I think he was a brilliant colt but just like Dalasan they were more about a stallion career than what was best for him on the racetrack.

His brilliance would have been electrifying over 2400m just like Dundeel, Deep Impact and Galileo.

Hopefully Waller does not get too many of his stamina laden colts.

First Winner for The Autumn Sun

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 6

Arrowfield Stud’s promising young sire The Autumn Sun is on the board with his first winner and interestingly Tulsi was also the most expensive filly purchased from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale last year when snapped up by Glenn Burrows Bloodstock for $550,000.

Race favourite Tulsi justified some inspired support when she made a successful debut at Tauherenikau in New Zealand on Monday.

The Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard-trained juvenile had won a trial in impressive fashion at Foxton last month, with punters seeing enough to install her the $2.10 favourite for the 1000m two-year-old dash, with Michael McNab aboard.

McNab bounced the filly away well but elected to take cover as the early pace was disputed by stablemates Lincoln Towers and Get Funky.

McNab swooped wide on the corner and under a vigorous ride Tulsi unleashed a powerful finishing burst to take the victory by a head.

Raced by Gary Harding after she was purchased from the Valiant Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale on his behalf by Glenn Burrows Bloodstock for $550,000, Tulsi looks to have a bright future ahead of her, an opinion shared by Benner.

Tulsi was the most expensive filly and third highest priced yearling sold at Inglis Classic last year.

Tulsi was the most expensive filly and third highest priced yearling sold at Inglis Classic last year.

“She looks and raced like a true professional, which was great to see as she was up against a field that had plenty of raceday experience,” Benner said.

“She has improved after her trials and what she has done today suggests there is plenty of ability there.

“She is a very laid back filly who is built more like a colt, but I loved just how relaxed she was before the race and again when she pulled up.”

Benner is keen to lift his sights for his charge who the stable had identified as a stakes contender some time ago.

“We thought we had a good one on our hands so we have taken a patient approach with her as I believe whatever she does at two, she will be even better next season,” he said.

“We have just ticked her along and now she has that experience under her belt we will see how she pulls up before deciding where to next, but a race like the Sires’ Produce (Gr.1, 1400m) at Awapuni is not out of the question.

“I think she will definitely get a mile as a three-year-old but for the time being we will just let her tell us how far we can go in this campaign.”

Tulsi is the first winner for Lonhro mare Talimena, a winning half-sister to Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi and stakes-winner Cossetot from the family of Group I winners Denman and Preserve.

Talimena was one of 159 mares covered last spring by The Autumn Sun.

Tulsi is the first winner for Arrowfield Stud’s champion Redoute’s Choice son The Autumn Sun, who has 15 entries for Inglis Classic, which kicks off this Sunday in Sydney.

They should be outstanding at 3.

1600m and beyond should be their forte.

Carioca, a lifelong m8 of mine went the early crow on zabeel years ago, and i have never let him forget it, and another tried the same, with POD (pride of dubai), and he (m8) is now coppinig it from me as well, as i really believe POD is on the up, as for TAS, i reckon he had a dissapointing book of mares (looke like pensioners mostly, from what i have seen anyway) in his 1st crop, and is hanging in therem as Djebel says, the 2yo season and beyond (4yo) is where he will find his mettle, given his Sire Redoute's and being from one of the best Aga Khan families
Trouble with oz is that most expect stallions to come out with a bang 1st crop, but unless the pedigree basically supports that, it won't happen with the majority of sires
POD and The Autumn Sun, have basically CLASSIC pedigrees where the best from them will be 1600m and beyond.Pride of Dubai and TAS are 2 bright lights on the horizon, in correcting the dumb bias toward speed in this country
People assumed that because he won a Blue Diamond, Pride of dubai would throw sprinters, conveniently forgetting the fact that his Sire also sired Shocking
The Autumn Son won all his classic races and up to 2000m. has 1 stakeswinner from his 1st crop, encouraging i reckon
change is simply a destination on a journey reached by taking the first step (i said that) lol

I respect your knowledge from a breeding point Take2 , however TAS never enthused me both as a racehorse or type , to my eye there was a soft presence about him , maybe it was immaturity , but I'm no judge mate , so I hope your view of him as being a successful stallion is correct .

We have a share in one out of a Zoffany mare who's a half to Chill Party which won the 2000m Alister Clark Stakes as an Autumn 3yo.  The filly's half-sister by Astern won at its most recent start but not until she was an Autumn 3yo.

So you wouldn't expect our filly to show any brilliance as a 2yo and that's the way the trainer's played it:  plenty of education but now back in the paddock.  As I suspect are most of the 90-odd TAS 2yo's who are yet to race.

That said we can only hope the sire's 3yo's come into their own.

seeing how this has more to do with racing than breeding?? Gay?

The Autumn Sun has about 80 or more of his 103 live foals born 2020 named??? miscounted earlier, but still impressive

If all progeny & their stats went into 'Racing' there'd be no need for a Stallions forum Confused

try putting all the forums under the one heading, it just might stop posting in the wrong place
