Put this in the comps thread but applies here also

Half Yours is a throw back to Artilleryman (Melbourne Cup, AJC Derby, VRC St Leger, Memsie S, Caulfield Guineas, Rawson S etc).  He was produced by Half Your's 12th dam Cross Battery herself the granddaughter of Crossfire winner of the AJC Oaks and Doncaster H.  Cross Battery was inbred to that good mare Juliet.  This is old old Australasian blood - both Aussie and NZ.  Nice to know that someone went back looking for that type of blood but apart from Vain (pure speed), the line of stallions after St Jean (with his loving Teofilo blood and Height of Fashion female line) including Desert King (Makybe Diva), Raami (Ramyah), Tristino (A son of Sir Tristram), Sharp Edge (Rom's Stiletto), Showdown (Silver Sharpe, Leica Show), Dalray (Melbourne Cup), Pantheon (Peter Pan), Magpie (Windbag).  Let me stop there it's a staying pedigree and thank heavens they are sending him out over a trip!

yep.  I've been doing stakes race pedigrees since my teens and guess who turns up every season in so many female lines.  The big three in Australia and Eulogy, Manto and Juliet so far as female lines still performing centuries after they first arrived in Australasia.

Eulogy is back out performing on the world stage with Starspangledbanner.  Juliet did the same with So You Think and earlier had a mare go to Japan which ended with a couple of G1's over there.  Manto had Trenton go early in our history but she had Written Tycoon and Anamoe among her more recent triumphs.

Those three female lines and that of Chelandry 1n are my favourites by far.

Yeah we have a mare trace back to Manto right now. Believe Holler and Microphone are also close up in said pedigree. Hopefully it means something.

Scratchy you get good and bad.  But you get more good out of the better lines.  Hense more stakes winners or stakes runners.

We will see how the Filly goes. Currently is 2, a bit gangly and still growing they think. Still hoping for her to run on the earlier side of next year as she's done well in the pre-training.

I have been wrong about this before (Let's Elope and Saintly come to mind), but I have serious doubts about him at 3200m.

I will concede his hopes lift if we are into the heavy.

If he can do no work early and find a bum to follow that will give him his best hope.

I still think he had every hope at Caulfield and won, but the next three behind him for me were better runs.

Can't understand why everyone seems to be wanting to look around Half Yours out of the CC.

He sprinted when he needed to which really was a quick 2-3 lengths on the field. Then was as strong as any to the line until eased late by Jamie.

River of Stars was excellent, no knock on her at all, I just think Half Yours was better.

Valiant King, great to the eye but he did have the cheap run back in the field and through on the rails. Again thought HY was better.

Presage Nocturned, I don't get it from a winning perspective.  Followed HY and was dropped, only made late ground when HY eased.  Good for the back end of a first four but cannot have him beating HY.

HY has given no reason to think he won't stay the distance and gets his preferred toe in.  If he doesn't stay I will do my few sheckels, but I think those in behind have been overplayed by comparison.

I had a few good collects earlier in the year with a mare called Jugan.

He got his first Saturday winner today at Murray Bridge with a gelding called Keevs winning over 2500m.

Checking out Keevs breeding, you won’t see a more stamina heavy pedigree if you tried.  Dam is by My Patriarch, who was a Hayes family import who broke down in a 1994 Cups campaign but had won a few big 3200m races in the UK. There’s also good staying stallions in previous generations in Oregon, Star Way &
Le Fripon.

For those looking to breed a stayer or jumper, I’d be giving St Jean some due consideration.

I’ve been singing the praises of St Jean for a few years now.  Nobody is listening really.

But he’s finally got himself a banner horse in Half Yours - dominant winner of the Naturslism Stks today.  Onwards & upwards to the Caulfield Cup Thumbs Up

History LT.

1. Only 12 horses have won the cups double and I do not mean to me mean but he is not the best one I have seen attempt it.

2. He rises a chunk in weight. He sprinted quickly as you said but the three behind him were pulling ground off him late and that extra weight has proven hard to overcome. Incentivise could not do it and in my ratings he was a better stayer than Half Yours and horses like Elvstroem and Paris lane who again on my ratings were better horses could not do it, but they did run top four.

3. He had every hope in the Caulfield Cup, and yes he got the job done but it would be a miracle if everything went right for him at Flemington.

4. Valiant King and Prestage Nocturne will be far better off at Flemington. Valiant King was never ever let go at Caulfield and from the gate and over the extra distance I would be surprised if he got as far back as he did there and in the Bart Cummings.

5. His main aim was the Caulfield Cup. Now I am certain the stable would not be running if had shown any glimpses of training off, but this race is a secondary aim and we have seen that situation not end well in the past.

Again having said that he does have the best form but he will need to be champion stayer to win!

Just like the top weight. I have no doubt he is the best credentialled runner but the history of horses with that weight means he is a no go bet for most.

To add I think this is better edition of the race than average.

You know how you can tell when your see a great horse in action, when it defies history and not only wins, but dominates a race.

We may never see him race at 3200m again, but he is a horse who could develop into a WFA horse next year.

I know he carried a lightweight here but on his level of improvement if he can win the Tancred I would love to see him go overseas for a shot at the Arc.

Congrats to the connections and especially the trainers and jockey Thumbs Up

St Jean took up residency at the Dwyer's farm in 2017.

He served 27 mares at a service fee of $3300.

After that first season, St Jean's book fluctuated, mostly in a downwards direction, hitting 21 in 2019 and as low as five in 2024.

"It's been very unfortunate that either the Victorian breeding industry didn't see what I saw in the pedigree, or they didn't want to breed stayers,'' Dwyer said.

"And up until now, he'd had only served mares owned by breeders who purely wanted to race the progeny.

"There has never been a yearling sold by this horse."

To be fair he hardly had a racing career that inspired patronage at stud, He was always going to have to it the hardest way possible.

Durbridge, who was a seriously great horse struggled at a similar fee.
