Like many here I grew up with the great magazines of Turf Monthly and Racetrack. I always thought that the loss of these left a void. Hopefully the newly launched Turf Monthly which was released this week will help fill that gap. My aim is to tell stories about the great champions of the past, both equine and our jockeys, trainers and administrators. We always have to remember that we are where we are because of what has gone before, and not one horse racing today does not owe their existence to some of the these great champions.
The magazine is a digital publication because it means that we can embed video footage of some of the great races which can sometimes be hard to find. Links to where you can find the new Turf Monthly is on our website, www.turfmonthly.com.au. I hope you enjoy it and I hope it helps to introduce a new generation of thoroughbred enthusiasts to the industry's rich heritage.

Wonderful news progold, everything old is new again I wrote a small monthly article for Turf Monthly ( 1959 yearling sale ) 10 pound a month for Des Hoysted who was doing journalistic work as well as call at the races, Arnold Rogers was the boss, TM picked a yearling out at the sales ( Judicate X Cuvée colt) and it went to our stables so the boss somehow gave it to me to look after, had to tell how he broke in, progressed in training blah blah, raced as Top Vintage , won a race but little ability, my wages were 1pound 9 shillings p/w, that 10 quid sure came in handy. cheers.

Sorry guys - this will turn out a big fat nothing burger. Specialist magazines went out with straw hats. So will this one

Dont be silly 1x1. Just look in the newsagents at all the specialist mags. And now younger people like most of their stuff to be on line , this should be right up their alley.

Oops AA - you are spot on. I didn't see the "Digital" bit. May well do alright - although still not sure about the young ones really getting wrapped up in racing like many of us did when young. Hope I'm wrong.

Is Bluebloods still going in magazine form?
Read that religiously for decades before cancelling my subscription due to what I viewed as too much advertising in the guise of genuine content.

It is still going, Apparently it is now a bimonthly magazine.
I stopped years ago and I do regret it. The stories all seemed the same. If you had read a columnist once you read them a 100 times. I regret it because despite what some people say we have had some great horses globally that would have been worth reading about in the I'd say 15+ years since I stopped subscribing. Thanks for the encouragement. I am still working out what the best balance is between old and new so I do appreciate feedback. The first two editions will include pieces on the new stallions standing in Australia this year. Obviously I have an interest in pedigrees, so I am looking at strengths and weaknesses that breeders might like to consider rather than just advertorials. I am very aware that a lot of magazines have gone by the wayside because it became very hard to distinguish ads from content. There will always be lots of newcomers to the industry keen for more information, so if Turf Monthly ends up becoming a historical resource, then at least I will have achieved something.

I find the new format of Bluebloods not as good as the old one. I think Furious might have had a finger in the pie in one of them ? I still like to read it, if I can bludge a copy , but I dont buy them any more.

I'm pretty sure Kristen Manning runs &/or is editor of Bluebloods, doubtless with several other contributors

I think Bluebloods is put out by Rural Press at North Richmond, and Andrew Reichard has something to do with it ?

Djebel, if you buy a Stallions book you can usually get Bluebloods with it. With makes me more sure its Rural Press/The Land people. Furious will know.
