If the Greens want to get more votes they will have to abandon the idea of taxing 'all' capital gains at the no discount rate. They don't state the boundaries but it could even be an attack on super.  I read their mailbox flyer the other day and it looks open ended.

I can’t understand why anyone would vote for the greens….then again, I haven’t seen a reason to vote for either the current government or the opposition

And on that point, when I asked this question the only response was a hilarious meltdown from an empty vessel and an enlightening silence from the others 😜

You can abstain from voting and take the fine.

 Rubbish.

I wanted Minns to get in, last state election...yet I voted Liberal because the local Labor candidate was a snot-nosed up-herself twit who put on a front at a local meeting, then I overheard her denying what she said on the phone to someone. She somehow won the seat, anyway. Good luck to her, but she'll never get my vote.

I always evaluate my local candidate, then decide. Always.

In the senate, I try to get balance. I certainly do not vote for weird parties.

I do not have 'a team'.  If the Libs ever get their act together I might return to the fold there.

But at the moment they are rabble.

I will never vote for rabble.

Every country is suffering cost-of-living crises.

You know...tariffs, tariffs...and even more tariffs...

Guess who is making it worse?

JJ has always maintained that she will vote for who she thinks is the best option locally and has openly admitted to voting for both major parties at various times.

You on the other hand come across as someone very much glued to one team, although like your mate wuners, you'll probably try tell us you'd happily vote for someone else you've just never seen the need.

Boasberg finds probable cause to hold Trump officials in criminal contempt over deportation flights

The judge said the administration had defied his order to stop deportations to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act.A federal judge on Wednesday found probable cause to hold Trump administration officials in criminal contempt for what he said was a “willful disregard” of his order to stop transferring deportees to El Salvador for imprisonment in a notorious maximum security prison.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg found that the government last month rushed to fly two planes carrying hundreds of passengers to the Salvadoran prison in the hours after the judge barred the government from doing so.

“The Constitution does not tolerate willful disobedience of judicial orders — especially by officials of a coordinate branch who have sworn an oath to uphold it,” Boasberg wrote in a 46-page decision.

The judge, an Obama appointee, said that the Trump administration had stonewalled and refused to provide information to him in hearings after his initial order, rather than admitting “a grave mistake” and detailing steps to rectify the situation. The Trump administration had invoked the Alien Enemies Act to carry out the rushed deportations, and it argued that divulging details to Boasberg would jeopardize state secrets.

Criminal contempt can be punished by fines or imprisonment. Boasberg did not identify specific officials he might refer for criminal prosecution. First, he wrote, he will give the administration a chance to “cure” the violation — perhaps by arranging a way for the deportees to use the U.S. courts to challenge their detention in the El Salvador prison.

That solution, Boasberg wrote, would not necessarily require bringing the deported men back to the U.S. or even releasing them from the prison.

But if the administration doesn’t rectify the issue, the judge said he may require administration officials to testify under oath so that he can identify the specific individuals responsible for violating his order. He would then request that those individuals be prosecuted.

The judge signaled he could appoint an outside lawyer to prosecute the contempt case if the Justice Department declines to do so.

The White House said it would challenge Boasberg’s ruling. “The president is 100% committed to ensuring that terrorists and criminal illegal migrants are no longer a threat to Americans and their communities across the country,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said.

The showdown with Boasberg comes as the Trump administration is already locked in a separate high-stakes confrontation with a judge in another deportation case. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis has ordered at least four officials to give sworn testimony about the administration’s refusal to take significant steps to comply with her order that they facilitate the return to the U.S. of an illegally deported man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

The Liberals suffered a higher % loss of votes than the Greens, does that mean they're dead as well?

Not really. Labor has the majority, but will still need the Greens to pass legislation.

It is more pertinent that the Libs cannot block legislation on their own.

I'm a bit on Carl Sagan's side in this. I think the Libs need to re-invent themselves with a new name.

The Greens are on very shaky ground after Bandt and MC-M came close to destroying their credibility.

The only reason they do well in the senate vote is because the electorate has to choose six parties to vote for.

And most of those up for selection are weird.

From Peter Lindon-Jones facebook (whoever he is)

THE GREENS WERE FOUNDED TO STOP RENEWABLE ENERGY?
Read that again. The Australian Greens, the party that lectures you about solar panels, carbon emissions, and the climate emergency were literally born to stop a hydro-electric dam.
1972 Tasmania. The state government wanted to build a hydro-electricity scheme at Lake Pedder. Clean. Renewable. Carbon neutral. Cheap power for the Tasmanian economy.
Environmentalists lost their minds. They formed the United Tasmania Group on 23 March 1972, the world’s first green political party specifically to stop it.
They failed. The dam was built. Lake Pedder was flooded. And the movement that became the Australian Greens was born out of that loss.
Their founding moment, their origin story was a campaign to block renewable energy.
Let that sink in.
Ten years later they did it again. The Franklin Dam, another hydro-electric project, another source of clean, renewable power. Bob Brown got arrested at the site. Spent 19 days in prison. Became a hero. The dam was stopped. Tasmania lost another source of cheap, carbon-neutral electricity.
The Greens took the protest logo from the Franklin campaign, the green triangle that said “No Dams”, removed the words, slapped their party name on it, and pretended it was always about them.
It wasn’t. Those were community campaigns. The Greens appropriated the symbol of movements that existed long before the party did.
And who else was in the mix when the formal party came together in 1992?
Expelled far-left Labor members from Sydney’s inner west. Former communists from WA who lost their political home when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Members of the militant Builders Labourers Federation, the same union movement that coined the term “green bans” in 1973. Anti-nuclear activists. Inner-city radicals.
That’s the cocktail. Genuine environmentalists mixed with hard-left political orphans who needed somewhere to go after communism collapsed.
Net zero? That didn’t enter Australian politics until 2022. The Greens were 50 years old by then. They just bolted it onto a platform that was always about something else, stopping things, blocking things and saying no.
They haven’t changed.
They blocked housing bills while families slept in cars. They want to shut down coal and gas with no transition plan for the workers. They oppose AUKUS. They sided with the bikie-infiltrated CFMEU. They voted for hate speech laws that got an 18-year-old arrested for a t-shirt. They lost three of four lower house seats in 2025 because even their own voters figured it out.
54 years. From stopping hydro dams to stopping housing. From blocking renewable energy to blocking everything.
The party that was founded to stop clean power now lectures Australia about the climate emergency.
The party that started by saying “No Dams” never learned to say anything else. They just found new things to say no to.
Australia doesn’t need a 54-year-old protest movement dressed up as a political party. It needs builders. Doers. People who say yes and here’s how.
The Greens were born blocking. They’ll die blocking. The only question is how much damage they do on the way out.
Did you know this? Because most Australians don’t, I didn’t…! I’m just doing some research.
