Not once have I claimed the numbers I am talking about are federal only jobs. I have purely said govt jobs. Pretty clear what I am talking about by the %s I am referencing & how I referenced nurses (state based) in one of the beginning posts of the exchange.

The Federal govt do have influence over the jobs.

Who is filling all the nursing and engineering vacancies? Immigrants.

Who issues visa? Federal government.

Cut the supply and work with state governments on a better model. State govt can't employ people who aren't here.

Who funds the states payroll? GST collected from the Federal govt.

Who sets targets for public services for states to hit? Federal.

To think there isn't flow on effects and inter connectedness is ridiculous.

Besides, Labor are also in power in every mainland state I believe so it still ultimately falls back to Labor idealogy and policies.

HG:

Not quite sure where the 13% came from I can't recall where that came from but it wasn't pulled from thin air.

In deference to Horlicks I’m going to stay out of this one after last night 😇

Maybe one comment. Thanks Groucho.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

i think we need help from someone if the petro industry on this one.

seen a few newspaper letter writers saying the fuel out of reserves should be cheaper than current prices.

ignoring profiteering for a sec i would imagine the wholesale price of the reserve fuel would comprise
costs of purchase
cost of storage
cost of replenishment
and maybe other stuff

Not my comment ‘cause I said I’d stay out of this one but Groucho just texted me on the Godphone and wrote:

HG’s quote above sounds like Alan Bond in the witness box”.

Probably pulled from an article or somewhere using a slightly different definiton or timeline to what I used.

Yes — Australia’s public sector (government) employment has been around that level, depending on how it’s defined and the time period.

  • In recent years, public sector employment in Australia has generally sat between about 12% and 16% of total employment.

  • Around the late 2010s to early 2020s, estimates commonly placed it close to ~13–14%, especially when including federal, state, and local government workers.

  • During periods like the COVID-19 response, the share temporarily increased due to expanded public services (e.g., health and administration roles).

A few nuances:

  • The exact percentage changes depending on whether you include public corporations (like government-owned enterprises) or only core public administration, health, and education.

  • Australia’s public sector share is moderate compared to OECD countries—smaller than Nordic countries but similar to places like the UK.

So yes — ~13% is a realistic and historically observed figure, not an outlier.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has urged Australians to work from home where possible to mitigate a severe oil shortage, alongside calls for slower highway speeds and reduced air travel

That should fire up the anti covid mob, especially in Victoria.

Jane Hume won’t sleep tonight!

All those memories of her, “government employees will need to be in the office 5 days a week under our govt” from the last election.

That combined with opposing Labor tax cuts sealed the deal for her.

How she’s been rehabilitated into a deputy leader? I’ve got no idea.

Another FF post another FF fail. You probably tried to use the username Freefail but failed to spell/type it correctly.

I have been talking about the Federal government - 100% relevant to this thread.

What I wasn't talking about was just the federal public servants.

Eg just a few posts up federal govt issues the visas that become state govt funded workers.

Iceland beating Australia.

Majority white countries with majority having pretty tight immigration and low levels of mixed races.

Surprise surprise.

No, a special kind of idi0t, keeps telling us that an increase in state employees is a cynical federal tactic to artificially improve unemployment numbers, with the insinuation that these are nothing jobs with no value add.

Wrong again. Once again a complete faulure to comprehend what is being said. Not once did I say its a tactic or cynical tactic. Its just an effect of what is happening.

Re no value, productivity is going backwards.

I’m definitely guilty of struggling to find any logic, or even just common sense in most of the tosh you post.

Your argument that it’s better for this nation to have an inferior health system than we have currently,is a great example of how your crazy prejudices, make logic impossible for you.
