This might lead to a not so graceful sudden exit from racing. All might come out yet.

Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into an alleged incident between trainer Glenn Thornton and jockey Stephen Baster.

Both Thornton and Baster fronted stewards after the alleged altercation following the final event at Flemington on Saturday to wind-up the four-day carnival. The stewards have adjourned the inquiry until a date to be fixed.

Baster also has that san Fransisco investigation against him. They couldn’t provide enough evidence against him due to a dubious alibi.

Not so squeaky clean.

Why would she come back? Queensland might be full of paedophiles, but didn’t ‘no reason’, ‘allegedly’ and ‘lack of evidence’ turn into President of the VJA?

I wonder who'll pick up his good 2yo Confused

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has thrown out the appeal of training partners Terry and Karina O’Sullivan against lengthy cobalt bans.

Karina O’Sullivan received a five-year disqualification and her father Terry got three years for allegedly administering or causing cobalt to be administered to two horses before races in 2015 and 2016.

The readings taken from Darragh in 2015 and 2016 and Gold A Plenty in 2016 were recorded as being over 1200 micrograms per litre of urine, more than six times the allowed threshold at the time.

The allowed cobalt threshold in horses has dropped to 100 micrograms per litre of urine.

VCAT denied the pair’s initial appeals in December last year before confirming that decision on Wednesday.

Terry O’Sullivan was disqualified for three years for each of the offences but VCAT ruled he could serve those penalties concurrently.

Karina O’Sullivan was also banned for three years on each charge but her penalties will be served on a partly concurrent basis.

She will be able to re-apply for her licence in April 2025 while Mr O’Sullivan will be out of racing until April 2023.

The pair must clear the horses out of their stable by April 16.

Interesting reading. Not dragged through mud by PRA, no trial by media and social media, horse records a career peak result, retired shortly after. What's it called again? Oh yes, level playing field.

Lignocaine is famous for being in the system of 2yo triple crown winner Tierce back in the early 90s.

His trainer Clarry Connors copped a $10,000 fine but the horse kept the races.

why no mention of stable vet reports? I seem to remember HDH declaring their stable vet reporting is the best. Why no mention? Could have been some local anaesthetic to suture a wound over a week pre race and the stuff remained in body for longer than normal. Or something g similar. Just saying.

Lignocaine gel or ointment I was using 40 years ago, once we were told it swabs, we stopped, or, went easy, trod carefully, some didn't, the mouthwash fiasco was just that, Hayes probably just a simple mistake, but the chain of command there is not what it was when CS was in his heyday.....I think we all know that.

Yet another serial offender Angry

Banks issued TCO2 charges

Trainer Paul Banks has been issued with five charges into a positive test for TCO2 (bi-carb) and for an anti-inflammatory.

On Wednesday, Racing Victoria stewards issued the five charges - two of which are in the alternative - following investigations into blood samples taken post and pre-race from horses Coastal Chic and Rex Bell.

The stewards' release read:

"Racing Victoria (RV) stewards today issued five charges, of which two are in the alternative, under the Australian Rules of Racing against licensed trainer Paul Banks after their investigations into the following samples provided by horses in Mr Banks' care:

1. The pre-race blood sample taken from Coastal Chic at Echuca Racecourse on 15 September 2018, where the mare finished ninth in the Bourke Builders 0-58 Handicap over 2800 metres;

2. The post-race blood sample taken from Rex Bell at Geelong Racecourse on 30 September 2019, where the gelding won the Shojun Concrete Benchmark 58 Handicap over 2255 metres; and

3. The pre-race blood taken from Rex Bell at the Geelong Racecourse on 23 October 2019, where the gelding finished third in the Avalon Airport Benchmark 70 Handicap over 2400 metres.

The charges will be heard before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.

The following charges all pertain to the Bourke Builders 0-58 Handicap over 2800 metres at Echuca Racecourse on 15 September 2018 (the race) in which Coastal Chic ran.

Charge One: AR 244 - Administration of prohibited substance to affect race performance.

The summary of the particulars being that prior to the race Mr Banks administered, or caused to be administered, to Coastal Chic a prohibited substance, being alkalinising agents as evidenced by total carbon dioxide (TCO2) at a concentration in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma, for the purpose of affecting the performance or behaviour of Coastal Chic in the race.

Charge Two: AR 245 - Administration of prohibited substance in sample taken from horse before/after running in race [Alternative to Charge One].

The summary of the particulars being that prior to the race Mr Banks administered, or caused to be administered, to Coastal Chic a prohibited substance, being alkalinising agents as evidenced by total carbon dioxide (TCO2) at a concentration in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma, which was detected in a blood sample taken from Coastal Chic prior to the running of the race.

Charge Three: AR 240 - Prohibited substance in sample taken from horse at race meeting [Alternative to Charges One and Two].

The summary of the particulars being that a prohibited substance, being alkalinising agents as evidenced by a total carbon dioxide (TCO2) concentration in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma, was detected in a blood sample taken from Coastal Chic prior to the running of the race.

The following charges pertain to horse Rex Bell:

Charge Four: AR 240 (2) - Prohibited substance in sample taken from a horse brought to a race meeting.

The summary of the particulars being that Rex Bell was brought to the Geelong Racecourse on 30 September 2019 and ran in the Shojun Concrete Benchmark 58 Handicap over 2255 metres (the race).

Most of Brads' rides seem to be in the extreme with very little in between. He's either brilliant or off with the fairies, imo Smile

Racing Victoria stewards have opened an inquiry into a Brad Rawiller ride at Geelong on Wednesday.

Rawiller got a long way back on the Richard Cully-trained Nirvana in the Connect Tel BM64 Handicap (2200m) before the gelding ran on well late to finish second to American In Paris.

Stewards questioned Rawiller, Cully and stable representative Lisa Whelan before adjourning the matter until a time to be fixed.

Nirvana started as an equal $4.60 second pick.

The $2.70 favourite Call My Agent led before fading to finish eighth.

UPDATED: Internal review finds reason for Maher & Eustace positive

An internal investigation has found the reason why trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have been charged with presenting a horse to race with a prohibited substance in its system.

Racing Victoria stewards have charged Maher and Eustace with presenting a horse to race with a prohibited substance in its system at Sale in February.

Piccatric returned a positive test to Furosemide after she won her maiden on February 20.

Furosemide is a normal treatment for racehorse but is not allowed in a horse’s system on raceday.

Maher released a statement confirming human error led to the positive swab.

“Subject to notification by the RV Stewards, Ciaron Maher Racing conducted an internal review which led to a clear finding that human error led to the treatment of Piccatric with Furosemide, instead of the intended horse Stardayz," it said.

“The review was provided to RV Stewards along with other evidence.

“We accept the RV Stewards’ charge and will assist at the Victorian Racing Tribunal hearing.

“While the incident is regrettable, we are pleased that the internal review has identified the exact cause and has led to implementation of improvements to strengthen our controls to prevent a recurrence.”

The Victorian Racing Tribunal will hear the matter on a date to be fixed.

Webb has served his disqualification
In order to get husband license back, he has to go back to square one and re apply for a license. He did that, but it was knocked back on grounds that he is not a fit person in the Ryan of the Stewards. He can now proceed to VCAT if he wishes to challenge the decison
