I read my copy for the second time last week. I first read it in 1993. In a way the book is a bit disappointing as there is no insight into the selection of the better runners or the work put into analysing the sales catalogues. They bought plenty of duds. It would be interesting if there was an appendix with all their buys, cost and later race earnings, and for those who became stallions their fees and number of covers. That will never happen. Hardback, in good / very good condition. When I saw the prices asked for the book on the internet I wrapped the dust jacket in Adaptaroll, a transparent plastic cover used to protect dust jackets. ------------- foalmare.com - my thoughts about pedigree |

How much is it worth, Diomed ? Mine is only paper back but good condition. Been on the shelf for years. Anyone have any idea if Wild Ride is hard to come by as I have been told it is, but dont know if thats true ? I have all these books and we have no kids, and I hate the thought of them going to the tip. ------------- animals before people. |

I just looked at amazon and paperback is $119.99. And Wild Ride hardly worth anything. I dont understand if thats in Australia tho, or you have to pay overseas shipment ? ------------- animals before people. |

My guess is Horsetrader would sell for about Euro 100. My guess is the book prices quotes are way too high, a bit like the prices at select yearling sales. (I analysed 2,000+ yearlings at a yearling sale and 29 of the top 30 by auction price earned 3.2% of their auction price on the racecourse.) When checking prices I noticed a book offered for about Euro 300. As far as I know it is still on sale in the bookstores here (Ireland) for about Euro 15 and it is a terrible read. The author used the same hackneyed bloodstock journalist expression so many times I went back and counted. He used the expression more than 350 times, and three times on one page. Fwiw I paid USD 300 for a couple of small booklets, about USD 3 a page. And I already had those books. But usually I buy from a UK second-hand bookseller whose prces are reasonable. ------------- foalmare.com - my thoughts about pedigree |

After reading this (i am a bit behind) I checked my bookshelf. Got a perfect condition hard cover which i obviously read once 30 years ago and parked on the shelf. Ebay here I come I guess.
