Rule 1 . This thread has to be Heartless, Remain in the "We Don't Know" Category and anything said is only an opinion.
Some facts that may cast doubts on Scientific decisions and show how many diseases we endure, could well be Man Made.
The current Virus aside, Lets look at a scurge That has haunted the world for over 40 years. One of the longer lasting Virus for 100 years.
HIV/AIDS, >Contrary to some opinions is alive and well. killed 1.5 million last year, world wide.   >Medical Science has developed Immune suppressants, That slowed and prevented this disease from becoming a full blown AIDS and gives most sufferers a longer lifespan.
BUT at what price. ?
Would the World have been better to have done the same with it as was done in Sanatoriums for Tuberculosis , years ago.   Detention until free of it or allowed to pass away and free the Public from further infections.
The path taken with HIV /AIDS has taken on , some frightening statistics.
The one which stands out is that most HIV deaths, are now caused by Tuberculosis.
One has to ask, by keeping these HIV people alive, incurable , have we created a breeding ground for one of the most deadly diseases Man has seen. Tuberculosis.
This is the type of question that emerges, with Medical Science, in most
of these epidemic/pandemic outbreaks. When Nature is being interfered with.
The Worlds Population was 1.8 billion 100 years ago , 4 times greater today , and unsustainable.   That alone makes one stop and think.

Should we keep people keep people with type 1 diabetes or silicosis alive?

They are other diseases that weaken the immune system, can't be cured, and increase the chances of getting tb.

I expected Some would find the reality of interference with nature, beyond them , but it is real and common sense should indicate, that many areas we speak of, are unsustainable. China has more oldies Than productive young.
Tlaz chooses a couple of areas that have no bearing on the "meat" of the subject. Both are more a lifestyle choice in most cases. Of course we will suffer if we gorge sugar products, beyond our capacity to deal with it and breathing in harmful material should be a well known, NO NO.
The interference of immune systems may be encouraging such a powerful body protection army , That the ever increasing cases of that army attacking it's own body, may well be a result of manufactured treatments of other illness. ??? Multiple Sclerosis is one that comes to mind.

I am aware diabetes 1 is an auto immune disease.   Could cases of that be in the man made category too.

The obvious way to stop AIDS infected spreading TB is to keep them healthy, since TB is caused by a weakened immune system. Healthy AIDS infected don't have TB.Geek

The way to stop TB infected, from any cause, is to keep them healthy, since latent TB infected cannot spread TB, only the sick.Geek

So the obvious conclusion from these facts is to spend more on the health of TB infected including AIDS TB infected.Geek

When I was a kid at school one of my good friends brother went to the USA on an internship to one of the big Pharmaceutical companies. The brother was a brilliant student and was studying biochemistry at uni. He wanted to cure cancer. He was thrilled with the opportunity to study on the front line so to speak. He lasted exactly 6 months returning home totally disillusioned with his chosen field of study. He said that it was immediately obvious that big pharmaceutical didn’t want to cure cancer they wanted to find the drug that would cure cancer and make themselves trillions . There was no interest in preventative measures . My friend believed that the research was pointing quite clearly that a comprised immune system was the cause of most cancers . Caused he believed by all the chemicals we surround ourselves these days , especially plastics. This all happened in the 70s and it made an impression on my young mind. I’ve always tried to keep as much plastic and chemicals out of my home, watch carefully what my family eats and I’ve never trusted anything the pharmaceutical companies say. And no more m not an anti vaccine person. Those people are crazy!

Took a long time to manage it PT.     I'm suggesting , somewhere in the mix of all these diseases is a Right way & a Wrong.
I read once that small pox only affected Humans, What the merits of that are ,I don't know. These virus of today are believed to originate from the animal kingdom.
These questions are "out there" ,   The meat in This thread isn't mine.
I find it very interesting , especially when you look at the undeniable problems of the worlds population.   What will that be in another 100 years.

Fun fact, most zoonotic diseases come from bats which make up one quarter of all mammal species.

That's what I'm looking for Baguette.   Opinions that have a story to show cause.
I've noted so many new diseases being diagnosed and joining the Family of The immune system causing them. The most recent big one is Celiac disease
One of the most diagnosed , new disease's in the world , especially in grain producing Countries.   The Experts are now linking it with Thyroid ( another on the big increase ,)   Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes 1-   All related to immune systems , gone wrong.

Well Max the old saying prevention is better than cure is true but prevention doesn’t make anyone stacks of money! I see this attitude in modern horsemanship and horse management . I learnt from a young age from old fashioned horsemen who drilled into my head how to prevent colic, founder, stomach ulcers etc. They taught me the vital importance with a performance horse of warming them up properly and equally importantly cooling them down properly. All this is very labour intensive of course and it seems these days it’s easier to cut corners and call the vet when things go wrong. Makes the vets very rich!

A vet told me a particular type/form of hormone can bring on pleurisy in animals.
The doctor didnt make that connection.

How much collaboration might there be between vets and doctors?

Would be useful.

ALWAYS FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND.
even a good mechanic is hard to find as they rely on computers for diagnosis.

Last weeks ABC coronavirus podcast was on just that zoonotic contamination. Transfer of disease between wild and domestic animals and the extreme remote if any chance of cross contamination of domestic animals. Was very comprehensive and interesting. Chickens are actually high risk so not a good idea to keep chooks around Toorak . They went into the higher risk of slaughter of chooks over beef or pork or lamb.

Mass production of Chicken is relatively new Isaac.

When i was a kid , Poultry was the most expensive meat on the market.

Mass production didn't flourish until into the 1960's.

Mostly the hygiene of animals in both their living conditions and in processing contaminated meat. It isn't very rare for a disease to jump from an animal to a human in these contexts, but it is extremely rare for it to be then passed from the affected person on to another person. That is what happened in Wuhan and SARS-1, likely Ebola etc, passed through the respiratory system.

We've had Bird Flu , Swine Flu .

As our world becomes smaller and animal habitat keeps reducing , it is hard to escape mixing the different species and thereby the natural nasties common to each of them.

I think we all know to be careful of yourself and your animals around possums.   the tics live on some animals without problem but are deadly when introduced to others.

An infections specialist here in perth early on, publicly stated, on radio, that corona was nothing to worry about, it would blow over.
a week or so later the question was asked if he still had the same opinion and he was very apologetic and did a 180.
what hope......
meanwhile the ama president was strident his his criticisms of the lack of urgency.
how right was he.

The first SARS was suspected to have broken out in Zhongshan City China after the initial outbreak came in China. Testing of antibodies  clusters made it the most likely place.

My GUESS is ,    the way to go and do less damage to the economy , would have been to isolate, only areas where an infection was..   say 3 weeks if no spread.

We have locked down the whole Country , even areas that have had nothing for miles.
We kept sars 1 , Ebola etc out , By monitoring only,   From memory.
