PURE ELATION
2yo gr/b filly 19/9/15
I Am Invincible (AUS) - Members Joy (AUS)

Surprised she hasn't got a thread yet. Unfortunately bled so we won't see her until spring but you have to believe your eyes, and ears, with this girl. Ran GS winner to a head first home run,  ran super sectionals winning her maiden easily, then brained them on Sat at Rwick. Paul Snowden said she's the best filly they've ever had and they were seriously talking The Everest!

Don't know how bleeders return but furosemide should help. Hope she comes back bigger and stronger because she's an exciting type bred to be a star.

Agree with you Nick, I would love to see Damian Browne on this filly, imo Walker is riding her on too long of reign, Josh Parr rode her beautifully two starts ago and she travelled so sweetly in the run for him, just my opinion of course.

I doubt horses would bleed that have been nurtured and not forced to grow quickly....

70% of horse bleed whether internally or externally , be it slight or enough to stop altogether, breathing properly is the main ingredient and helping them to get relaxed and into a rhythm , having a filly on the bit and going Boom they can easily hold their breath, and we know what that leads to.

Is there any medical evidence to back that up Carioca?

Back in your day 75% would of been on the gear.

Weightlifters on the roids get blood noses for no particular reason.

I've seen studies suggesting 90% of performance horses bleed internally & that fresh is best for known bleeders to give time for the body to clean up the blood from the lungs + antibiotics.

There's some research re. bleeders here, along with a couple of fanciful posts Wink

What do you base your doubts on Paul? I've only skimmed the surface of bleeding and Lasix in racehorses but can't recall coming across anything which suggests the above as possible causes. It's also not part of the Snowden MO with young horses.

Yeah don't doubt it, that's not externally and what is the medical reason for this bleeding?

Let me guess it's when they exert pressure on themselves

I am guessing the horse was not bred and raised by the trainer.

Let's Elope bled externally twice didnt she, probably trying too hard.

Does Swettenham Stud have a record of "forced growth" and selling bleeders? Grasping at straws I'd suggest. Studies have shown that low level EIPH happens regularly from hard racing as Gay and others have said, but large bleeds like PE's are fortunately rare. About one in five has a second episode, so while it's a setback it's not all doom and gloom.

Trying to think of a good horse which bled and came back at the same level. Anyone?

None the wiser from your comments 3bm just restating what has already been said by others.

There is no antidotel evidence / proof of the actual cause and would have to be on a case by case basis I guess.

I gather you don't have horses it would open your eyes and mind if you did.

Stop beating around the bushes Jim. If "enforced early growth" was a real cause we'd know by now and cases would have presented more regularly over the years, surely?

Indeed. No doubt they'll give her time to recover then scope her regularly before making any decision.

I'd love to see her return for the spring.
From her early trials she looked like a very talented filly and I was on her at Caul on debut. Given no hope with a terrible ride, and again the next start.

I agree with Carioca that Walker isn't the right jockey. Josh Parr rode her and had her relaxed whereas when Walker rides she is under a hold with him riding high in the saddle. But the owner knows best. She did win 2 for him eventually, or despite him.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left

I think she raced with a high head carriage - that could easily contribute to bleeding. Alternatively, a hard gallop with some unexpected mucus can easily result in later breathing issues and bleeding.

I had two bleed within a month of each other and both were lightly raced five year olds ( under ten starts ). Both home breds that we took plenty of time with.

Fine and Dandy, Time and Tide, Manikato, all bled once and came back as good as gold, Tara's Bulba bled twice then went to America, I've had em bleed having an afternoon pick of grass, the only certainty is...there's no certainty they won't bleed again, genetics can also be a little elephant in the room fwi, old timers would always say if they bleed feed em on the ground and make them drink from the ground.

All depends where the bleed occurs .    Nasal bleeds are common with a pressured "blow'.       . A pulmonary bleed (lung) is a different matter.
Lets hope she carries on next prep,   but she is just out of maiden class so no worries for Winx at this time.

Looks a good filly but I don't get Snowden's level of enthusiasm. Does he expect it to improve a lot as it gets older? The pedigree looks very 2yo to me.
