Well I doubt you'll want to turn talk back to the topics title after the result the Australian side just produced.

They have to play Sri Lanka (Mon) and Oman (Fri), while Zimbabwe have to play Ireland (Tue) and Sri Lanka (Thu).

A loss to Sri Lanka will nearly finish them off, they would then require Zimbabwe lose both of their fixtures and a large NRR swing against Oman.

Zimbabwe beating Australia was the upset the tournament needed to keep it interesting before the Super 8s.

Group A and Group D look all but sorted, big game today is England vs Scotland, Ireland also play Oman in a consolation fixture, New Zealand also play South Africa in a match that only really decides who finishes top, unless UAE can somehow defeat Afghanistan and South Africa back to back.

Make or break tonight for Australia, playing Sri Lanka.

Steve Smith has been parachuted into the squad, taking the spot vacated by the injured Josh Hazlewood, he'll likely play tonight.

And Sri Lanka smash the aussies !!!!!

Seriously what a win and the little Sri Lankan opener Nissanka got a 100 too, off 52 balls. Sri Lanka win by 8 wickets, Australia scored 181 they lost 10 wickets for 77.

Sri Lanka still needed a miracle as they haven't chased down a score like to beat Australia in a white ball t-20 for a very long time. Sri Lanka were 184-2 at the end with still 12 balls left.

Australia can only hope that Zimbabwe lose against Ireland today, otherwise they are out of the WC and on a plane home.

Australia spanked by Sri Lanka overnight, the tournament hopes now hang on tonight's game between Ireland and Zimbabwe, should Ireland win, they'll need Zimbabwe to lose to Sri Lanka on Thursday and probably need a commanding victory against Oman to swing the NRR and qualify in second.

Worth mentioning also that Ireland can actually jump into 2nd in the Group tonight if they can beat Zimbabwe and swing the NRR enough, needing a 0.92 swing to move into 2nd.

The other groups are far more straight forward, India are through in Group A, Pakistan will join them if they beat Namibia tomorrow, a loss would see the USA go through.  West Indies and England are through in Group C, while in Group D South Africa have advanced, New Zealand need only defeat Canada today to join them.

I don't think any sport is more capable of making itself look like Grandpa Simpson than cricket, they've somehow devised a system that sees the 4 Group winners from the first Group stage in one Pool, with the 4 second placed sides in the other.

A 10 year old could have devised a better competition.
