what mare has produced most number of Gp1’s and On another topic  most Gp winners? This asks for 2 different mares. And Gp/Gp1 in Australia/NZ AND separately international Arenas. So 4 answers.

Is that since pattern racing was introduced or do earlier races that were subsequently recognised as Gp1 count?

Eight Carat would have a very good record of producing Gp1 winners.

Dunno Carioca, however she certainly was a marvelous broodmare.

Dahlia, La Troienne and Urban Sea also come to mind in the NH, but maybe wouldn't stack up to Majestic's criteria.

Wow what a mare Sappho is Furious. I've never seen her credited before. During Eight Carat's time she (Eight Carat) was generally accepted as the world leader but clearly not!

Hello,
I would like to add some great "German broodmares" historical and comtemporary, because during the last years many of my homebreds were send to your apart of the racing world.

Keep in mind opposite to other Thoroughbredracing countries, only 7(!) of your Group Races got a the Number 1 Status.

Would you accept daughters/granddaughters of this influential Mares?

Best regards, Ticino

It's hard as she is before G1 credited racing. But the races were the best of the best back in her days also. It is also hard with the early ones as some of the great early races have gone but in there day would of been G1. I disn't credit those but gave some credit to races at G1 level today or known as G1 races when won

Kristen Manning

Studying the winners of Australia's 70 plus G1 winners for 2021 - any guesses for what % are the sons and daughters of stakes winning mares?
What % out of unraced mares
What % out of unplaced mares

30.5% of the 59 individual G1 winners this year are out of stakes winning mares
13.5% out of unraced mares
11.8% out of unplaced mares
62.7% are out of winning mares

The entire broodmare population (all levels of race record) produces one stakes winner per 70 foals = 1.4%.

You have to remember that unraced or unplaced doesn't necessarily mean no ability.  THings go wrong.  Horses injury themselves etc etc.  Never totally write off a mare because of her record.

In truth the bare stats are open to interpretation, if only because it's difficult to take "opportunity" into account.

I think it's simply another tool in the kit, as is breeding to superior females; we all know it's an inexact science but also, forewarned can be forearmed Wink
Tall poppy syndrome is well & truly alive when it comes to high priced yearlings & breeding stock so personally, I'm not averse to discovering they're not all walkers as some social media antagonists like to insist on.

Pretty sure Todman's trainer said he used to trip when he walked but now galloping was a different kettle of fish.  Words to that effect anyway.
Tall poppy syndrome has been in Australian racing from day one.  Why do you think for about 40 years we imported the vast majority of our stallions and ignored anything bred here.  Why do you think Tasmania, Queensland and West Australian studs have some lovely mares from families like the Eight Carat, Manto, Eulogy, Juliet, Black Swan female lines etc.  Because the big studs want the latest greatest family and toss out the ones that were yesterdays families.
Better the other states than Korea or other Asian countries.  That is a death sentence for the line coming back.
The big money world wide doesn't own them all.  Because as Gay3 says its not an exact science.  Pedigree, pasture, seasons, management, injury, bad luck, good luck etc etc.  So many variables.
