Malua's statue is outside the visitor information centre in Deloraine, about 30ks west of Launceston. There's a book on him by Geoff Woods, The Mighty Malua, The Story of Australia's Most Versatile Champion and the 3 Families that Owned Him (Reibey, Field and Inglis families)

Regarding some of the replies, please excuse me from sounding like djebel, but why can’t Aust trainers recognise stamina in a horse and develop it? The English/Irish can see the phenotype/genotype, why can’t we in Aust. Fastnet Rock getting a 3200m+ winner OS, opinions please.

The client base over there is the complete opposite, they obviously listen and are prepared to wait , money has skewed the mindset of a lot of trainers, influenced syndicate
buyers to purchase young horses that are eligible for " closed shop" sales races involving huge contingencies, race club committee's introducing huge new G1s with mammoth p/ money ( age restricted) , bling races that do nothing but massage certain ego's, when you have the states leading trainer remark about a switch in training plans because " breeders don't want to stand Derby winners", I wonder how that makes a new owner feel having just gone into partnership and given it to a trainer who may be influenced to go the same way, in all honesty the trainers of today are completely different to yesteryear , I've witnessed it fwiw..curiousity question for you Majestic, has A.O'Brien ever won a 2 mile race with a Fastnet Rock, being Coolmore and all , I can't recall. cheers.
