Don't want to clog up Danny Boys thread.

Dim Tim went on Neil Mitchell this morning (not biased I'm sure) to put forward his sob story. Claimed he hadn't eaten much that day...he was out for dinner...and only had a couple glasses of wine...blew 0.131

Must've skipped dinner all together then smashed "a couple" wines in the 5 minutes before he left.

Why doesn't he try on the excuse Kenneth ( my son is the Police Minister you know, hick Beer) Grant is using?

'Mr Grant has argued he was sleepwalking at the time or was experiencing temporary memory loss as part of a condition known as transient global amnesia. He has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death, and not stopping during a police pursuit."

From our mate PR GUY

TIM SMITH has publicly challenged Matthew Guy by announcing he will not be following the wishes of the Victorian Liberal leader by resigning. Mr Guy now faces the challenge of removing Smith by other means to protect his leadership just 12 months out from the election. #SpringSt

Tim Smith has always being a loose cannon. Even though Smith has an Arts Degree in history and politics, caught driving under the influence he was always a goner, however if he had fallen down some stairs in a private residence he would not be subject to such probity.

Unfortunately for Tim he drunkenly drove his car into another car and fence/house then blew 0.131, almost 3 times the legal limit.

You can’t distinguish between illegally driving and putting the general public at risk, and slipping on stairs in a private residence?

Anyone remember last year when Tim Smith said Annaliese van Diemen should resign because of a tweet she made about Covid and Captain Cook?

He now won't resign after crashing his car and blowing 0.131.

These guys have no chance of getting into power next election no matter how much Dan screws up.

Talk about a flog.  Dim Smith has made no less than 47 calls for resignation, citing concerns of varying significance, some of which come close, but arguably do not exceed, the severity of “blowing 0.131 after crashing a car into a family house.”  Here's some examples, courtesy of Cam Tyeson of the Pedestrian Group.

November 21, 2016: Smith calls for Safe Schools founder Roz Ward (not an MP) to resign after  https://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/antibullying-advocate-roz-ward-harasses-bystander/news-story/213d135b14bb8d68c826acb7912a4962" rel="nofollow -  of a Trump-supporting agitator at an otherwise peaceful anti-Trump protest at Monash University.

March 1, 2018: Smith called for then-Education Minister James Merlino to pack it in over an alleged foiled “murder plot” involving students at a school in Melbourne’s north.

May 3, 2018: Smith demands the resignation of Treasurer Tim Pallas over alleged porkbarreling surrounding the 2014 election campaign.

September 5, 2018: Smith makes the first of many calls for Dan Andrews to resign, following the release of a stack of documents concerning opposition leader Matthew Guy‘s botched attempt to rezone farmland on Phillip Island, which cost taxpayers $3.5 million in a resultant legal settlement.

March 21, 2019: Smith’s attentions turn back to Treasurer Tim Pallas, calling for him to resign over his dealings with Transurban.

September 30, 2019: Smith calls for Will Fowles to resign after being spotted at the MCC Member’s Bar for the 2019 AFL Grand Final despite being on leave for addiction issues after a drunken incident in a Canberra hotel in which he kicked in a door. He repeats the call another four times.

February 15, 2020: Smith calls for Casey Counciller Sam Aziz to resign, after he voluntarily quits the Liberal Party following extensive evidence of corruption and embezzlement at an IBAC hearing.

May 5, 2020: Smith calls for Deputy CHO Dr Annalise van Diemen to resign after posting a tweet comparing the arrival of COVID-19 in Australia to that of Captain Cook. Van Diemen is subsequently cleared of any code of conduct breach.

July 2, 2020: Smith issues a blanket push for any one of Martin PakulaLisa NevilleJenny Mikakos, or Dan Andrews to resign after hotel quarantine issues in Victoria begin to bubble to the surface.  He repeats the call another three times.

August 4, 2020: Smith calls for then-Health Minister Jenny Mikakos to resign, citing – of all things – the June 2020 Black Lives Matter protests in Melbourne.

September 22, 2020: Smith calls for DHHS Secretary Kim Peake – and, by extension, the entire Victorian public service – to resign.

October 7, 2020: Smith calls for Police Minister Lisa Neville to resign over the hotel quarantine fiasco. The tweet features a bizarre graphic mockup the echoes the US Military’s  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most-wanted_Iraqi_playing_cards" rel="nofollow - October 23, 2020: Smith calls for Dan Andrews to resign for no real reason at all.

October 25, 2020: Smith calls for Dan Andrews to resign again based on some impatient grumbling from former Premier Jeff Kennett.

October 26, 2020: Smith again calls for Andrews to resign after appearing on Sydney radio to claim he is a “habitual liar” who is costing “1,200 jobs a day.”  He repeats the call for his resignation another six times.

February 14, 2021: Smith calls for Andrews to resign, but only after he contacts Gladys Berejiklian and asks her to “send NSW officials” to Victoria to “teach ours how to do it.” Four months later NSW would suffer a COVID outbreak that necessitates a 107-day lockdown. Berejiklian  https://www.pedestrian.tv/news/gladys-berejiklian-resigned-nsw-premier-icac-investigation/" rel="nofollow -  amid ICAC enquiries into alleged corrupt behaviour.

February 22, 2021: Smith again uses the 801 deaths from the Victorian second wave as a reason to call for Andrews’ resignation. 655 – or 82% total – of those deaths come from aged care facilities, which are a Federal responsibility.

March 17, 2021: Smith calls for Minister for Veterans Affairs Shaun Leane to resign, after Leane suggests that some MPs use ANZAC Day as a political exercise to “get a selfie and look sad.” Which is probably not entirely untrue.

May 26, 2021: Smith stops short of calling for Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp to resign directly, but gives the vague allusion that “many business leaders are hoping” she will.

June 2, 2021: Back on Andrews, Smith not only calls for Andrews to resign but makes an obtuse reference to Andrews suffering another catastrophic back injury.

August 19, 2021: Smith calls on Victorian COVID Commander Jeroen Weimar to resign after he says rudimentary statistics of COVID-19 cases amongst Melbourne’s Orthodox Jewish community out loud.

Of course Tim Smith should be condemned and kicked out of parliament for his intemperate behaviour,  but is there another rule for others who are also involved in traffic offences ? Does anyone recall the mysterious failure to breath test Mrs Andrews when she  collided with a cyclist whilst driving a motor vehicle ? Yep. Could explain why he thought he could drive home. What amazes me is that presumably top lawyers have told him to stick to hia "couple of wines, thought I'd be alright" story. And the whole "worst decision/ moment in my life" bit. Makes you wonder about the types that go through the lower level courts. This guy will get a wet lettuce leaf slap on the wrist.

Surely since his reading went into the mid-range of drink driving, he'll have trouble convincing any magistrate that he simply misjudged his level of intoxication after a couple of wines, in fact according to Vic roads website itself he faces the following.

  • receive a fine
  • have your licence or learner permit cancelled
  • be disqualified from driving for at least 10 - 14 months
  • need to complete a Drink Driver  https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/demerit-points-and-offences/behaviour-change-programs" rel="nofollow - Behaviour Change Program
  • have an  https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/demerit-points-and-offences/drink-and-drug-driving-offences/how-to-install-the-interlock" rel="nofollow - alcohol interlock  for a minimum of six months imposed by VicRoads
  • have a zero BAC requirement for a minimum of three years

https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/road-rules/penalties/drink-driving-penalties" rel="nofollow - Drink-driving penalties : VicRoads

Looks like after this, Dim Tim may build the credentials to become the shadow public transport minister?

As he was drunk so no insurance, will cost him at least $100k to start with.
His Jaguar is a write off, the car he hit is majorly damaged, most likely written off
The house he hit requires a structural engineering report to see if it is still safe to live in.
Could cost him potentially a lot more than his job.

More likely to be quietly moved into a chief adviser's job or something like that.

If the LNP govt is returned though, all bets are off.

The Victorian election isn't due till well after the federal election so unless he resigns early to be parachuted into a seat(almost zero chance) they are talking about 3 years time. Plenty of time to be politically rehabilitated.

The VEC is supposed to be independent from government yet they issue a letter to Andrew Bogart, the former champion basketballer,  because he criticised on social media the Victorian ALP government and the three crossbenchers  who supported the passing of draconian COVID legislation last year .

I see there is growing support for Andrew Bogut's stance following the letter he received from the Victorian Electoral Commission after he criticised the ALP Andrews government on social media. From entertainers, to AFL footballers, to the man-in-the-street all agree VEC's warning to Bogut was "very wrong ".
It has been suggested Daniel Andrews media monitors, of which there many with not much to do, made this happen because they are doing their best to stifle free speech.

And the Australian nursing and midwifery federation response.

Coalition’s health care fantasy is insulting and exposes lack of knowledge

Nurses and midwives are outraged at Victorian Coalition Leader Matthew Guy’s hypocrisy and ignorance about how the Victorian public health system is staffed.

Coalition Leader Matthew Guy incorrectly claims in his op-ed in the ‘The Age’ today that Victoria has the country’s worst staffed hospitals despite NSW nurses and midwives striking last month to achieve Victoria’s shift-by-shift nurse/ midwife patient ratios.

PT, that release is attributed to the Nurses and Midwives "federation" , which is actually Australia's largest national union and professional nursing and midwifery organisation .U

Facts are facts:

Coalition Leader Matthew Guy incorrectly claims in his op-ed in the ‘The Age’ today that Victoria has the country’s worst staffed hospitals.

Victoria is amongst the best staffed health systems in the nation – legislated, mandated minimum nurse/ midwife patient ratios. The rostering mechanism is also the most efficient and cost effective and prevents short staffing and over-reliance on an expensive agency workforce. This is why surge workforce models must not be in place a day longer in our hospitals than necessary.

Victoria has this enviable staffing system because nurses and midwives stopped the last Victorian Coalition government’s attempt at ‘financial management’ in 2011 with its plan to substitute nurses with unqualified, cheaper nursing assistants to save (money).

Six years later, on 20 September 2018, the Coalition voted against working past midnight, ensuring that the Andrews Government’s ratio improvement amendment bill could not be passed before the end of its first term of government.

Suspect he's still in shock, bless him, after a per-head $110 for the three course and grog at Chez Bob's.  Which is clearly more than reasonable for snails, fish stew, burnt custard and an inconspicuous French champers.

More to the point Matthew Guy has been well and truly caught with his pants down, evoking Murphy's Law, possibly a hangover from his $200 per-head dine-in with alleged criminals at the truly abysmal Lobster Cave restaurant.

$1.38 to flap his ears. I would take those odds, although it might be difficult to flap one's ears.

Animal Justice Party MP Andy Meddick witnessed the flare-up, while venue manager Rupert Shaw confirmed a staff member was distressed after the exchange with the veteran Liberal, who Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said on Thursday was on his final warning.

Mr Shaw said Mr Davis then ordered a glass of an expensive wine that could only be ordered by the bottle. “He complained about this and gave the impression he was a person of importance and this should be done for him,” he said.

The background aerial shot used was of a road in the Ukraine taken from a stock video
