So , " he knows she's much better off over 2000M " Confused actually , allowing for a couple of days off recuperating from the flight , she's been in full work for 7 weeks , Waller always gave her 1 or 2 trials to " fit" her first up and she performed accordingly , it gave her a good Base as her racing was stepped up over further , but djebel is of the opinion that she races better first over 2000M but somehow can't realise that's what Waller was doing All the time , building fitness , to perform best over the journeys that suits her best , this trainer imo has realised she's nowhere near fit enough at present and needs more time .

Isn't the race that  the owners want to run in , the Arc , so I suppose he may know a  thing or to , to get Elle to this race in premium condition , that's his job , I'd say .

If VE was in Australia this spring it would not surprise me at all if she didn't win a race. So it won't surprise me if she doesn't win a race in France. I hope she goes undefeated.  That would surprise me.Tongue

Seems like a weird choice ,  he seems a bit of a  up tight tense dude , wouldn't she appreciate a more laid back  relaxed rider , reckon she might pull her head off , anyway over to the experts.

He couldn't get out of a pocket in a 2 mile race on an educated , straight forward horse in Stradivarius , anyhow , this is their patch , let's hope it ends well , then the Arc.

The jocks give each other a lot more room over there. A drunk driver could get clear. Is getting held up in a pocket even a thing in Europe?

While star mare Verry Elleegant ramps up preparations for her overseas debut in France, her younger brother made an underwhelming debut in Perth on Wednesday finishing out of the placings as the $4.60 second favourite.

The brother of last year's Melbourne Cup winner, Affluential, trained by Group 1-winning horseman Adam Durrant finished last of a 10-horse field in the second race at Belmont, a 1700-metre maiden.

Raced by leviathan Western Australian-based owner Bob Peters in his famous cerise and white silks, the four-year-old son of Zed out of Opulence settled midfield and was ridden along by Clint Johnson-Porter before the turn. He failed to make any impact down the straight, finishing 9.2 lengths behind winner Candlelight Supper.

Formerly trained by now disbanded partnership Grant and Alana Williams, Affluential was a $140,000 yearling purchased at the 2020 Karaka yearling sale in New Zealand and had been given two official trials leading up to his debut run.

Pity the journo didn't do his homework otherwise he'd have discovered the Grant and Alana Williams team was back in business. team .

Graffard lauds 'better' Elleegant

France’s leading trainer Francis Graffard has given Verry Elleegant a glowing endorsement ahead of her first outing for his stable at Deauville on Sunday.

In a voice message to Verry Elleegant’s owners, Graffard said “the lights are green” for Sunday’s G1 Prix Jean Romanet (2000m) after the Melbourne Cup winner again impressed in her work after missing an earlier planned run when Graffard adjudged she was not ready to race.

“I am delighted we waited because it is not the same filly that I had like, three weeks ago,’ Graffard said in his message. “She is so much better. She looks better in her coat, she’s happy, she eats better and she moves better.

“So, all the lights are green for Sunday.”

Graffard said Verry Elleegant’s work at Chantilly on Tuesday was impressive.

“Verry Elleegant had a nice, easy piece of work this morning on the grass,” he said. “She was very well, very happy, moved really well and recovered from the gallop very quickly.”

The 11-time group 1 winner may not even meet another group 1 winning mare in Sunday’s race, where a trailblazing victory for Verry Elleegant would keep her on the path to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on October 1.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Her older full brother (Verry Flash) is about to make his hurdle debut in R2 at Waverley.

Pretty well performed on the flat, I dont want to back him at the price but if he can jump & stay 3000m will be hard to beat.

Whats the fall out going to be?

Any niggling issues like injured during running etc? If not then.....she wasn't good enough on this occasion.

Will they press on still? Let's see what happens.

I hate to see her run like that , but it could not happen to a more deserving group of owners. I bet the original owner who is out now was very upset at watching that race.

She was obviously not ready for 2000m.

She is past her best and the owners send her from the reserve grade to the firsts.

No way she gets to an Arc off that but she does improve with a run and if the trainer knows what is doing and what he has to work with, she can improve next start but she is just a chance in the mares grade over in Europe.

She should have been there two seasons ago, but alas, we have what we have.
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise
