Catholic Hungary, the 1,100 year old Kingdom.

Not the 40 year old occupation of Soviet Communism.

It took us 40 years to beat it.

Australia and Canada are in for a long long long fight against Communism.
Good luck with it.

Only just got home and hearing about this so don't know what's happening, but wow if Putin goes full attack mode into Dnipro and Kyiv... it could get ugly fast. Agree with TJ that cheering on war is sick, but you gotta admit it's morbidly fascinating if you've studied European history a bit. Putin is one formidable dude, that's for sure.

Watch 'The Journey'. A story about a busload of people attempting to flee Hungary during the 1956 invasion, by Russia.

 It's a great movie.

Putin is just big-noting himself to justify his leadership.

Didn't see it mate, don't worry. Agree Putin's a dead set bastard. If he's really properly attacking Ukraine major cities, he's even worse than I thought. I thought he'd just take little bites around the borders, minimising damage etc.

This situation has clear and serious geo-political implications, even if some around here (or maybe just one) consider non-European nations should keep out of the diplomatic comment, discussion and debate.  Ouch  Confused

On a humorous note, did anyone hear Shammys fat orange mate talking to Laura, saying the USA amphibious invasion of Ukraine should have been kept a secret, and not announced on Fox?

She quickly interrupts him to say , nah, that’s the Russians….

I knew he was stoopid, but that even tops looking straight into the sun.
What an idiot!

And what are they, SC? Admittedly I didn't imagine Putin would invade major cities, if he has. That has shocked me. If it's true.

I wonder where Putin, reputedly the richest bastard in the universe, keeps his money? Some enterprising hackers should find out.

Russia is the world's largest supplier of fertiliser so guess what that'll do to food prices! Not to mention massive increases in fuel both gas & petrol Disapprove

Russia sanctions, Ukraine conflict likely to increase petrol, gas, fertiliser and wheat prices

Russia Bans Fertilizer Exports; Will Weigh on Brazil Corn Crop

5 February 2022 NB: Before latest sanctions!

Russia, the world’s biggest exporter of fertilizers, imposed a two-month ban on ammonium nitrate exports. The move threatens to reduce fertilizer supplies, especially to South America, which is at a critical point in its growing season.

Brazil is by far the top importer of ammonium nitrate from Russia. Brazil’s large second corn crop, or safrinha, will be planted in the next few weeks, following the country’s soybean harvest, and will require nitrogen fertilizer in many fields after the corn has emerged. Brazil is the world’s No. 2 corn exporter in most years.

stayer, the fertiliser increase, especially urea & super, has huge repercussions for us! Many are making great inroads using sustainable methods but not the 90% of traditionalists who because of sustained use, are needing to add more & more to get similar yields to 40odd years ago.
Chinese sanctions aren't helping either!

Before this, fertiliser costs for next growing season looked like being about 50% more than last year so where they will end up who knows.

At least for the farmers the price of grain will somewhat compensate them but for the consumer simply higher and higher prices

Costs and supply of a lot of products used in agriculture have been going up since about the middle of last year, fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are all jumping, just as an example a 1000L container of Glyphosate has jumped recently from around the $4k mark to over $12k, also some products are becoming harder to supply, global shipping is also quite tricky at the moment and isn't helping supply chain issues, other industries are also have issues, as anyone trying to build a house over the past 12 months will no doubt be aware.

I doubt this war is going to help things any.
