Hello,
I have spotted the Name of "Sound Check" in the starter field of the Melbourne Coup. So I decided to write some Pedigree notes about him. Sound Check (Lando-Sky Dancing by Exit to Nowhere) from the Goody-Two-Shoes Family via Carpet Slipper-Vali, from the succesful French branch. Lando is bred 3x3 Literat/Liberty FB/FS from the German "Lovely Naples" branch and succesful Sire. The dam sire Exit to Nowhere traces to "Coup de Folie", bred 3x3 Alamahmoud, bred the same way as Danehill and from the same Family. Irish River his sire o/o Irish Star, bred 3x5 Sweet Lavender, 4x5 Swynford; her dam Black Brook is 3x3 Plucky Liege. Sky Dancing (dam of Sound Check) is bred 4x4 Klairon (more of the Marchetta Family) and the Granddam Saquiace is by Sagace (by Luthier) from the German Schwarzgold Family. Sagace brings in one more strain of the Vali, via Seneca-Chaparral-Val de Loir-Vali He was bred in Germany by the Ittlingen Stud in 2013, was trained by Mr. Peter Schiergen, one of Germany's Top Trainers and had won in my Home Country several races. At 4: Baden Racing Steher Cup (L) 2800 meter, 2. Hoppegartener Steher Preis (L) 2800 meter, 4. Dt. St. Leger (Gr. 3) 2800 meter; at 5: Oleander Rennen (Gr.2) 3200 meter, Altano Rennen (L) 2800 meter, 2. Gr. Preis v. Berlin (Gr. 1) 2400 meter, 3. Gr. Preis v. Hamburg 2000 meter He has a FB named "Scalo", with a better class, he won and was more placed in Group Races and stands at Sire at the "Haras de Logis" (France). He already have some winners, but with no "Black Type". Regards from Germany, Ticino

Well done to Sound today.
He’s been racing really well this spring. I know he already had 2 cracks at the Melbourne Cup in 2018 & 2019 but I’ve heard Mike Moroeney mention that he’s going better than ever and was desperate to get him in for 2020 as a genuine top 10 chance.

Group 2 success. Enjoy a Beck's Ticino, or maybe a lovely La Roche riesling.

Hello,
many thankd for the info, about the win of "Sound" (former Sound Check) in Germany. That are good news, after I heard about the passing of a good "Pedigree friend" of mine just a week ago. regards, Ticino |

Noticed Mike M0roney has him lining up in the Avondale Cup today. Must be having another crack at the Auckland Cup next month.
Bit sad to see the prize money for the 2021 Avondale Cup at only $100k. That’s exactly the same as it was 30 years ago when Coconut Ice beat the mighty Castletown.

Correct. Travelled to NZ 10 days ago
Story from R&S Multiple Group Two winner Sound travels to New Zealand on Wednesday night as he bids to add some Cup wins to his record for trainers Michael Moroney and Pam Gerard. The eight-year-old stallion is set to tackle the Gr.2 Wallen Concreting Avondale Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday week with Troy Harris booked to ride. The son of Lando is being set for the Gr.1 Barfoot and Thompson Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie on March 13, a race in which he finished second to Roger That last year. The winner of the Gr.2 Zipping Classic (2400m) last November, Sound resumed with a luckless sixth at Caulfield on January 30 where he found traffic in the home straight. The performance convinced Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Moroney his import had retained his zest for racing. "He's an eight-year-old stallion but you wouldn't know it around the stable," Moroney said. "He's a quiet, kind horse and a real favourite with everyone, so there will be a few sad faces at Flemington on Thursday morning when he's not in his box. "He had no luck at Caulfield which was just the way the race was run and I think had he been able to get clear running he nearly wins the race which his stablemate Hang Man dead-heated with Defibrillate." Sound is no stranger to New Zealand having finished a gallant runner-up in last year's Auckland Cup before the COVID-19 shutdown prevented him from returning to Australia for a Sydney Cup campaign, meaning his stay in New Zealand was elongated. "He went into last year's race at Ellerslie off a spring preparation and had the two runs in Melbourne before travelling last year," Moroney said. "He retained a good degree of residual fitness from his last spring campaign and he is clearly up to winning a race like the Auckland Cup which would be terrific as he has a large percentage of New Zealand ownership. "He's still a stallion and a lovely horse with a future at stud, but we're looking forward to winning some more races with him before then. "He did a smart piece of work on the grass at Flemington on Tuesday and I'm confident if he runs up to his best he'll be the horse to beat in both races." |
