why I can't stand all these t20 comps, one day a player you like who's in your international team is in a team where he is best mates with a rival player from an international rival..one season they can play for team X and then next season they are celebrating scoring big runs for another team..? how can anyone support this crap seriously ?
This is why I only like international cricket, the players in your team are never going to be team mates with the the enemy, period. Same with footballers, does my head in they are celebrating scoring a goal for United one day and the next season they are celebrating just as much for a different club, there's no solidarity.

At least with most of the football codes the players will have one, maybe two clubs max over a year, some of this players in these T20 leagues could play in 5 or 6 different leagues in the one season, I think it was djebel who said a while ago he thinks it will either be this generation or the next one that produces the first superstar player who doesn't play red ball cricket at all and he's probably right due to the money involved. But at what cost to the game long term?
Check out the number of teams Chris Gayle has represented over his career, I wonder how many he would even be able to list off?

I am the proper full on cricket tragic, anything cricket I'm there but I cannot and will not ever pay any interest in the BBL. Other T20 tournaments I will glance at like the Jamaican one and the South African one, the Blast in the UK, caught some of the T10 euro championships, I even watched the IPL a bit during covid. But BBL, I can count the amount of balls I've seen bowled on one hand, it just is utterly unappealing imo. I can't see how it will remain appealing to people in 10 more years, it's just so boring and one dimensional.

It's no different to the plethora of start-up T20 leagues all over the world fiddler, for mine the problem with most is they lack either the longevity of a football season to create intrigue or the stability of player involvement to keep people interested. Look at this BBL season, some players jetted off to the next T20 league half way through and the test players come in at the tail end and depart again before it's over.

Gees , Pat Cummins is copping a lot of stick about his views on climate change , my advise to him is live it, don't talk it Patty old boy , you are coming across as an A grade hypocrite as most people who are true advocates for climate change don't drive around in a SUV Diesel guzzler, just play cricket mate .

Well if you pair of old twats think Pat's a clown for supporting climate then I'm going to have to say I quite like the lad now. There's nothing quite a good person doing good things with a good heart to dredge up the cold hearted stench, of cynical old right wingers.
So what because he plays sport he's not allowed to have an opinion on world affairs ? I still drive a petrol car and eat meat too, does that make me a hypocrite because I support change in the way we do things to make the world a cleaner place ?

I agree with Fiddles.
Why should any person not be allowed an opinion?
Doesn't matter if he is a sportsperson or a vagrant on the street.

First of all, Fiddles has zero idea what my thoughts are re climate change as I haven’t posted anything on the subject but yet he launches a personal attack at his perceived view. A view that he’s invented, seemingly to exert himself from his keyboard
Now, JJ. I agree. Any person should be allowed an opinion. I respect Pats right and probably support him on climate change….to a large degree.
Personally, I just think, as a sportsman, especially our cricket captain, that he should not use that position to push his own personal views.
Not sure why anyone wants to get abusive……especially as all I did, like Pat, was express a view

It’s not a backtrack at all. I was perfectly clear that I believe people should not use their position to push their views when those views are not in their “field of relevance “
Climate change has nothing to do with cricket. The Australian cricket Captain should talk about cricket.
What he says as an individual in his own private life is up to him.
Just my view

Certain football clubs have been criticised for politicising certain issues not related to football.
It comes down to if you have some clout, then use it for the good.

Yes it does , if you are not living it and expect others to have more courage to change . You have not only grouped me ,you have also labelled me a right winger , (yes I've got greys and sometimes I'm cynical ) which is utter rot as played centre in rugby league and a tagger in AFL , and my exact words were "True Advocate", with True being the word , as so you under stand my post a little better now , I'm not someone using my social and media status to ask others to lead the way , so their heavy footprints are smoothed over by the real believers and doers . Notice whoever you are I have restrained from any personal attack arising of your comments. So, your way of helping thee blokes stand up a heavy pole is by encouraging them that they are doing a Stirling job is it ? , by the sounds of things 😂

It’s quite simple. Sponsorships actually keeps our sports alive. Without them all major sport would be dead in its current form. Supporting a sponsors product is not damaging to the sport
A charity is not political. It’s about helping others.

errr climate change is part of most power companies futures/portfolios, you know the team is sponsored by Alinta energy right ? Climate IS ALL ABOUT helping others, that's the entire point of it, it's the most insanely selfless thing people can do, in fact Jesus himself ( if true or alive ) would applaud it.
Climate action is about securing a future for humans who are coming after we are dead, its not for us, it is for others to come. It's the antithesis of doing good for others, this is why I don't get deniers, it's a good thing to do for others, it's basically the foundations of what a charity is. Setting up clean energy no matter how hard logistically it is, will mean a long long long healthy future for humans. Climate action means to give away our lazy oil comforts and work towards other better, cleaner ways to work & live, ways that don't affect the environment as much, pollute the oceans like we do now, or ruin our species chances of survival. Once the hard work is done, it will look after itself forever. Can you imagine that world, a world so full of clean air and green forests, life expectancy would shoot through the roof, a myriad of disease and health crisis could be averted, goodness me I will be so jealous, I would love to live in that world. That world where everything is being powered by the stars and natural forces, a place where work is no longer a drag and smog is no longer a thing, the benefits are just mind blowingly endless. Deniers can't see this, I don't understand why?

I wonder if Pat expressed the opposite view if you’d support him using his position.
Some how I doubt it
As to you scenario about about living in a pristine world, I don’t know anyone who would disagree with that. I certainly wouldn’t

what about cigarettes, alcohol or the rampant pollution in the oceans from all the cans and bottles of sugar water these "sponsors" provide ? that's not for the sport of the environment, it's for one thing, shareholders profits, sponsorships are for the company to make money, they use sport as a billboard for themselves. Sport came from no sponsors and survived for many many years, and now is just addicted to it.

of course I wouldn't, but that isn't really a position is it, it's just the norm, he'd look like a right gobbler if he was preaching hey just keep doing what we are doing people, keep using your coal and oil my fans !! That's going backwards not forwards. You can bet Pat has a brain and is clever enough to use it and have the approval of his primary sponsor to do so too.

It does make one think about how CA plans things, doesn't it? The NRL and AFL always seem to schedule games on week day public holidays, take advantage of another day when people are at home, this time cricket has the final day of its T20 competition finish with two games with finals implications the day before a public holiday and the first final of the competition the day after the public holiday.
They must use the same promotions experts as Rugby Australia.

So if I drink a can of coke ,the company that makes the product is responsible for my lack of care for the disposal of the said item. That sounds great I might start hanging Goggins on the foot path and just generally recklessly, as what you are stating the the byproduct of what I consume is not my responsibility it's who I buy it from . People are the problem and their poor habits . Selfish behaviour and lack of accountability for their our own actions ,may well start by educating kids at school the consequences, maybe by taking them down the beach and get them to pick up other people's garbage . Or maybe to pick up the KFC Buckets , and chicken bones that the sponsor willy Nillingly threw out of the corporate box they were in . I'm sorry but the only way that change will occur is the by chooses we make at the bottom of the humanity pyramid . |
