    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 at 12:10pm
time to start planning......
Sh'Bourne Star should go to a stallion this year money permitting. I am happy to look to Victoria up to 11 grand although i have had very little luck sending mares there. being by Rothesay there is already one Male Danehill in the mix.
Given the results of Wordsmith of late he is currently my preference . The lines may not be awesome but it doesnt appear to matter with him. He just throws winners from any lines thrown at  him. Happy to consider any of the performing Tassie sires too. I know Toorak Toff has some nice crosses however his stakes records is poor.
thanks in advance for your great support and knowledge.

Cheers Slowdown.

One from left field in Vic. about $2k & guaranteed to be treated like one of her own. Kylie Stephenson who you may know (involved in getting your ex mare out of Echuca & back to you) has about 25 years reproductive experience & is fastidious. He's thrown winners up North & has superb temp.

Slowdown, as with Gay's suggestion and imo you need Redoute's Choice in the sire.

For me the clear standout from a breed to race perspective in particular is Thronum.  A match would give you siblings Shantha's Choice and Umatilla 4 x 3, and further sibs Canny Lad and Canny Lass 5 x 4.

Add in crosses of Danehill (4th remove), Lunchtime, Mr Prospector, Nijinsky, Buckpasser etc etc and it's a really attractive march.

Plus the Widden (Vic) personnel will to a large extent be the same ones you've dealt successfully with in the past under the Sun Stud banner.  Reckon you could get him for about $4,400.

If you want to stay at home Needs Further might do.

Over to others.

Master of Desigh adds a 3rd Best in Show if that's of any consequence. Redente & Pariah are other Vic. Redoute's.

I don't know much but could Levendi be an option?
Read that he is heading to Tassie this season, not sure what they plan on charging though.

thanks for the input guys. apologies i should have mentioned that i would like to go with proven stallions as the progeny will be to race. think she may be only border line on commercial or perhaps not at all so we will look to race. Cheers Slowdown

Well I did like Redoute's for the dam.  With this one Rothesay comes into play as well and he has crossed well with Show a Heart (Over Exposure and Havasay).  Just saying you have Toorak Toff down there now also.

If you go to Wordsmith you get the Fastnet/Perugino (1/2 to Sadler's Wells) cross and Nijinsky 4m x 5f which is always nice.

With Toorak Toff you get Bletchingly 5m x 5f and to lines of female Nijinsky.

Needs Further gives you the Fastnet/Fairy King (full to Sadler's Wells) cross.  THis time you get the 3f x 4m cross for Danehill and an all female Bletchingly cross.

Alpine Eagle gives you the Fastnet/Sadler's Wells cross.  You also get a cross for Sir Tristram which I think would fit well.

Levendi give you a line of Sir Tristram as well as the Redoute's cross.

One of interest who is very cheap in Vic is Inference with the Sadler's Wells cross but out of a Redoute's mare so giving you the Dancing Show cross f x m  Sir Tristram 5f x 5m,  Nijinsky 5m , 5m x 5f  All very good.

While Swear gives you both the Redoute's and Show a Heart blood and a Jesmond Lass cross 5m x 5f and Dancing Show 4f x 4m.  Not many pedigrees give you two outstanding mares in a sex balanced cross.

So thus far we're down to Needs Further and Wordsmith (Tassie at least) in terms of proven stallions.

You forgot Toorak Toff who's going super Big smile

To throw another one into the mix. Ilovethiscity keeps producing winners and seems to do well by reinforcing the Sir Tristram influence in his pedigree. This mare carries two lines of that stallion. He produces essentially 1000-1600m types which would seem to be ideal for the mare who sees MM winner  Regimental Gal among her relatives.

Another one by Lonhro in Victoria is Mezyaan - unraced due to injury in training, but he's a lovely specimen and temperament.  I have my mare in foal to him at the moment.

Well Slowdown wants a proven sire, and that entirely changes the ball game.

Most proven Victorian based sire are out of his price range, which to my mind leads us to Al Maher and Bel Esprit (both getting on, particularly the latter) and Rebel Dane which has started his stud career well with a stakes-winner from his first small crop.

Or stay at home and go with Needs Further.

Al Maher, hands down, for a stallion in Vic.

Manhattan Rain is at the top end of your budget.  He brings in a line to Canny Lad and Dancing Show without additional Danehill and he's a solid, useful stallion.

gday Guys, thanks so much for your advice. Things are getting towards normal and I have started to work through your advice. I am looking at  the proven stallions and will then compare a lot of factors. one thing i do have a question on is with Al Maher being 16.3 does he have large foals ? just wondering as it will be Star's first foal... Cheers Slowdown.

For Me , I like Starcraft for her , he seems to like key elements  her bloodlines  , not sure of fee or availability but was an extremely good racehorse ,with a talent for producing a very good horse when  needed .
