It was strange, I read the story before there were many comments at all. But someone jumped on and said it should never have happened, it was mismanagement of the horse. Don’t know who it was, but had that insider knowledge ring to it.
Hopefully it was just sour grapes or something. The jockey certainly seems to have strong feelings for him.
It’s reminds me a bit of a very good country race mare who was with a prominent old school local trainer. The mare got colic, trainer wouldn’t call a vet, persisted with old fashioned treatments and at the last minute, at the urging of staff and even syndicate  owners, he did so. Way too little too late. She passed away after much pain and suffering.
Jeez it wasn’t even his money he would have been spending at the vet. Just stuck in his ways Disapprove
Wouldn’t have a clue what happened with this horse, it just reminded me of the story.

'Devastating': Oakleigh Plate winner dies of colic

Oakleigh Plate-winning sprinter Queman has died after a battle with colic.

Trainer Shane Oxlade confirmed the news to Racenet on Tuesday morning.

"They put him down this morning," Oxlade, who trains in partnership with daughter, Cassie, said.

"Unfortunately, we lost the battle.

"It would have been great to get him home, where he could just wander around the paddock for the rest of his life, but it was never going to happen unfortunately.

"Some of them do horrendous things to themselves and they survive, and then the simplest things bring them undone.

"It's sad – it's devastating – it's all of those things, and we are on the end of it this time."

Oxlade transported the son of Mint Lane to Morphettville's Equine Clinic when he began exhibiting symptoms of colic over a week ago.

The Group 1-winning sprinter won the 2024 Oakleigh Plate, the Oxlade pair's first Group 1 triumph.

Owned and bred by Francis "Boof" Smith and family, the seven-year-old gelding won over $1m in prizemoney for connections with 10 race wins, three at stakes level, under Shane and Cassie Oxlade.

Queman's last victory was a gutsy first-up win in the 2025 Group 3 Behemoth Stakes following a 69-week break.

I have no doubt the horse was given the best care, every day AND when he became ill. Randwick Equine are among the best in the business and I don’t believe for one minute that connections would’ve let him suffer.

Colic remains the no. 1 killer of horses. You can give them the best care and it can still strike, anytime. A horse can be fine in the morning, gone by noon. And surgery can’t always save them. Anyone who knows horses knows that colic is the C word.

RIP Spud. Condolences to his people Broken Heart

Actually colic is the no. 1 killer of stabled horses and horses kept in bare paddocks. Or hungry horses that get to gorge on grain o4 hard feeds.
I wouldn’t have a clue what happened in the above case and said so.
I sincerely hope your comments weren’t aimed at me.

My post is aimed at anyone who spreads rumours without proof.

Colic is also the no.1 natural killer of older horses (most don’t just ‘die in their sleep overnight’) and broodmares (just ask FF) and ALL horses regardless of how well they are or aren’t looked after. It’s how they are designed. Ask any equine vet.

No BP when the RSPCA took my cousins dogs (well looked after dogs who I'd seen less than a month before playing and giving her kisses and cuddles) the warriors were out in force praising them for shutting down a breeder who of course miss treated and abused her animals.  Neither was true but between them and the RSPCA it nearly killed my cousin.  Those animals had two vets looking after them.  She never overbreed or keep the females breeding too long or too young.  She desexed and found homes for former breeding females.  And kept a few too many older dogs because she loved them and couldn't sell them.  But people want to see the worst in people.  It's not fair.  We all make mistakes and suffer for them.  But most of us try to be the best we can and should be kinder to those around us.  At least find out the truth before jumping on the band wagon.

Sam Clipperton loved Think About It enough to look after him in his retirement. Well done to the ownership group.

I’m sure he had the best care possible.

The photos and videos of Sam leading TAI off the truck the day he arrived at their home gave me goosebumps and sweaty eyes. Sam looked like he'd just got his first pony on Christmas Day. They will be heartbroken now.

Serena's Song, the 3-year-old filly champion in 1995 and the winner of 11 GI stakes races, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Denali Stud, where she had been spending her retirement years. She was 34.

“Maggie”, a yearling colt we sold a week or so ago went to his new home, had a paddock accident and broke a shoulder.
