Manchester City  made an estimated £50m transfer profit this year, thanks to big sales like Raheem Sterling to Chelsea, and Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal.

I would love to see the negotiations because there appears to be no negotiation at all. The Saudis just pull insane numbers out of their clackers before the negotiations start. Benzema is 35 years old currently on $17 million a year. There is way on earth it would take $327 million to get him next season. LOL

Same for the other two. They are paying 6, 8, 20 times what any rival bidder would pay.

Presumably the hope is that by paying overs for names like Ronaldo, Messi and Benzema, they'll attract other players more talented than currently playing in the league and increase the leagues ability overall?

But all they are doing by paying the old farts astrodollars is raising the expectation of any top player considering a move and p1ssing off all the local players on 0.05% of their earn.

Mission impossible? Spurs are a rubbish team with one big asset which they will lose before he gets there. Kane had another great season.

For many years now it's been apparent that the best way for Premier League clubs to prosper is to hire or sign overseas born managers and players.  Elite local talent in both categories being just a trifle thin on the ground.

Mind you even Ange would be pushing it uphill to resurrect Tottenham.

I think Ange will be suited to Spurs, who's fans traditionally like to play an attractive style of football which Ange can deliver.  He's also shown an ability to find some diamonds in the rough and on the relative cheap, which will no doubt make the legendarily frugal Daniel Levy happy if he can pull it off once again.

Highly unlikely that Kane is allowed to leave until the new gaffer comes in and at least has a chance to talk to him although to be fair it is highly unlikely that he isn't either sold or signing a new contract this summer.  Lets not forget that two summers ago Jack Grealish and Harry Kane were the supposed double signings for Man City after Euro 2020, yet it didn't materialise and Haaland arrived a year later.  Still perhaps the best result for Spurs may be that both Man Utd and Real Madrid decide they want Kane, meaning they get top of the market for him and Ange is given a decent warchest to re-invest in the side.

First it was LIV Golf, now Saudi Arabia is staging a $32 billion football takeover

Cristiano Ronaldo was just the start. The former Manchester United star’s deal with Saudi club Al Nassr, which is worth more than $300 million a year, is a drop in the Persian Gulf when it comes to the scale of the oil-rich state’s footballing ambitions, which became eye-wateringly apparent this week.

Having completed a takeover of professional golf through LIV’s stunning merger with the PGA Tour, it appears Saudi Arabia’s next government-sanctioned sporting target is the beautiful game. And with a huge war chest to spend on football’s biggest stars over the next two years – as much as €20 billion ($32 billion), according to Spanish outlet El Mundo, to help propel the Saudi Professional League into one of the world’s top 10 competitions – it may never look the same again.

...

It is reminiscent of how the Chinese Super League spent extraordinary amounts on players like Carlos Tevez, Alex Teixeira and Oscar to boost the sport in that country, and the country’s standing within the sport. But where that effort fizzled out amid financial crises, corruption allegations and on-field impotence, the Saudis seem to have much deeper, more intricate plans, a stronger will to see them through, an existing tradition in football to leverage (best represented by their watershed World Cup upset over Messi’s Argentina in Qatar) and, crucially, a lot more money.

Saudi's need to be stopped imo, don't know how that would happen but it needs to. You cannot have a country, who fails human rights and pollutes the worlds air with fossil fuels, take over all our beloved sport, just because they have endless money, it just shouldn't be allowed. It is true that greed will allow it to happen and that is just a huge shame imo.

Messi has turned down a $1.6 billion Saudi contract to play with Inter Miami.Confused Which I admit I find absolutely incomprehensible because Messi and Pa have never shown any scruples in chasing a buck before, and he's already on the Saudi teat as a tourism ambassador.

But, why exactly did Messi choose Inter, a side at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, over a Barcelona reunion or a mammoth move to Saudi Arabia? Well, to be clear, Barca wasn't completely realistic, unfortunately. Messi and his father met with Joan Laporta to discuss a potential move, but the LaLiga champions are still in enough financial trouble that bringing back their most legendary player ever was a pipe dream. The only way it can still happen is if Miami decides to loan Messi to Spain, but that feels unlikely. I mean, they want him to help this club become a force in Major League Soccer as soon as humanly possible.

As for Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo's rival club, Al-Hilal, was the one chasing Messi's signature. In fact, they were prepared to pay him in the ballpark of €400 million per season. Keep in mind, he already gets paid more than €100 million per year to be a tourism ambassador for the Kingdom. Based on reports, Lionel Messi wasn't so keen on moving his family to the Middle East. Ronaldo has already voiced that it's been difficult living in Saudi because of the strict policies, especially for women and how they're allowed to dress. It's a no-BS country.

Nice place to visit, says my €100 million per year, but I wouldn't want to live there. Even for a couple of years.

Barca played a big role in Messi becoming the player he is, why is he allowing financial greed and nothing else stopping a return to the club?
