How bloody ridiculous Angry Owners & trainers set horses for winter racing in the hope of finding heavy tracks. That track has always been safe barring surface water of which there should be none & our retirees are having no trouble flying around paddocks not 100m away, with no industry standard drainage.
No doubt plenty of criticism to come on social media. BOL anyway SC Thumbs Up

Well the winner was far too nippy for us over the 1200m, leading all the way. We settled fourth and after being held up for a distance finished on well to run second.

Either a spell or into a 1400m race to finish her prep.

Tomorrow morning or tonight for those of us who do not go to bed I have a special for you all.

Race 7 at Gowran Park I like #15 Sierra Nevada to beat home #5 Sierra Nevada.

It's on at 1.50 in the morning for those interested.

Well probably most that read it think "Race 7 at Gowran Park I like #15 Sierra Nevada to beat home #5 Sierra Nevada, which doesn't appear to make make a whole lot of sense."

Just saying.

Not much doing today on a public holiday for most states , Qld and WA declined Big smile but may well have one down the line to suit Wink but the purpose of my post is traditionally this was Brisbane Cup day , imho the more we bury ( amalgamate ) these famous races into a one off day the more they'll wither on the vine and become 2nd or 3 rd rate events , the Sydney Cup and Metropolitan are another two that will eventually suffer as they throw money at short course races , these 3 events need Their day in the sun to generate our own staying stock , I am a traditionalist and I long for the day when we see big fields without the * alongside their names , NZ excluded Smile , gimme a Redcraze, Ming Dynasty, Gurners Lane , Lord Hybrow or Foxseal and Rough Habit anyday .

Carioca, I also lament the demise of good racing on public holiday Mondays.

Queens Birthday has gone the way of Easter Monday & Labour Days with lack of any decent quality racing.

As you mentioned Queens Birthday Monday used to be Brisbane Cup day.  I’m looking at a race book from Monday 13th June 1988, when the mighty Lord Hybrow won the Brisbane Cup and then in the next race the brilliant Zedative won the JJ Atkins Stks.

Jumps racing was a feature for the Queens Birthday weekend VRC meeting, with most of the top liners going around in the LV Lachal Hdle & Glamis Stpl on the Saturday, followed by novice hurdle & steeple on the Monday.  They also ran a heat of the Winter championship in the Monday, along with a 2500m Listed race called the Birthday Handicap.

Monday also saw stacked race cards at Randwick (8 races - including the listed Winter Cup 2400m) & Victoria Park (9 races - inc the listed City of Adelaide Cup 1600m) with huge field sizes in nearly every race on the card.

Ah gee, the good old days Wink

If you backed Sierra Nevada to win race 7 at Gowran Park in Ireland on Sunday night, there’s a 50 per cent chance you collected.

It would just depend on which Sierra Nevada you backed.

In a turn of events which would not happen in Australia, two horses with the same name ran in the same race.

Britain and Ireland have a joint stud book so GB and IRE-suffixed horses cannot have the same name, however one of the Sierra Nevada was a USA bred horse thus escaping the naming rules.

The Jessica Harrington-trained Sierra Nevada (USA), which won the race, was saddlecloth 15 in the fillies maiden, while Sierra Nevada (GB) trained by Charles O’Brien donned saddlecloth five.

Commentator Peter O'Hehir distinguished between the pair by mentioning the trainer each time, saying, along the lines of, "Jessica Harrington's Sierra Nevada leads".

Under Australian race rules, no two horses can share the same name so, should a horse arrive from overseas and share a name with a local horse, the import must change.

The most recent example is He’s Our Bonneval for the Busuttin Young stable who had to change from Bonneval upon arrival in Australia from England.

New Zealand mare Bonneval last raced in 2018 but Australian rules dictate; “Except with the approval of the Registrar, a name cannot be repeated for 17 years after the birth of a horse with the same name or for 20 years after the birth of the youngest named produce of a horse with the same name.”

Sunday night’s race in Ireland was the first time since 1994 either there or in Britain where two horses with the same name had faced each other.

I'm not sure what is going on with race programming over the last month of Saturdays.
We have had the 3 major meetings crammed into a 10 or 15 minute space. Followed by
a 20 minute break with nothing happening. Absolutely ridiculous.
Am I the only 1 bothered by this?
