Okay fellow humanoids, we have a week until the next season commences, and we have seen a significant recruitment for some franchises.
I have three teams improving on last season. New England will have natural improvement from the QB's second season and also the head coach recruitment (for me Vrable is a top ten head coach).
I think Arizona have filled some of their holes, and if the offensive line can protect Kyler and give him some more time to deliver to their weapons they can improve.
And my third improver is Tennessee. They have filled some holes through the draft, their old QB was holding them back and if the rookie can find his feet they have the talent to at least be competitive against most teams. They are in a weaker division and I am not saying they will make the playoffs but I have no doubt they will improve on their 4 wins from last season.
I was relieved when Scary Terry signed with the Redskins. The Eagles look to have improved, certainly at least in depth.
Teams like Denver, Las Vegas, Chicago, L.A Chargers and Jacksonville have all improved in areas they needed to so they could improve.
The season preview to come next week!

I don't agree re the Titans. They still have a very ordinary roster.
Washington are a puzzle. They just shipped off Brian Robinson to San Fran, after weeks of arguing with Terry McLaurin about money. Austin Ekeler will be their main running back now...and he is pretty reliable, but...who else? I reckon Zach Ertz will see a lot of work.
If Buffalo do not make finals I will walk backwards from Sydney to Brisbane.
I took Denver's defence in nearly all my fantasy games. They look stronger this year.
As for the newly engaged Kansas tight-end...I predict he will have a far better year than last...probably being his last year. He has trimmed down a bit.
Green Bay? Heaven knows. Their best known WRs are already banged up a bit...so the new boy on the block will need to produce something golden. I'm still not convinced Love is the saviour...but I live in hope.

Packers defence really improved with Micah Parsons

The Cowboys’ latest offer was for five years and $202.5 million, according to a league source. Parsons rejected that proposal. As it turned out, Parsons got what he wanted and then some from the Packers with a four-year, $188 million extension that includes $136 million guaranteed. Parsons broke open the pass rusher market with that deal at $47 million annually, blowing away recent extensions for Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt ($41 million) and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett ($40 million). The Cowboys’ latest offer would have gotten Parsons to $40.5 million annually.

They've let Jaire Alexander go to Baltimore. Injuries have been taking a toll on him...but still.
Rashan Gary is still hunting...and Keisean Nixon will still be a pest all over the field.
Just checked out the entire roster. Could be interesting if Golden is as good as they think he is.

Some good money to be made on the raiders. Geno smith is a massive get for them. Brock Bowers, the best TE in the game, will relish having a competent QB.
Losing Jacobi Meyers, if the current negotiations go badly, will be a blow though

LV do not have an extensive good WR roster since losing Adams. Brock Bowers will be double tagged, being the main target.

AFC
AFC East.
Standings: Buffalo 14-3 New England 9-8 New York Jets 5-12 Miami 5-12
Overview: This division looks as though the dominance of the Bills will continue. They have an excellent roster, and the regular season should be a good one for them. I have Miami regression significantly this season. Not only have they lost players on both sides of the ball, but can Tua play a full season. Even if he does the offense is weaker this season and that was their strength and when you add the fact that they have to travel to Pittsburgh and Boston in December I have them dropping this season. New York have got some pieces and if Fileds can get some protection from the O-line then maybe he could do something with what he has but on the evidence I have that is a longshot. The Patriots will improve this season, if from nothing else but at the head coaching position. The QB showed some good signs in his rookie year and if he can become a little more consistently good, this team has the ability across the field to grab a wild card. i think they will be in a group of seven or eight teams fighting for the three wild card slots.

AFC North.
Standings: Baltimore 12-5 Pittsburgh 7-10 Cincinatti 7-10 Cleveland 2-15
Overview: Can not see anyone but Baltimore getting out of this division. Pittsburgh and Cincinatti have lost squad members and they have a schedule full of teams I think can improve such as Denver and Arizona. Pittsburgh does usually go well within the division and that will hold them in good stead if that continues, but Cincinatti has a poor record within the division. If Rodger's can be a passable QB Tomlin could keep his winning season record going but That Cincinatti defence is diabolical and Burrow will need to be superman to get them into the playoffs, and starting a season well would also help. Cleveland are in for a painful season and they will struggle to even get the two wins I have given them.

AFC South
Standings: Houston 10-7 Tennessee 8-9 Jacksonville 7-10 Indianapolis - 3-14
Overview: Houston should make it back to back division titles. Jacksonville have added some quality pieces through the draft and free agency but it will take time for them to gel and while they have relatively easy schedule they still need to show me they can operate as one unit. This is make or break for Lawrence, he needs to reach his potential level or he might be looking for a new home. Indianapolis are in huge trouble at QB. Last seasons offense was not great anyway and this uncertainty will see them have a troubled season, which could cost the head coach and GM their jobs. Tennessee have the same issue coming into this season losing a heap of close games. The record I have them at will obviously depend a lot on the QB but he has good solid players in the secondary (no stars but they can do their job), and he has top 8 Running Back who can take some pressure off his passing game. It will all come down to their start to the season. The first 9 weeks leading into their bye week sees them face some teams who should improve and some who are as skilled as them so while they will probably not start favorite for any of those nine games, they do have the ability to win all of them!

AFC West
Standings: Kansas City 12-5 Denver 10-7 LA Chargers 10-7 Las Vegas 6-11
Overview: While I have the status quo continuing, Denver for mine is a real threat here. They have bolstered and already strong defense and if Nix can continue his rise with the natural improvement and having had that season under his head coach, this team could go on a run. The Chargers are on the same upward spiral, but for mine the head coach is a draft and free agency season away for having the team he can take to the playoffs. Herbert is like Trevor Lawrence he needs a huge season to fulfil his potential. Not saying LA will move him on if he does not but he needs to turn potential into actual success soon. I have some time for Las Vegas. They have genuine top level players, but they have the same issue as Tennessee, they need to convert close losses into wins. If they can do that I would not be surprised if they can sneak a wild card spot with the former Seahawk duo leading the way.

NFC
NFC East
Standings: Philladelphia 14-3 Washington 10-7 Dallas - 5-12 New York Giants 0-17
Overview: Clearly the best team in the NFC here and they should grab another division. I know the sophomore syndrome may hit Jayden but until it does I can see no reason why the Redskins will not continue challenging for a play offs berth. Not sure what Jerry Jones has been smoking, but moving your best player on does not make you a better team (just ask Pittsburgh who paid TJ Watt). Dallas were already in a down season but they may actually get a higher draft pick next year. I apologise to any Giants fans but have you seen their schedule. Not only do they have the Eagle and redskins twice each, but they then face the 49ers, Chiefs, Chargers, Green Bay, Denver and Detroit. They could beat the Raiders, Vikings and New England but I would not bet on it.

NFC North
Standings: Green Bay 12-5 Detroit 12-5 Minnesota - 9-8 Chicago 8-9
Overview: This is the most exciting division in the league with huge questions on most teams. can Detroit have the success they have had in previous seasons with two new co-ordinators. Can Jordan Love continue to improve or is he at his level, which is still good enough for play off runs and can the young players in the Packers team continue their improvement. Will Caleb Williams move past his fellow draft QB's, and will the rookie in Minnesota be as capable as the veteran who grabbed the team 14 wins last season. Anything could happen here, but the one thing everyone does acknowledge is that Green Bay become a better team with Parsons hitting Wisconsin. He could become one of the most beloved Packers if he can add that last piece to a Superbowl contender.

NFC South
Standings: Tampa Bay 12-5 Atlanta 8-9 New Orleans 3-14 Carolina 2-15
Overview: I have watched Tampa Bay in the preseason and yes I know that usuallu means nothing, but I think they have built up their depth and I am seeing Baker go on a run this season. Atlanta have some very nice pieces in place. It should be enough to overcome their Tennessee and Las Vegas sickness of losing close games, will it be enough to make the play offs, not sure as a lot of NFC teams have improved as well. New Orleans have about two more seasons to go to fully recover from their salary cap pressures while Carolina could shock some but Bryce needs to show me he can be good from the beginning of a season and not just grab some meaningless wins late in the season.

NFC West
Standings: San Francisco 11-6 Arizona 9-8 LA Rams 9-8 Seattle 8-9
Overview: This is the hardest division for me to pick. San Francisco have lost some significant pieces especially on the defensive side. I can see them being in huge trouble if the get injuries again. Arizona are poised for a shot at the division. The problem is the o-line and giving Kyler a little more protection. I like their defense, they have pieces on the offence but the o-line needs to protect the main man so he can get the weapons the ball. The Rams are in the same boat as the 49ers they have an aging roster which is injury prone which leaves their depth to be exposed. Seattle is no slouch, but I just want to see how Darnold fits in to a new system away from Minnesota before I say they can do some damage.

Keenan Allan is still on most fantasy reject lists.
I suspect he will be snapped up very quickly after that game. Chicago wasted him.
Nice to see Kansas be beaten for a change. But a few of those Mahomes throws were quite epic.

Was a bit of a clunky performance from the great man...especially in his connections with Metcalf, who was also very clunky catching the ball...but Pittsburgh got the job done in the end.
I suppose a team who was led by old Big Ben for so many years isn't all that fazed by Rodgers' age.
But this new trend of kickers attempting 60 yard FGs is changing the face of the game. If your kicker is not capable of potting them from at least fifty yards...he's not worth having in the team.

Yeah Miami are in more trouble than even I thought jj and if Tyreek gets his wish they will be useless offensive wise.
Okay so what did we learn from week 1.
1. We learned that the Eagles are still good, but we get a better guide on that in week 2. Dallas offense looked okay and the defense looked better than expected so if they stay healthy they could get more than the five weeks I predicted.
2. Kansas City will still be a play off team but they will need to improve to win the division this season. The Chargers looked very good for the whole 60 minutes and Herbert showed very good game management which could see his performance improve significant.
3. Arizona looked good in patches but they will need to improve to have a post season run. The Saints are in for a long season.
4. Not much happening in the Panthers Jags game but Lawrence and his offense did look as though they had improved but that was against Carolina and I will reserve my judgement until I see them take on a high level defense.
5. Tampa nearly squandered a good effort by losing but they showed that they are still the dominant force in that division. Should sweep the falcons now and beat the other two division mates, and that will set up their 12 wins for the season. Atlanta still falling short looks like it will be a season long thing, once again. They do have a good offense but that defense will be the poor side of their effort.
6. It looks like Tomlin's non losing season streak will continue. Rodgers played well but they did only just get over the top of the Jets so I am not as enamoured of the performance as others are. The Jets were not terrible but their history tells me it is downhill from here, I could be wrong.
7. Cincinatti looked as though they will be struggling once again. That defence was almost nonexistent against a lacklustre offense.
8. Miami are in huge trouble. The defence made the Colts offense look like the number one offense in the league. Their offense was very underwhelming and that is with Tyreek Hill there, if he is traded the offense will become almost irrelevant. The Colts looked good but I think any other team in the league would have looked good against the Dolphins.
9. Geno led Vegas to a well deserved win, and they looked more balanced against an admittedly disappointing Patriots defence. New England have a long way to go to be a better team than last season, but not giving up yet.
10. Washington looked like a team that will warm into the season. Good enough to dominate the Giants, but their real test comes this week when they take on Green Bay. The Giants looked inept offensively and the talk is that Russ Wilson is not long for the bench.
11. I see everyone is saying Denver looked poor against the Titans, I suppose that is also due to the Titans not being looked at as string competition. I disagree. I thought Cam Ward looked satisfactory in the first three quarters, especially as his o-line allowed him to get sacked six times. Tony Pollard was doing a great job until Denver's vaunted defence stepped up and the Broncos only scored two touchdowns themselves so the Titans defence was not bad.
12. San Francisco got the win, but they also won the injury lottery with three huge injuries affecting them over the next four weeks at least. Seattle showed they are not a bad team but that division is tough and I still think they do not make the play offs from this division, although the 49er's injuries do make it easier.
13. Green Bay looked sensational in Wisconsin. The Lions have had a good recent record at Lambaugh, but they were totally dominated from start to finish. The doubts about the Lions during the off season were brought to light here. They are going to miss the two departed co-ordinators and while they faced to my eye the logical NFC favorite, they will find this season a real struggle and no surprise if they missed the post season.
14. I thought both the Rams and Texans played below their best. It has now been a season and one game since we saw CJ Stroud's best, was his rookie year the anomaly, or can he get back to his best. Are the Rams the real deal or not? Jury is still out.
15. Best game of the week and we took two things from Baltimore. Buffalo is a quality team on both sides of the ball. Baltimore are still finding ways to lose big games against quality opposition.
16. Are Chicago a play off quality team? On the week 1 performance I would say no, but They showed signs of being a good team so we will reserve the judgement. Minnesota looked dreadful in the first 3 and a half quarters, but JJ McCarthy got going late and the offense looked awesome when he started sticking his passes. he will not lead the Viking to 14 wins but they can win 10.
MVP of the Week: Many contenders here. J-LO led the Packers well. Trevor Lawrence was very good against the other No.1 draft QB, and Josh Allen led his team well in the final 8 minutes. Rodgers turned the clock back. Geno Smith was good for the Raiders, however for me the first MVP for this season was Justin Herbert. For all his talent, biometrics and skill he has not had a great career so far. In Brazil he played the perfect game against Mahomes. Got a lead and did what all QB's need to do in the 4th quarter against him and keep possession. The defence then did their job by stifling the Chiefs offense when they got possession. By far and away Herbert's best 60 minute performance in his NFL career.
Best Team Performance of Week 1: I do not think there is any doubt here, the motherloving Green Bay Packers were so far in front of anyone else it is daylight second. Ominous performance and show of strength for the rest of the league.
Need To improve: Obviously I could have placed Miami, Carolina, New Orleans, Cleveland or Giants here, but I have gone for Detroit. They had questions over their season, and off their week 1 performance they are in for at least some teething issues with their new coordinators. Goff had a bad game with turnovers and while they were up against a team who will no doubt be in superbowl contention.

Eagles beat Chiefs 20-17
The Chiefs used to win all the close ones.
"The percentage of Super Bowl winners who started the regular season 0-2
is very low. Since 1990, only three teams have won the Super Bowl after
starting 0-2: the 1993 Dallas Cowboys, the 2001 New England Patriots,
and the 2007 New York Giants. This means only about 1.1% of teams that
start 0-2 have gone on to win the Super Bowl. In total, three teams out
of 279 that started 0-2 have won the Super Bowl since 1990, which is
approximately 1.1% of such teams."

What percentage of NFL teams that start 0-3 make the playoffs?Falling
to 0-3 makes the odds far worse than open 0-2. Of the 162 teams that
have started 0-3 since 1990, only four (2.5%) made the playoffs. Of
those, only two (1.2%) won their divisions and none reached the Super
Bowl. https://www.si.com/nfl/what-percent-of-nfl-teams-make-the-playoffs-after-starting-0-2" rel="nofollow - https://www.si.com/nfl/what-percent-of-nfl-teams-make-the-playoffs-after-starting-0-2

Hardly. It takes me about two hours a week to pick my teams and check results.
I play games of cards against the computer more than I do fantasy.
I write. I cook. I play Fishdom (I'm up to level 14,000 on my daughter's game). I read. I clean the house...reluctantly...lol. I feed the lorikeets. I have a small garden on my balcony and one in our sunroom, of which I take care.
I watch old movies. I reply to emails from my readers. I talk on-line to friends all over the world. I share jokes with the daughter who lives with me. My other daughter rings me on the way home from work every day. Sometimes we have a nice conversation. Sometimes we argue.
I watch youtube videos of current events and the late show with Steven Colbert. I have the news on most of the day so I do not miss what is happening, generally. I watch multiple football games from three codes. I play against nine young men in an AFL draft league, plus I play general AFL supercoach.
And I still occasionally get bored.

Anything to kill the time until summer...when I might be able to get away and swim in a pool. That will depend on my knee being stable again.
My daughter wants to go back to Brissie...to Southbank.
Tomorrow I might go with her...with a huge brace on my knee...to have her fortnightly eczema injection at Edgecliff. Thursday, she has a specialist appointment at the hospital. Not sure my knee would want to walk that long POW corridor, so she might have to go alone this time.
Why do I get bored?

Dropping like flies jj, with Jimmy Kimmel being eliminated overnight. Never thought he was much chop anyway so no loss as far as I see, although it looks like Donald's right hand man in the FCC is doing a great Big Brother imitation.
Week 2 saw some significant performances and news.
A few QB's dropped, with the major one being Joe Burrow for basically the season (it is twelve weeks but the Bengals are not playing play offs so that is the season). JJ McCarthy was another who was injured, and Jayden Daniels is doubtful for new week.
The usual mixing of early form hit, with some teams such as Jacksonville for instance, dropping in performance. The Jags should have won their match but they just seem to not have connection between Trevor and his receivers.
The biggest shocks of the early season have been Indianapolis who have started 2-0 with Indiana Jones, showing his New York adventure was like searching for the Holy Grail, fruitless. That leverage penalty could haunt Denver as this was a win before the season and that division is tough.
The Eagles won the game against their Superbowl opponents, but the questions on the Chiefs secondary is huge. They really need their suspended receiver back quick smart. Kelce looks cooked and no Worthy either has shown they have very low depth in that receiving core.
Tampa Bay have not played any superbowl contenders but they look like they could make that deep play off run I mentioned in my review, that is if Baker can keep cooking for the rest of the season.
The Dolphins defence showed no resistance when the Patriots caused a rare occurrence and won in Florida.
Dallas and the Giants played a game that had everything, but maybe not defence as the Cowboys squeezed out an uninspiring victory. Just like to point out that Russell Wilson threw for his highest yards in a match.
Both Pittsburgh and Minnesota came crashing back to Earth as the Steelers got found out by Seattle and Minnesota could not handle the Falcons offense and could not find any offense themselves.
The Chargers beat the Raiders but it was not as good an effort as their first match of the season, but they did have to travel back from Brazil, so at least they won.
Green Bay looked every bit a Superbowl contender as they dominated the Commanders (I can not tell you how much I hate that name HATE, HATE, HATE). I was not upset because jj your team is the ebst in the league right now. Detroit showed you can bounce back from a loss to the Packers with a stomping of their former offensive co-ordinators crew as they walloped the Bears, who look like being off season champs once again. How can a fan base in a major city put up with such ineptness in a major sports team. Maybe talk to the Clippers and Mets fans!
And finally Buffalo and Baltimore resumed usual transmission as they did not get out of second gear against division rivals the Jets and Browns respectively.
MVP Award Week 2: I did not have many victories down to one person, so the winners were mostly team efforts on both sides of the ball, so the winner this week was not a dominant head and shoulders above the rest, but he was clutch when his team needed it, congrats Baker Mayfield. I have always been a fan of his. I loved his work at Cleveland, and thought that ownership did him bad through his injuries. Has found a real home in northern Florida and I like the team around him. They have no superstars in their positions but they are a team of very very good starters who do their job and let their leader come in late for the victory. Am liking the way the Bucs are trending!
Best Team Award Week 2: I suppose after what I said above it should be Tampa, but their defense has room to improve and while they have won they have beaten Atlanta who they have dominated the last few seasons and a so far disappointing Houston. Green Bay look like being contenders for this award every week so we will give them their flowers another week. In the end I went with Detroit. With all sorts of doubts (including from myself), the arrival of your former offensive co-ordinator and a head coach and QB under immense pressure to get a home opener win against a hated division rival, Goff St Brown and all the guys showed they are not quite dead and buried just yet. While Chicago may not be as good as we all thought they would be, at least not yet, the Lions really bounced back with good all round performance.
Under Pressure Award Week 2: While a lot of the media in the US are saying Kansas City, I will not lower myself to that, although if the Giants beat them well that is another story. I am going to go with Chicago. This week 3 match up against the Cowboys at Soldier's Field, will show us what they are made off. Huge pressure on all the QB, head coach, the co-ordinators and the defense. They take on a team who have shown they are a good solid team, but not a play off contender. They are coming off a humiliating, dominant defeat against a division rival, and they allowed another division rival to come late and snatch a week 1 win due to poor defense. The ownership did the right thing and spent the money to recruit pieces, and of course a new head coach. The offense has looked solid at points during games but the defense need to stop the opposition, especially the passing game, which they have not done in the last five quarters of the first two weeks. This is a huge match for both teams. If Dallas can go 2-1 that would be a great start for a team who it was thought would not contend and who pushed the Superbowl champs and just squeezed past the Giants. Pressure right on everyone in the Chicago franchise.

Okay last week was a disaster with teams showing they are not genuine good teams and teams such as Green bay and the young guys in that team reading their own headlines and taking an opponent to easy.
I trust that the Packers will not make that mistake this week as they travel to Texas to show the Arlington attendees what a real team is like!

Los Angeles Rams to beat Indianapolis by 6. San Francisco to beat Jacksonville by 4. Baltimore to beat Kansas City by 3. Las Vegas to beat Chicago by 3. Green Bay to beat Dallas by 10. Alright my big move is over so lets hope we have no more interruptions.
What did we learn from this week.
1. No team is a standout. Any Given Sunday is not just a phrase now.
2. Some of the invincibles look mortal. Mahomes and the Chiefs Houdini wins have now turned around. Allen needs his defense to do its job and the Ravens are not a good team, without Jackson they are a mediocre team at best.
3. We are getting into a part of the season where those who are going to make a run are hitting their straps. New England, Indianapolis and Tampa are all on the improve.
MVP of the Week: There were several candidates here. Dak Prescott had his best performance of the season, both C.J Stroud and Jayden Daniels returned to their rookie season form, however I came up with a guy who I never ever would have thought as a MVP recipient. Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle. Not much happening in the first quarter, but his effort for the Panters was outstanding and showed level 1 potential. His meters after first contact were sensational and he was a big influence in not only scoring but also keeping the team moving forward. If he can add that running game to Young's improving passing, the Panthers offense will cause problems.
Team of the Week: Again we had several candidates, Dallas were good but that was against the Jets. New England showed their real potential in a top win over division rivals the Bills and the Panthers took a quarter to warm up but when they did they added to Miami's dismal season. However I went with a team that I would have never thought would sin this award but here we are, Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence had his best game, ever. The secondary were spot on and in the final quarter when the Jaguars usually fold in situations like this their defense did what all teams wish to do with Mahomes, they kept the ball away from him, they smothered the secondary and made their own plays with the ball. All in all Duval should be very proud of their soldiers and the team has given their followers hope. This division is shaping as a more difficult one than I thought with Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Houston showing great signs for the future.

You've forgotten Denver Voyager, going into Philly and turning a 17-3 deficit at the start of the final 1/4 and coming out 21-17 winners is some effort, I'd suggest a bigger win than that of Jacksonville who at least had the comforts of home when turning the Chiefs over and also considering that KCs form isn't that hot this season so far.

They were contenders Afros, but while their performance was good, I thought the Eagles allowed the Broncos to sustain that comeback.
Jacksonville needed a lot of things to happen to come over the top of the Chiefs and in past seasons they would have messed up one of those things (as it was Lawrence stumbling before that last touchdown showed what they usually do, but Lawrence recovered with help from his o-line). All in all a great team effort.

I think the scriptwriters for the NFL are on strike this season. Let us see what WEEK 10 has in store for us.
Denver to beat Las Vegas by 9. Indianapolis to defeat Atlanta by 6. Cleveland to defeat New York Jets by 12. Minnesota to defeat Baltimore by 3. Carolina to defeat New Orleans by 12. Chicago to defeat New York giants by 3. New England to defeat Tampa Bay by 4. Buffalo to defeat Miami by 16. Houston to defeat Jacksonville by 3. Seattle to defeat Arizona by 10. L.A.Rams to defeat San Francisco by 6. Detroit to defeat Washington by 10. L.A Chargers to defeat Pittsburgh by 9. Green Bay to defeat Philadelphia by 6.
Just before I go a huge trade by the Indianapolis Colts to show they are all in this season as they trade two first round draft selections to gain Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets and strengthen their d-line.
Some media person said the Jets now have 9 first round picks over the next two drafts. That is some heavy chips they can play!
