As another breeding season draws to a close, Racing.com reflects on some of the star race mares who have become mums in recent months. Some, like four-time Cox Plate champion Winx and speed machine Pippie welcomed their first foals, while others like Jameka and Shoals are building a legacy in the breeding barn.

Winx: It didn't go to plan with the champion mare's maiden pregnancy but, after a year off, she gave birth to a stunning Pierro filly in early October.

Sunlight: Another colt on the ground for the top sprinter who, after delivering a son of Justify in 2021, dropped a youngster by another Coolmore shuttler in Wootton Basset in mid-September.

Alizee: After leaving an I Am Invincible filly in 2021, Darley sent its star mare to Anamoe's sire Street Boss, the result of which was a colt born in mid-September this year.

I Am A Star: Extreme Choice's star continues to rise and in several seasons he'll have a filly out of this G1 winner running around after she hit the ground in mid-October.

Nettoyer: Purchased for $1.3 million in foal to Capitalist at this year's Magic Millions National Sale, the G1 winner gave birth to a filly in mid-October.

Melody Belle: The brilliant Kiwi mare's maiden mating with champion stallion Written Tycoon produced a filly, born in mid-August.

Jameka: The Caulfield Cup winner visited Darley's shuttler Ghaiyaath last year and delivered a filly foal born in late September.

Shoals: A bit of deja vu for connections with the dual G1 winner producing a filly by I Am Invincible in early September, just as she did in 2021.

Lyre: The Blue Diamond winner's first foal is a colt by noted two-year-old sire Exceed And Excel, born in early September.

Pippie: The dual G1 winner was another mare to become a mum for the first time this spring, dropping a Snitzel filly in early September at Cressfield Stud.

It takes a wise man a lifetime to grow a tree and a fool five minutes to kill one.
