I read my copy for the second time last week.  I first read it in 1993.
In a way the book is a bit disappointing as there is no insight into the selection of the better runners or the work put into analysing the sales catalogues.
They bought plenty of duds.
It would be interesting if there was an appendix with all their buys, cost and later race earnings, and for those who became stallions their fees and number of covers.
That will never happen.

Hardback, in good / very good condition.
When I saw the prices asked for the book on the internet I wrapped the dust jacket in Adaptaroll, a transparent plastic cover used to protect dust jackets.

How much is it worth, Diomed ?  Mine is only paper back but good condition.  Been on the shelf for years.
Anyone have any idea if  Wild Ride  is hard to come by as I have been told it is, but dont know if thats true ?
I have all these books and we have no kids, and I hate the thought of them going to the tip.

Talking about the Horse Trader, he certainly had a Wild Ride on a personal level:

Sangster enjoyed a lively social life, entertaining lavishly in his box at Royal Ascot.[2] Barry Hills, who trained more than 30 Group-race winners for Sangster, said, "We celebrated when we won, and usually celebrated when we lost".[24] The racing correspondent Julian Wilson said of Sangster: "His pleasures were boxing, champagne, golf, racing and beautiful women, in no particular order, and often more than one at the same time."[8]

Sangster was married and divorced three times. In May 1960 he married Christine Street, leaving her in 1976 (divorcing in 1978) for socialite Susan Peacock, the ex-wife of Australian Liberal Party politician Andrew Peacock. That marriage did not last, with Sangster having well-publicised affairs with Jerry Hall and Susan Lilley. Sangster married Lilley in 1985, divorcing in 2000. By his first wife he had three sons, Guy, Ben and Adam, and a daughter, Kate. With Susan Lilley he had two sons, Sam and Max.[2][9]

That's a fact AA!

This from another thread:

The West Indies cricketers were touring Australia in 1976 and Vanburn Holder was guest at the club I was coaching at the time.

So afterwards I drove him back to the team’s accommodation at the prestigious Windsor Hotel in Melbourne.

And there was John Singleton in the famed Cricketers Bar with his latest hottie balanced and bobbing up and down on his lap.  Reckon there was more than champers spilled in the bar that evening.  Embarrassed

Ahh Geez , SC.  I remember Singo arriving via chopper to Newie , on one of the big days.   Strutting around with his hottie on his arm.
Public spruiker going off about him being there.
Everyone sort of gob smacked and silent.
Then out of the masses comes this voice.
F**k Off mate.
Everyone cracked up.

My guess is Horsetrader would sell for about Euro 100.
My guess is the book prices quotes are way too high, a bit like the prices at select yearling sales.
(I analysed 2,000+ yearlings at a yearling sale and 29 of the top 30 by auction price earned 3.2% of their auction price on the racecourse.)

When checking prices I noticed a book offered for about Euro 300.
As far as I know it is still on sale in the bookstores here (Ireland) for about Euro 15 and it is a terrible read.
The author used the same hackneyed bloodstock journalist expression so many times I went back and counted.
He used the expression more than 350 times, and three times on one page.
It was a struggle to finish that unedited, repetitive, disorganised effort.

Fwiw I paid USD 300 for a couple of small booklets, about USD 3 a page.
And I already had those books.
But usually I buy from a UK second-hand bookseller whose prces are reasonable.
