Am really looking forward to this sale, and with any luck might be able to secure 5 or 10% shares in one or two.

Just re the newbies:

. Thought Merchant Navy and Russian Revolution have been soft in the marketplace so far, so is there a bargain or two to be had at Oaklands?  Have marked three down.
. A couple by the UK/NZ shuttler Time Test yearlings look interesting.
. And believe there's a few nice Impending lots also.

Over to others.

Well it seems...

Anyway I've emailed six trainers expressing interest in five particular yearlings should they be the successful bidders.  The office/marketing personnel of three have thus far responded to my correspondence.

Thanks ladies.

Furious, have a look at Lot 307 from the 2020 MM Adelaide catalogue (Frosted - Gloray), and compare her female family with the above fellow.  The Adelaide filly sold for just $18,000 and we were quick to buy a 10% share in her.  I really believe, given Frosted's early success, that if offered today she would have brought $150,000.

VSP, you'll very very nearly the first person to know when the colt is ready to go off.  Wink

Griffiths/De K pay $180k for Lot 203.  No black type in the first two removes and just one NZ Listed winner in the third.

Just one example of more than a few inexplicable purchases imo.

Griffiths trains for the breeder and the auctioneer said the horse has had colic last week (pretty sure this was the one).
Breeder will probably buy back in you'd think.

Lot 244.  Running family but not a single stakes horse in the first three removes, and yet they run it up before passing in for $190k.

So totally predictable, though in truth someone will probably pay the required $200k.

Imo (and apparently others) disappointing based on opportunity thus far mate, and at $44k a serve in 2018 vendors are hurting big time at Premier.

That he's leading the 2nd Year sires list is no real biggie because his AEI is way below the three immediately below him, as his stakes-winners to runners ratio.

Needs a headliner sooner rather than later.

I put a cracking Pride of Dubai colt in my Stable last year in the comp. Hawkes bought him for good money at Easter at 290K, but i thought he was well worth it.

His name is now Saif and he won narrowly but well at Ballarat on debut. He is in the VRC Sires this Saturday. Big ask, but who knows, this may be the horse that the market seems to think POD needs.

Wasn't interested in Lot 256 with no black type until the 3rd remove but had another look after it was bought by Danny O'Brien for $200k.

And saw the 1st dam was by Savabeel, the 2nd by Pins, the 3rd by O'Reilly and the 4th by Centaine.  How textbook NZ can you get?!

Then saw he was line bred top and bottom to successful sire and broodmare sires Snippets and Success Express.

Will follow this fellow with interest

I googled 'blood spots' as the expression rang a bell. Thanks TJ, you must be there Thumbs Up

Blood markings are represented by big red or brown (rarely black) spots and are found only in gray horses. Typically blood markings are found on the horse's shoulders, but sometimes on other parts of the body, as well. Blood markings can appear as a cluster of spots that form a colored area that doesn't turn gray with age.

Many similarities with Zabeel SC, I think they were well and truly 3Yo's before he slipped into gear, my lifelong mate and yours truly had a massive argument at about the same stage in Zabeel's career, and I have never let him forget every time we get together on how wrong he was, in fact at least 370 times wrong

The Impendings seem to be selling very well so far.  Siyouni is another big winner amongst the newcomers.  Almanzor did well, with 3 of 4 sold and two of those being well into 6 figures.

I'm still Confused at the Shalaa sales prices.  #226 sold for $700,000 with no blacktype until the 3rd dam.  (You could buy a Snitzel out of Bollinger daughter for less than half that.)  Meanwhile #380, half to three stakes-placed horses and whose dam's progeny earnings exceed half a million, sold for $130,000.  #252 must have had something wrong with either the x-rays or the scope, to have a page like his and to actually be overtracking at the walk as a yearling and to only sell for $80,000.

And I would not want to be trying to sell a Brazen Beau, ouch.

It was amusing to watch the newer Vic staff and especially the Sydney staff look dumbfounded mid afternoon yesterday, as an elderly couple took a seat in the front public rows and over a 30 minute period unload a cool $ half million on 3 lots. There were a few stunned mullet looks
Fact of the matter Graeme Gathercole of Graebar Park bought very well indeed. His purchases looked absolute runners and no doubt Jerome Hunter will maximize their potential

Why do you say that Second Chance because he is bred to stay ?

If a stayer is going to be good good trainers will know it pretty soon.

Most good stayers are up and about as 2 year olds and certainly at 3 so we will only have to wait about 18 months.

About an 80% clearance rate thus far.

Lot 395 by Brazen Beau from a nice European female family sells for just $40k.  Rather long in the pasterns and not sure about how she places her hind feet, but must surely have an ordinary X-ray or scope.  Might just give Henry Dwyer a call.

heard them talking about the sales on RSN -  in general all are down . Magic Millions according to them were up in the top 25th percentile however bottom 75% were down as per the other sales. Basically stating that now that people are travelling etc the market for buying and investing in horses has taken a hit. When compared to 2019 they  are still way in front.
