Okay the Punters Club sits at -$915.00 coming into Champagne Stakes day.

Champagne Stakes

1. Letsrollthedice - 85. Good effort two weeks ago and the 1600m looks ideal. A small field suits as he can be closer to the action during the race. The danger to the two fillies.
2. Williamsburg - 77. Going well winning at the lower level but needs sharp improvement to win here. Top four hope.
3. Counttheheadlights - 80. Good effort last start which was his first for five weeks and first run on a heavy. He just got to far back there and out to 1600m he could improve enough to finish 3rd or 4th at best.
4. Wealthy Investor - 65. If the stable think highly of him he should have been aimed at the Hawkesbury or Scone meetings and then Brisbane. Outclassed here.
5. Fireburn - 100. Should be too good here, as history beckons!
6. She's Extreme - 95. Very very good filly herself but no match with the fav.

Ratings

1. No.5 Fireburn - 100
2. No.6 She's Extreme - 95
3. No.1 Letsrollthedice - 85
4. No.3 Counttheheadlights - 80
5. No.2 Williamsburg - 77
6. No.4 Wealthy Investor - 65
Recommended Bet: $50 place No.1 Letsrollthedice
Precedent: No.6 She's Extreme

Summary: Not much to say here. Fireburn is a very good filly and she looks set for history. She's Extreme and Letsrollthedice are quite capable of giving her a run for her money while No.3 Countthedheadlights is the improver.

Punters Club Investments

$400 win @ $1.60 No.5 Fireburn
$100 place @ $3.70 No.1 Letsrollthedice

All Aged Stakes

1. Mo'Unga - 100. No chinks here. He loves it wet, he likes the 1400m and he should get a lovely run from the gate with speed engaged. I love him fresh into this and he will go close. Place certainty!
2. Cascadian - 84. Doing his usual thing but back from 2000m to 1600m to 1600m and now 1400m without a freshen is not ideal for me, and I think a real heavy sees him just below his best. Can run fifth but not a winning hope for mine.
3. Kolding - 72. Ran well two back but back to his usual wet track efforts last start in the Ryder. I think they will surge forward from the gate and make it a real test but unless it is a real on speed bias, not for me.
4. Zoutori - 77. Not a bad effort in the T.J, but on his previous runs this way of going I can leave him alone.
5. Ellsberg - 82. Good effort in the Doncaster, but he did have every hope on speed. Back to the 1400m suits and his trainer does know how to win this race. Top four hope.
6. Laws Of Indices - 79. Again not totally hopeless last start, but the heavy just does not suit. He can run without me.
7. Forbidden Love - 87. In career best form and ran a cracker in the Doncaster at the tough mile. She will be the real target here as fav and from a wide gate but she is racing so well she has to be considered a hope.
8. Olmedo - 73. I know the stable think he has ability, but I have not seen it and so I have to let him run without me.
9. Tofane - 84. Looking to bow out a winner and back to the 1400m she can win her second All Aged. Will need luck from the gate but she can run well.
10. Sierra Sue - 85. I thought she was a little unlucky last start caught between traffic. Again back to 1400m is ideal and I can see her getting a smother and then launching late. Winning hope.
11. Nimalee - 88. I think she is coming here at the right time. She has only had three starts this prep and I like her off a freshen and then backing up within the week. There is good speed drawn wide and she will look to come across and sit two and three wide with cover. Great value!
12. Shout The Bar - 72. Not for me on the heavy!
13. Hungry Heart - 72. Seriously! I hope Waller is paying these nomination fees!
14. In The Congo - 82. Not sure about the 3yo's against the older horses here, but he can roll forward and give a kick. He is a bit short for mine but if he got to $7 or $8, I could step in.
15. Overpass - 81. Has had a few things against at his last couple, but still run well. I like him out to 1400m (his only run was a good 4th in the BTC Sires last year), and while the heavy is not ideal, he can finish top four.
16. Shelby Sixtysix - 75. Of course the heavy brings him into it but I had a doubt about him at 1200m and so I have to take him on at 1400m.
17. Mr Mozart - 77. Going very well in lower grades but seriously if this guy places it will be a great training effort.

Ratings

1. No.1 Mo'unga - 100
2. No.11 Nimalee - 88
3. No.7 Forbidden Love - 87
4. No.10 Sierra Sue - 85
5. No.9 Tofane - 84
6. No.2 Cascadian - 84
Add ins for any scratchings are No.14 & No.5.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.1 Mo'unga
                             $10 win No.11 Nimalee
                             $10 place No.10 Sierra Sue
Precedent: No.15 Overpass

Summary: This is a great way to finish off the group 1 racing for Sydney this season. No.1 Mo'unga sets up well here. He does his best work fresh, loves the 1400m and loves Randwick. No problems the heavy and should get a nice run off a good speed. As long as there is no on speed bias, he will go close. I think the mares No.7 Forbidden Love (in career best form), No.9 Tofane (back to 1400m suits and she has won this race before), No.10 Sierra Sue (again back from the 1600m suits and forget the heavy track run as she was in awful form at the time) and also No.11 Nimalee (well deserved win at the top level last start and she is not disadvantaged coming back to the 1400m and backing up within 7 days off a fresh run. Not sure the 3yo's are quite good enough to win at WFA here but both No.14 In The Congo and No.15 Overpass are not without place hopes. All in all a interesting race!

Punters Club Investments

$150 win @ $6.50   No.1 Mo'unga
$100 win @ $6.00   No.7 Forbidden Love
$  70 win @ $20.00 No.10 Sierra Sue
$  70 win @ $23.00 No.11 Nimalee
$  40 win + $70 place @ $23.00 + $5.00 No.15 Overpass

New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.

1. Coventina Bay - 100. In great form and has looked good winning last two. Mixes distances well so no knock back to 1600m here and she is the one to beat.
2. Two Illicit - 88. Very good race mare, but she looks to me to be still maturing. Has raced well at a lower level and then found Coventina Bay and The Chosen One a little to good at the mile two runs back.
3. Zola Express - 77. Deserves her chance at this level, but she meets two mares in good form here. Top four hope.
4. Mai Tai - 79. Again she is on the rise, but she meets the top two here at their best. Talented enough to place here.
5. Dragon Queen - 75. Racing consistently but at a lower level. Not until she shows me something.
6. Isla Jay - 70. Not quite up to this level.
7. Imperatiz - 82. She is a talented 3yo filly but not quite sure she has the form to trouble the top two mares. I will let her run without me.
8. One Dream One Soul - 70. Worth a shot at the stumps, but not sure this one will hit the bails.

Ratings

1. No.1 Coventina Bay - 100
2. No.2 Two Illicit - 88
3. No.7 Imperatiz - 82
4. No.4 Mai Tai - 79
5. No.3 Zola Express - 77
6. No.5 Dragon Queen - 75
Add ins for any scratchings are No.6 & No.8
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.1 Coventina Bay
Precedent: No.2 Two Illicit

Summary: Looks a race in two, although I really like No.1 Coventina Bay. No.2 Two Illicit is going well enough to challenge and the 3uyo filly No.7 Imperatiz is looking the logical next best.

Punters Club Investments

$300 win @ $2.80 No.1 Coventina Bay
$200 win @ $6.50 No.2 Two Illicit

Good luck to all investors!

Okay after a disastrous All Aged Stakes day the Punters Club is -$2415.00.

Australasian Oaks

1. El Patroness - Scratched.
2. Barb Raider - 84. Forget her last start on that heavy. Her 3yo fillies stakes form is right up with anything here. My only concern is the 2000m but if she can find a forward spot from the barrier, she will be in the finish.
3. Daisies - 82. Odds on against the boys last start, but she ran well behind a smart 3yo. Again the draw is a concern but if she can find a cover spot from out there she is right in this.
4. Bon's A Pearler - 78. Has the talent to win, but while she ran well last start at 1800m she meets a stronger line up here and 2000m is still a huge concern for me. Will get a lovely run where she does no work early, so if she is ever going to run well at the distance this is it.
5. Douceur - 80. Form this prep is up and down, but I am suspecting she has just been racing to set her up for this race. Again the gate is a shocker, but she gets back anyway and if she gets a clear run in the straight, and is not to far off them (she needs to be making her run before the turn), she can win.
6. My Whisper - 83. Has looked sensational this prep at the lesser distances. Is facing a really strong field here so she will need to have improved off her last start win but she has to be a main contender.
7. Mac N Cheese - 78. Good run last start and her two wins previous to that were great, but she steps up in grade further and not sure she is up to these. She will be giving a huge start from the gate again and that might see her run on for a top four spot but not a winning hope for mine.
8. Mamounia - 79. Looked sensational last start out to 2400m. Run in Sydney before that was excellent and although back in distance she has to be considered.
9. Fortunate Kiss - 81. She could be the overs here. She has been around the better fillies without winning this prep but she has not been beaten more than 1.5 lengths. Only guessing about the 2000m but she looks suited, and from that gate she will get every hope from Harry Coffey. Definite hope!
10. Glint Of Hope - 77. She has been found a little wanting against this class, but her Ethereal run from the spring fits in well. Not totally hopeless.
11. Lady Chant - 75. Not sure the classic form from Perth is real strong this season, but she won the Oaks and ran 5th in the Derby recently. She gets back and will need luck but despite dropping in distance she can run well.
12. Ancient Girl - 73. Maybe out to the 2000m will suit and she defeated a smart 3yo here three back, but she has been found wanting when she has met the better fillies and I will leave her out of my betting plan here. She does look our leader!
13. Pretty Amazing - 79. Her form was good before her last run where I think the jockey must have thought it was a two lap race as she got a long way off the speed and started her run late. She has gained the visitors draw, but she is on the up and she can be in the finish if she can get the right run.
14. So You See - 80. Like her. To me she looked like she needed the 2000m in the Kewney nut the stable have kept her at 1600m twice and she has run well, but she can improve here out to the 2000m. I like the male who beat her last start and they gapped the rest of the field so I have to have her as a bet here.
15. Stray - 73. Was running in Sydney but she was outclassed and this field is not far off that formline. Not here.
16. Morrissette - 74. Smart filly but again I think she is outclassed here.
17. Bundle Of Truth - 79. Good effort to win the Tasmanian Oaks. Not sure the drop back to 2000m is ideal, but the fact she defeated Honeycreeper is good enough to give her a chance here.
18. Roots - 75. Her form has been hampered by the heavy tracks which she hates. Drawn well and if she can gain a start she can run a race, but for me not win.
19. The Map - 69. Comes through a lower level, and has not been winning so she will need to improve too much to win here.
20. Blackcomb - 72. Okay run against the males last start but she has been found wanting against this class all season and I will leave her alone in this, if she gets the run.

Ratings

1. No.2 Barb Raider - 84
2. No.6 My Whisper - 83
3. No.3 Daisies - 82
4. No.9 Fortunate Kiss - 81
5. No.5 Douceur - 80
6. No.14 So You See - 80
Add ins for any scratchings are No.13 & No.8
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.2 Barb Raider
                              $10 win No.3 Daisies
$10 each way No.14 So You See
Precedent: No.3 Daisies

Summary: This is a great field and a very strong race, one of the best editions of this race! Some of the class fillies such as No.2 Barb Raider, No.4 Bon's A Pearler and No.9 Fortunate Kiss are all 2000m doubts, but their class will take them along way. Other fillies such as No.8 Mamounia, No.11 Lady Chant and No.17 Bundle Of Fun, are all coming back from 2400m and might find that a concern. For me No.2 Barb Raider is all class and back on a drier track she can run well. No.3 Daisies was very good behind a smart 3yo last start at odds on and she can bounce back here. No.6 My Whisper was sensational last start but this field is two grades better. No.13 Pretty Amazing and No.18 Roots will enjoy getting on to drier tracks away from Sydney, and Douceur has been up and down form wise this prep, but I can guarantee you she has been aimed at one race and she will improve here to be a genuine winning chance. For me No.14 So You See will be the one at double figures who will give you a sight. If you like one here then back it, as this is a good betting race!

Punters Club Investments

Alright we are down $2915.00 after Daniel Moor showed us some intelligent riding and nabbed Barb Raider on the line.

Robert Sangster Stakes

1. September Run - 85. Ticked the winner around a bend box last start when she sat a little closer and finished to strong for a field which was not to much stronger than here. If she can sit closer in the run again, she can win this!
2. Bella Nipotina - 85. Ever since she has joined the Maher Eustace team she has looked a group 1 winner in waiting. She won a strong mares race last start where the two place getters would be right in this race. Her group 1 form this season includes a good run behind Nature Strip and a good run in the Galaxy where she was harshly weighted for a non group 1 winner. She can use the gate to sit in the first five and if she can do that she would be the one to beat.
3. Instant Celebrity - 86. Loved her fresh run, and like her staying at 1200m second up. Likes the track, drawn a good gate because she can sit wide with cover and get on the back of one to take her into the race. She meets a good quality field here so she needs a career best but she can go close.
4. Bella Vella - 88. That was a huge run fresh and she will get a lovely run from the gate. If she has not taken a backwards step from the fresh run, she has to be a contender to record a second win in this race.
5. Brooklyn Hustle - 78. Has the talent but will get back, and I am not convinced she will be able to run past all her rivals. If there is a huge bias wide off the fence, which is not unheard of, she can win, but not for me.
6. Away Game - 80. Just a few lengths off Bella Nipotina for mine. Great effort in the Oakleigh Plate, but that was with 52kgs and she is at WFA here. Place hope at best!
7. Snapdancer - 79. She was in sensational form before her un in the Newmarket where she was on the wrong side of the straight and just a little outclassed. This might be a bit rich right now, but no surprise if she runs top four.
8. All Banter - 76. Going very well, but this is a few levels rise in grade. Not here.
9. Chaillot - 80. Interesting runner. Looked a little one paced late fresh, and I am guessing that is why she has been freshened and kept to 1200m. She has the talent to win here, but she will be giving a huge start and she will need a huge amount of luck. There is a precedent for a 1400m/1600m mare winning this so she could be overs.
10. So You Assume - 78. Looks one of our leaders and I think she will give a sight but just not sure she goes her best fresh. She will be in my exotics.
11. Another Award - 75. She is a handy mare, but is outclassed here.
12. Gaze Gris - 76. Going well but again she is meeting a really talented group of mares here so she needs a career best.
13. Argentia - 81. Back from 1600m and up to the all aged group and she will be in back half of the field and need luck. If she gets the clear run late she can win.
14. Heresy - 83. Group 1 form all through her autumn prep. 1200m looks ideal and drawn to do no work early and sit close enough to win.
15. Gimme Par - 79. Just not sure she has come back as good as the spring. Drawn poorly, her straight form is her best and her best runs have been when she has sat on or near the speed and if she does that here she will need to use to much petrol early. Not for me.
16. Champagne Dreams - 84. Great win last start when she dominated a good quality 3yo field. Drawn lovely do get a sensational run during the race. She does need to keep improving. but she should get every hope to win. Definite hope!

Ratings

1. No.4 Bella Vella - 88
2. No.3 Instant Celebrity - 86
3. No.1 September Run - 85
4. No.2 Bella Nipotina - 85
5. No.16 Champagne Dreams - 84
6. No.14 Heresy - 84
Add ins for any scratchings are No.13 & No.9
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.2 Bella Nipotina
$10 each way No.16 Champagne Dreams
                              $10 win No.1 September Run
Precedent: No.14 Heresy

Summary: This is one of the best editions of this race I have seen. From the top. No.1 September Run is back to somewhere near her best and is a genuine hope here, No.2 Bella Nipotina has had no luck at group 1 level this season but this looks an ideal race for her. Both No.3 Instant Celebrity and No.4 Bella vella were sensational in a small field last start. Of the fillies only Gimme Par would surprise if she won. No.16 Champagne Dreams was sensational dominating a good quality 3yo field last start and she gets a lovely run here and every hope, not sure how she is $21.00 but that is a good price as she will finish close to the winner at least. No.14 Heresy was good back to the 1100m there but she will be better at the 1200m while No.13 Argentia is good enough however where she sits in the race is vital, she can not give a huge start. No.9 Chaillot is a very interesting runner and there is a precedent for a 1400m/1600m galloper winning here. No.6 Away Game, No.7 Snapdancer and No.8 All Banter are all in great form but they will need new career bests to win in this field. No surprise if No.10 So You Assume the outsider goes forward and makes it a true 1200m test and gives a sight. As has been the case with a few races recently, if you like a horse here then back your own judgement.

Punters Club Investments

$120 win @ $5.50 No.1 September Run
$130 win @ $7.00 No.2 Bella Nipotina
$50 win + $100 place @$31.00 + $5.00 No.16 Champagne Dreams
$30 win + $70 place @ $16.00 + $4.00 No.14 Heresy

Now onto the Group 1's and before we get to the two races we see the Punters Club at -$3415.00.

Doomben 10,000

1. Kementari - 86. Great win fresh and that form has been franked as the runner up has since won. I would have prefered him at Doomben, but he can still run well.
2. Vega One - 82. A little stiff in this race last year, where he was 3rd up. Comes into this second up. He did win at WFA second up after that. He is off a nearly year break into this prep so I am still thinking he needs this run, but his second up record is too good to ignore. At least a top four hope.
3. Count De Rupee - 85. Has needed his runs so far. Comes here right at peak. Has only missed a place at 1200m 3 times and two of those were at the beginning of this prep where he needed the two runs. Has drawn to get a lovely run and while he can run well on heavy the drier the better for him. Definite winning chance.
4. Zoustyle - 76. All his stats are good, although his better form is away from Eagle Farm. He is a sensational listed group 3 sprinter but he takes on a quality line up here. Drawn to do some work early and for me he might be able to kick for a top four place, but not win.
5. Rothfire - 82. I am stunned that he is at $15.00. I am not saying he is a good thing, and I understand that his second up record is not great, but I thought he was good enough fresh off a serious injury spell. He would have taken a huge amount of benefit from that run and I can see him getting a better run here. His second up record is up against the best around and so I am seeing him being able to at least place here.
6. Shelby Sixtysix - 74. His last two runs have been underwhelming and his WFA form is not quite as good as his handicap form. Also he is not a winning hope unless we get to heavy.
7. Signore Fox - 76. Needs the track as dry as it can get. Also his two runs this time in have been below the standard needed here.
8. Baller - 76. Like Zoustyle he is a quality listed group 3 sprinter, but he steps up to a better grade here. He should get a lovely run from the gate and he can finish top four.
9. Mazu - 82. Has been racing past his fellow 3yo's in Sydney. Now you have to decide, is he just a superior heavy track performer, or is he the real deal. I am still on the fence so the $2.75 for me is extremely short, but he can win.
10. Paulele - 82. I think he can sit close to the speed after doing no work. He needs to make up 3 lengths on Mazu from the Arrowfield, but I am certain a drier track than a heavy 10 will give him his chance. I can back him at the $11.00.
11. Generation - 79. His last run was very good, but he does like Moonee Valley. This is his first race outside Melbourne, and soft track form is okay without being outstanding. Won a trial at Rosehill on the heavy, but his form is still a level below the other 3yo's mentioned. He might do a lot of work from the gate as well.
12. Alpine Edge - 76. Needs it as dry as possible. Not sure he should be @ $71.00 but top four hope at best.
13. Entriviere - 84. The wide gate means she will probably have to sit in the back half of the field and that could be a disadvantage in this race. Her form is right up with the best form here, but she needs to overcome the gate. I think on form she is right in this, but that barrier is a huge obstacle. Winning hope.
14. Isotope - 79. Another who just does not want a heavy track. Similar to the mare above, she has drawn to be forced to drop in the back half of the field. I will just watch her here.
15. Minhaaj - 75. Would love to own her, but her runs this prep have been terrible. She has drawn to sit right behind the speed and get every hope. Drier track the better for her as well. Top four at best for me.

Ratings

1. No.1 Kementari - 86
2. No.3 Count De Rupee - 85
3. No.13 Entriviere - 84
4. No.5 Rothfire - 82
5. No.9 Mazu - 82
6. No.10 Paulele - 82
Add ins for any scratchings are No.2 & No.11
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.3 Count De Rupee
                              $20 win No.13 Entriviere
Precedent: No.10 Paulele

Summary: Good strong field here. On pure form I think No.13 Entriviere is the one to beat however that barrier is a shocker as she will probably need to drop out to the back half of the field. No.3 count De Rupee and No.1 Kementari are well placed here and they will go close. I thought No.5 Rothfire was good enough fresh. his second up record is not great but he should have taken a huge benefit from that race and he can win here. I think the 3yo's all have a hope, but for me No.10 Paulele is the pick especially if the track is not heavy.

Punters Club Investment

$130 win @ $11.00 No.3 Count De Rupee
$120 win @ $12.00 No.13 Entriviere
$100 win @ $12.00 No.10 Paulele
$100 win @ $10.00 No.1 Kementari
$100 win No.9 Mazu + No.3 Count De Rupee Top 4

S,A,Derby

1. Alegron - 90. He is the class of the field and that always takes you along way here. Clearly the one to beat!
2. Teewaters. Scratched
3. Jungle Magnate - 85. My only concern with him is the distance, but he was poorly ridden given no hope in the VRC Derby so I have to take him at face value on his form and he is in terrific form this prep. Won convincingly last start and if he gets a smooth run from the widish gate he can go close.
4. Commander Harry - 80. He is coming through the non black type races, but he can get a softer run than he did at Flemington in the spring. Jockey is in career best form and he will have no trouble with the 2500m. Not hopeless!
5. Harleymoven - 83. Going very well, but he was beaten when he stepped up in grade last start and he moves up another level here again. I can see him getting every hope but maybe a place at best.
6. Detonator Jack - 81. He is the up and comer who is hitting the race at the right time. Good strong win last start and as his distances have risen, he has looked better so the 2500m should ne problems. Will need a John Allen special but he is going for his 5th win in this race in the last 7 years.
7. The Nephew - 82. Looking to try and do what last years winner did and do the Tasmanian and S.A derby double. Though he was good two back when behind Detonator Jack and then ran well behind an in form older stayer who franked the form by winning the Warnambool Cup since. Drawn a little awkwardly for him as he does usually get back, but if gets the breaks in the straight he can place.
8. Son Of Emperor - 75. Needs a huge improvement from his last start and he can run without my money.
9. Saint Tropez - 77. He ran well last start but he steps up again in grade, he has drawn awfully and he still needs to make 3.5 lengths up. Unless he is a dead set 2500m superstar he can not win.
10. Water Into Wine - 72. Not setting the world on fire and while he will get a soft run not for me.
11. Yaphet - 80. I thought his run last week was very good behind a smart 3yo and from a horse who is looking for the 2500m. beat a handy filly start before and three back he ran well behind Detonator Jack. With Teewaters and the remaining emergencies out he comes into a nice gate and while he might get back beyond midfield he should be running home strong. Can win but for me more a place bet.
12. King Of Pharoahs - 70. Not racing well enough for me and has been found wanting at this level all season, so he will need a career best performance to win.
13. Claidheamh Mor - 79. I thought his last start win was awesome. He's drawn wide and I can only see him going forward which will zap his petrol early. Top five hope.
14. Sebastian The Fox - 72. I have seen nothing in his 12 starts to show me he will be winning this.
15. Phere The Ex - 79. Not sure why, but I can see him being one of those $51.00 horses whacking away for a top four spot. Was placed in the Geelong Classic so he can pull a race out every now and then and he could be the overs.
16. Lady Chant - 74. Her run in the hometown derby tells me she is not a high grade filly from Perth so I will leave her out of my betting.
17. Texas Tea - 74. Former NZ horse who was beaten too far last start.
18. Turfie - 70. Not here.
19. Bring The Stars - 68. Will not be running here.
20. Six Foot Song - 65. Will not be running here.

Ratings

1. No.1 Alegron - 90
2. No.3 Jungle Magnate - 85
3. No.5 Harleymoven - 83
4. No.7 The Nephew - 82
5. No.6 Detonator Jack - 81
6. No.11 Yaphet - 80
Add ins for any scratchings are No.4 & No.15
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.1 Alegron
$5 each way No.4 Commander Harry
                              %5 each way No.11 Yaphet
Precedent: No.3 Jungle Magnate

Summary: Personally I think No.1 Alegron is a good bet here. He is the class and the 2500m will be no problem. Of those who are dangers No.3 Jungle Magnate won well last start, but there is still a concern about him at 2500m, No.4 Commander Harry should get a better run in this than he did at Flemington in the spring, No.5 Harleymoven is in good form but he steps up another level in grade here, No.6 Detonator Jack has shown good ability and he could be the new kid on the scene while No.7 The Nephew won the Tasmanian Derby and was good behind Detonator Jack and will be suited at the 2500m. Of the rest I think No.11 Yaphet has shown good staying ability and comes here off a good run behind a smart 3yo while No.15 Phere The Ex would not surprise if he placed here. Once again there are many hopes if you do not think Alegron is a good bet so back the one you really like, despite the price.

We are down -$3985.00 coming into the two group 1's this week and please can we at least get a winner. Paulele and Yaphet would have been very handy at this period to shrink that deficit but c'est la vie, so lets see where we sit for two intriguing group 1's, including my favorite group 1 from South Australia.

Goodwood Handicap.

1. Behemoth - 86. Usually up around the 90 rating for these races, but it has been a while since we saw his best. Just got too far back last start, but has drawn well to sit closer here. Anywhere near his best and he wins. Just a word of caution. His 1200m wins and good runs have been in WFA fields of eight or less. In a full field of 20 he will need luck getting a clear run.
2. Savatoxl - 90. fantastic last start, loves the track and he has drawn to lead. The big issue is he is the defending champion of this race and while the previous years winners usually run well it has been 1912 since the last back to back winner. Will give a huge sight and can win but more a place bet for me.
3. September Run. Scratched.
4. The Inferno - 84. Back to near his best last start rushing late off a good speed which will be the same set up here. He does not have much gate speed but if he can sit closer from the gate the fact that the fields tend to fan off the fence in the straight here, will assist him getting a run late. He will need another Zahra special (his ride on Jungle Magnate last week was awesome) and if he can get a clear run late he can win. Wishing Cliff Brown better luck than last week.
5. Beau Rossa - 77. His best is good enough but I do not like it when good fresh horses are spelled off a poor prep and then do not run well fresh. He has the talent but from the outside gate he can run without me.
6. In The Boat. Scratched.
7. Instant Celebrity - 84. I am utterly confused as to what happened in the Robert Sangster as the front runners just kept going and nothing made ground. Look at her best she is clearly a top quality mare, but I can not back her from the gate and the run she will get.
8. The Astrologist - 85. Here is what you call an old fashioned Goodwood hope. Trained in country Victoria, in group 1 form and weighted well and drawn well. I never thought I would tip him in a group I never thought I would tip this horse in a group 1 but he will get every hope and looks well placed.
9. Halvorsen - 80. I love him down the straight but his last two around a bend have been good. Not sure he is as good a chance as The Astrologist, but if he gets a crack at them late he will be in the finish.
10. Free Of Debt - 81. Did a huge job for us fresh, but he prefers the 1100m, he meets a few of those behind him last start worse at the weights and while he has drawn to again sit right on the back of the leader, he will need to use some petrol to keep himself in that spot. Has always had talent and no surprise if he wins, but for me just a top four hope.
11. Regardsmaree - 82. Coming back from 1400m but in this race that is not a disadvantage. Drawn the rails, not sure if that is a advantage for him or not. He needs all the favors but no surprise to me if won here.
12. Ironclad - 83. Just too short for him last start, but it was still a top lead in run for this. He probably is a little better at the 1400m ( I am hearing if he runs well here he goes to Brisbane for the Stradbroke), so the stable think highly of him. I do not think he is well weighted here against some group 1 sprinters, but I can see him rushing late. Winning hope.
13. Lombardo - 74. He is a good horse but for me his form lacks depth. he steps up to a high grade field here and he might be able to scramble into a place but he is not a winning hope.
14. Outlaws Revenge - 72. I'd love to own him, but he looks a level or two below this grade.
15. Bella Nipotina - 81. I thought it was a fair run last time in that strange Sangster. She looks to get a nice run here from the gate and as long as she does not get too far back, she can win this.
16. Aysar - 76. He is not one of mine but this stable can produce a group 1 effort from their horses at odds. Can see him getting every hope and no surprise to see him run well but not win.
17. Not An Option - 79. Here is another stable who can produce a good priced winner. Fantastic win two starts ago and the not bad in a good field with 57kgs last start. Was on pace and wide two back when won so he can use the gate. Top four hope.
18. Frankie Pinot - 81. Good win in the Wangoom and has good stats both at track and also at the 1200m. However I think his best chance would have been if we had a heavy track and those conditions will not be seen, so for me he can run well but not win.
19. Extreme Warrior - 79. He looks good but his best form is at Caulfield. Not sure what type of run he gets from the gate, do they go forward or sit wide with cover? Has the talent to run well but he will need a Jamie Kah special to win here.
20. General Beau - 78. Good run last start but he will need to have improved to win here. I would like to see them try and ride him a little closer but can run top four.
21. Manhattan Times - 78. Not quite good enough for this.

Ratings

1. No.2 Savatoxl - 90
2. No.1 Behemoth - 86
3. No.8 The Astrologist - 85
4. No.4 The Inferno - 84
5. No.7 Instant Celebrity - 84
6. No.12 Ironclad - 83
Add ins for any scratchings are No.11 & No.15
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.4 The Inferno
                              $10 win No.12 Ironclad
Precedent: No.8 The Astrologist

Summary: As usual one of the best betting races on the calendar with hopes up and down the racebook. I am looking to No.4 The Inferno as my top hope here. Just a little short for him last start and he looks well placed here. No.2 Savatoxl is also well placed but he has to shake a hoodoo that has lasted for 111 years so he can run well but not win. Horses like No.1 Behemoth, No.5 Beau Rossa and No.7 Instant Celebrity are all talented enough but that have not got good recent form. No.8 The Astrologist has gone to a new level this prep and he can win here, No.11 Regardsmaree & No.12 Ironclad are both a little better at 1400m but they are good enough to win here while No.17 Not An Option could be the one at odds to run well. I think the 3yo's will need luck but for me the best of them is No.19 Extreme Warrior. No.15 Bella Nipotina was in a strange race last start can forgive and she is a genuine winning hope. Again if you like one here then back it.

Doomben Cup

1. Zaaki - 100. I thought he looked tired right at the end of the 1800m last start but I will put that down to the track condition. His class is beyond his opponents and the only thing that beats him is his condition.
2. The Chosen One - 83. Does not like heavy tracks and that is his issue here. Has the talent to run well but he will not be winning.
3. Kolding - 70. Just hates heavy tracks and surely he should just be spelled.
4. Kukeracha - 86. Is racing well and on talent he can not beat Zaaki, but he can place again.
5. Great House - 75. This looks to be a lead in to something at 2400m. Can finish top five.
6. Heutor - 82. Good run at the Gold Coast and is improving but top four at best again.
7. Maximal - 69. Seriously what is happening here. His heavy track runs have been woeful so lets hope he just stays out of the way of the contenders.
8. Esti Feny - 65. If he wins I will donate all my clothes and belongings to the Salvos.
9. Polly Grey - 89. Genuinely took good ground off Zaaki at the Gold Coast. She is flying coming of a huge 2000m win before that and she to me is the only horse who can upset the favorite.
10. Coventina Bay - 84. Was beaten fair and square last start but I thought she looked in need of the run. Reportedly has settled in well now and she handles heavy tracks. Can not win but a genuine place hope.

Ratings

1. No.1 Zaaki - 100
2. No.9 Polly Grey - 89
3. No.4 Kukeracha - 86
4. No.10 Coventina Bay - 84
5. No.2 The Chosen One - 83
6. No.6 Heutor - 82
Add ins for any scratchings are No.5 & No.3
Recommended Bet: $50 Same race Multi No.1 Zaaki 1st + No.9 Polly Grey Top 3
Precedent: No.1 Zaaki

Summary: Not much to report here. The trifecta from The Hollindale look the 3 again. No.10Coventina Bay can improve and No.2 The Chosen one is a talented horse but the heavy track is against.
