Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet, the abandonment of the last at Ascot on Saturday due to the state of the track.

The running rail was initially moved out 3m between the 600 and 400 part way through the meeting to hide a "blocked" (whatever that means?) spot at around the 500 after Red Can Man baulked at it in the G3 Colonel Reeves.  The final race of the card was abandoned and moved to Wednesdays Belmont meeting.

Not a good look for them given their biggest race is to be run this Saturday alongside the WA Guineas.

I wonder the chances of the Railway Stakes meeting being run at Belmont?

The area that was blocked was apparently affected by a fertiliser spill a couple of weeks ago.

No idea why they did not put the rail out for the meeting.

The rail for the Railway will now be outside the affected area so should be OK

I was just reading that as well, it'll go out 7m for the Railway, another 3m for the Winterbottom and potentially come back to true for the Northerly meeting.

3 questions:

How much does it cost to fly a horse from Syd or Melb across to Perth?

Is this the only flight going west for the carnival?

Zoumon is not entered for any of the G1 races.  What is his target race? CB Cox Stks & Perth Cup?

Given the way they last few years have gone, they'll probably be happy to have a few Eastern nominations to help sure up their G1 events from a potential downgrade.

The Saturday card at Ascot has been pushed back due to the expected heat on Saturday, with the feature Railways Stakes now to jump at 6:09pm local time, which will be 8:09pm EST, or 9:09pm in Melbourne and Sydney with daylight savings time.

Not the fault of racing WA but I'm sure thats only going to have a negative impact on turnover from the Eastern states.

Would be really good to see night racing in WA, at Ascot for example. Could be a way to combat the heat somewhat. Lights would have to be put in so they'd be a cost for that plus other things etc.

Should be an option that WA racing should look at in my opinion.

All that would do is sacrifice betting turnover from over east, although I guess if they managed to strike into the Asian markets that might cover any shortfall?

First race has been abandoned today due to the heat.

Surely the card must be in question? The AJ Scahill Cup over 2100m is schedule for 4:33pm when the temp is forecast to still be sitting close to 35 degrees.

I wonder have they considered rescheduling some of the lesser races elsewhere and running a 4-5 race card once the heat has subsided later in the day, I'm no expert but I question the wisdom of having horses running over any distance, particularly a longer distance, in expected 35 degree temps.

Just seems to be risking a PR disaster that Perth Racing doesn't need.

Well that's bad luck for the club , I trained there for 10 years between the 70s and 80s , the big hitters came to town TJ , Bart , CS , George Hanlon and plenty more , some wonderfull horses too , the Railway was run on Boxing Day and the Cup on Jan. 1 , the joint was a buzz for a couple of weeks , old Magistrate won the Cup twice , Dayana , Bianco Lady trained by Bobby Thompson , George brought Family of Man and Romantic Dream , of course the King was there ( winning ) American jockey Steve Cauthen was also there , many tales to tell LOL but there gone , and won't be back imo .

Cooler change has come in early. temp now down to 34 at the airport which is closer to the track than the city (where it is 32).

Great day for the Parnhams winning the Guineas and Railway, both ridden by Steven, trained and part owned by Neville.

Tuvalu looked the unlucky runner in the Railway for mine, he looked ready to pounce rounding the turn but just couldn't seem to find a run, reports on the race didn't say much but it'll be interesting to see Jamie Kahs comments on the race.

I suspect the Guineas form might be string.
I was all over the 2nd horse, A lot of Good Men who ran a bottler at a huge price. The winner was declared by Parnham and got a dream run

1st – BUSTLER (Steven Parnham) Sometimes you just ride on instinct and that's what Dad lets me do. In the run, I was pretty excited. When I gave this horse a squeeze he flew, and then I thought ‘hold on boy'. Dad is a master, I can't have any more admiration for how he gets his horses ready.

2nd – ALSEPHINA (William Pike) She ran really well. Just found one better on the day. It was a good effort. Second in a Group 1, it's still good.

3rd – DOM TO SHOOT (Jordan Turner) He was super. We were able to sort of take the shortcuts through him and he's screaming out for the 1800m.

4th – TRIX OF THE TRADE (Troy Turner) Yeah, a little bit unlucky

5th – MOJO RHYTHM (Holly Watson) Mitchell's done a huge job with this horse. Obviously he won a class one at Pinjarra or something like that. But to come to the Group 1, he did a huge job

6th – MASSIMO (Clint Johnston-Porter) He ran out of his skin. Just a shame I didn't draw a gate, I probably run a spot or two closer.

7th – COMFORT ME (Peter Knuckey) No comment available

8th – MAROCCHINO (Chris Parnham) No comment available

9th – THE VELVET QUEEN (Patrick Carbery) No comment available

10th – ROOTS (Tommy Berry) Had a beautiful run following the winner, but as soon as we went around the last corner, she dropped the bit and failed to finish.

11th – SEARCHIN ROC'S (Jason Brown) Yeah, she ran honest

12th – TUVALU (Jamie Kah) Yeah, he was really disappointing. I think he's ran like a flat horse today. So, yeah, I can't offer much more apart from that.

13th – STARTRADE (Chris Nicoll) Ok, guys, he got further back from the jump. He just got a bit of a squeeze early and that didn't negotiate from there. I thought he ran better than his price suggested.

14th – FORGOT YOU (Daniel Moor) Yeah, I think when we look back at this race in Samy, I think the horses that got back in the race have found it difficult to make inroads, but still I would have liked to have seen him rattle off a bit better given the easier time he had in the first half.

15th – LAST OF THE LINE (Brad Parnham) The wide draw did us no favours and had to do too much work to get there. He never relaxed.

16th – KARLI'S KARMA (Michael Poy) Yeah, look that wasn't her at her best. Probably see how she pulls up and go from there.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything, it's too late to stop reading it.

Thanks Gay, I'll take that back on Tuvalu, I obviously mis-read the race, Jamie Kah's comments suggest he was not going to win it even if he got a run.

I must admit I didn't look for him over the final furlong after it appeared he wouldn't get a gap.
