Umatilla did indeed sire Streak, Sydney Cup 3200, but I don’t think he had a 900m SW.

Danehill is one of the most versatile, winners like Presumed Innocent at the minimum distance to Westerner at 4000m, although I don’t think he sire at 3200 m winner in Aust/NZ

Actually, I was thinking of Westerner as a 3200m plus stakeswinner by Danehill but I believe Danestorm also fits the bill having won the Brisbane Cup over 3200m.

GA, spot on Time Frame Perth Cup 3200 and King Zavata Maribyrnong Trial 900m, the latter trainer by Stetson wearing King of the Kids Cliff Fahler, a brilliant year Rainer of especially early 2yo’s in the 70’s and 80’s

GA, again congrats for noting Danestorm, I though the Brisbane Cup was by then reduced to 2400m.

Spot on. Better Boy is my all time favourite stallion. Stood at Curram Downs in Vic. Sired all types but started off slow. When Craftsman started winning, people took notice, then the rocket took off.

I remember a trainer Majestic think his name was Bob Clarken ( or similar) bought 2 Better Boys from first crop , Bettermil and Bettertip, both showed promise from the outset ,always remember him riderless in the Caulfield Cup.

I have to agree. Better Boy was a wonderful stallion & one of the most versatile Australia has seen. Sprinters, milers, stayers ... he got the lot!

His daughter, Cap d'Antibes was a favourite of mine when first started going to the races.

Danestorm won the Brisbane Cup at 3200m, Group one in 2004. it was not reduced in distance or status until Newport won the 2400m Gr 2 Cup in 2007.

If we are adding in racehorses spare a place for Malua - he won the Oakleigh Plate / Newmarket double, later that year adding a Melbourne Cup win followed 2 days later by a 6f (1200m) WFA stakes win on Oaks Day. He later went on to win a Grand National Hurdle, before retiring to stud and siring a Melbourne Cup winner himself in Malvolio. What an incredible horse he must have been.

Malua was bred in Tasmania and started his race career there under another name initially, before being sold to the mainland and having the name change.
