Anyone here have an insight? Is there much difference in the main things you look at in comparison to thoroughbreds ? Angle of patterns etc?

I'm sure if you google & compare photos of many champions, you'll begin to see commonalities. The nicest & closest to TB conformed horse I saw was the G. Rothacker trained little champ, Archibald. God he was to die for! | Standardbreds are normally straighter in the shoulder than thoroughbreds and tend to have a more upright neck set . They have much more bone in the legs too . And a much more steadier temperament normally. |

Funny (or perhaps offensive) story. Had a girlfriend years ago who used to call harness racing disabled racing as she thought the sulky looked like someone sitting in a wheelchair.

I was in a pub one day, with sky racing in the background. A pommie backpacker almost popped a valve when Wagga trots came on. Just screaming to his mates, they’re on chariots! Come and watch the chariot races….

| My experience with Standardbreds goes right back to when I was 16 and very young and silly. I’d saved an 8 year old Anglo- Arab stallion from the doggers without really thinking about what I was going to do with an 8 year old stallion in my parents suburban back yard. To cut a long story short I ended up giving him to the big Standardbred Stud at Luddenham as a teaser. They loved him there . He was the best teaser they’d ever had they reckoned. Their main stallion was called Liberace Hanover . They called my boy Jamie Redfern! |
