Nice horse. Nothing behind him today beats him in the Guineas, so he is the logical fav for mine. Did it pretty easy today. Had a bit on that lot.

I must have watched a different race. He had 3 1/2 lengths on Dalasan at the top of the straight and beat him by 3/4 of a length. I know who the logical fav will be come the Guineas.

As an aside, just great to see a really nice bloke like Ryan Maloney turn it around big-time in more ways than one.  Thumbs Up

Agree Dalassan should be favourite - but Alligator Blood will have a lot more improvement to come, only 2nd up today after over a month since his first run. Dalassan had the fitness edge on him today.

Had him anchor quite a few legs on Saturday and didn't think we'd get $4, let along $5.80.

I do like this guy and GROUNDSWELL for the Guineas.

Kingy, just a word of warning.

The Caulfield Guineas winner has not done the double since Helmet in 2011.

This pattern is very significant because every prelude winner has run, but has been unable to do the double. A couple have placed but it is not a good record for the winners of the prelude.

It seems that since its switch the Stan Fox has become a good guide along with the Stutt Stakes, but again not the winner.

Marvelous female family and great up top too.

Pedigree suggests 1600m absolute tops and believe he might find the last 200m of the Guineas a hard ask.

Only time will tell.

Marvelous horse, marvelous result.

His sire line is line-bred to Last Tycoon and Rolls, his dam line similarly to Last Tycoon and Rolls.  The latter being the dam and grand-dam of outstanding racehorses and sires Flying Spur and Encosta De Lago respectively.

Huge win today, after all the pre race dramas.   He went past them like they were standing still .  Is great to see All Too Hard get a good one , shame he is a gelding tho.

I disagree AA, I think its a great thing that he’s a gelding!

Look forward to seeing him competing in all the major 1400-1600m races over the next 3 or 4 years. If he were a colt, he’d likely have a handful more starts to get a G1 win in the autumn & be at stud as a spring 4yo.

If we get Catalyst, Alligator Blood an Super Seth at Flemington, what a race.

Very talented galloper, now the trainer needs to decide whether they keep going or he gives him a break.

Yes, that too, from a racing perspective.  Thumbs Up
Just saying it would be nice for ATH to have a good sire son to carry on the line.

He was outstanding, taking into account the delay and the heat he would have endured in the truck, plus the stress of it all.
I must say I didn't give him much hope of finishing the race like he did.

Didn't beat much yesterday, but did it easily, and as mentioned, after the hiccup ... what a record, he just keeps winning ... got a bit out of the race, standing him with the tri and F4, the only thing I thought could get close was scratched.

Nothing better than a tough two-horse war. That was very exciting & thrilling the way AB stretched his neck out close to the line.

And the big bonus is they’re both geldings, so hopefully racing fans get to see these 2 clashing for many seasons to come!

The stewards will have to uphold protests if they wish to stop the excessive whip rule, the jocks have had enough warnings.
Lose a $million dollar race because of excessive use isn’t going to make the offending jock any friends

And luckily for us connections of both horses have turned down huge offers... Not blaming other owners for taking the money but our racing would be so much better if a few more were kept here.

If he were mine, I'd send him for a break now and consider the Kingsford Smith-stradbroke double at home, the All Aged at the of Sydney carnival and/or the Doomben 10k could also come into consideration depending on how he is going.

Bute used to be the routine treatment post race just to settle eveything down asap but given it's safe 9 day withdrawal, may well have been replaced, especially if testing now finds it for longer than the previously stated 9 days.

From the Vandyke thread:

"Great i/view too with the owner on Talking Horses/Jo McKinnon in which the family has gone thru' 20years of hell & his wife now with stage 4 (I think?) bowel cancer + liver + blood Cry so the latest 3.2mill offer was never an option.
He selects his yearlings by singing Sinatra songs & watching for reactions LOL but in the case of AB, was checking out the next door yearling. However, this elicited no response from the target whilst AB gave all the animated signs he looks for so $55k later..........!
The name is from a poker term loosely meaning 'never give up' & refers to the last 20 years of stress (took on the govt. & won)
I think that's about it & I loved the insight."

"The owner said he would not be going anywhere, no matter how much is offered.
He's part of the family who are also involved in equestrian activities, which is what he'll be doing post racing."

On the 3rd of March, Alligator Blood had a full physical by Dr Stuart Vallance including X-rays of his feet, knees and fetlocks. The X-rays revealed no problems whilst the examination identified mild soreness in his hind muscles which is normal coming off the back of such a hard run at the elite level. His coat is good and he is eating well.
He did some ridden work this morning and his track rider, Aaron Mitchell, said his action felt normal. Emma Lehmann, Alligator Blood’s strapper, was very happy with his mental attitude in the stable and at the track. We will treat him during this week with his regular practitioners (chiropractors, physios, etc.) and we are confident to have him in pristine condition for the All Star Mile.

Albury’s favourite son Allan Endresz is bankrupt again . . . but not to worry, he’s got it on appeal (again). In the meantime he wants to tell you about a racehorse.

Alligator Blood is a two-year-old with a rocket-like finish, and a clean leg action that might be modelled on Almost Bankrupt Allan’s own form when chased by pesky creditors.

And now he’s discovered blockchain.

Allan, who is serving out a 14-year ban as a director, is still being pursued by ASIC and the government over a trail of $8.725 million in missing funds from 1998 that Endresz has always made clear he never knew had been embezzled. Criminal charges against him were dismissed.

Yes, his company did end up with the money, but he was the victim here, which is why he spent years suing the government for $4.3 billion compensation. A couple of times in the 21-year pursuit it looked like ASIC and Treasury had finally bankrupted him, only for him to appeal or to open a new legal front that forced bankruptcy proceedings to be suspended.

On March 15 this year Justice Geoffrey Flick made a sequestration order against Endresz for $18.6 million in the ACT Federal Court. Naturally he appealed on April 5, putting himself back in play.

Almost all of his assets are subject to court freezing orders, but a man’s still got to live. The Paradise Papers showed that in a three-month period he spent more than $100,000 on betting and gaming venues, even while he doesn’t own anything. Everything he has is held on trust for a mysterious offshore beneficiary, while he himself, the poor bloke, has nothing.

It’s easy to misunderstand these finer points. Documents from the Paradise Papers showed that he was telling the Capital Security Bank in Rarotonga that he had $50 million of assets in Australia, and he was the owner.

He had an international money transfer business called Ezybonds that came to grief with some unhappy former clients saying some harsh things. The website is “currently offline for extended maintenance”, it says.

But that’s in the past. Now, apart from spruiking the Ezy No. 1 horseracing syndicate that owns Alligator Blood, Allan is working on an exciting new application called Zukaz, with a payment system involving Zucoins, an “augmented reality backed cryptocurrency token”.

Merchants just need to put their faith in an almost-bankrupt who is currently banned from directorships, using an opaque offshore structure, and who says he can’t be held responsible for any debt because it’s not his money. It’s a matter of trust.

“It’s Bitcoin on steroids — without the problems,” he says.

Maybe not for everyone. The picture of Allan on steroids is . . . troubling.

Correction: An earlier version of this story described Mr Endresz as a former insider trader. In fact in 1993 Endresz was convicted of eight counts of price manipulation, market rigging and making a false statement to the ASX, over a $560,000 trade of 4 million Emu Hill Gold shares between two companies he controlled, which lifted the market price by 40 per cent. He was fined approximately $13,000.

Alligator Blood - one of Australia's headline horses - has returned an irregularity to a prohibited substance after the preliminary analysis of a sample taken after one of his biggest wins.

The prohibited substance was altrenogest which has in the past been commonly used to control the reproductive cycle of mares but it is banned in colts and geldings.

However in Victoria and Queensland, trainers have been warned off even using altrenogest on fillies and mares because it contains detectable levels of both trendione and trenbolone (a banned steroid).

While the substance is known a hormone treatment, it can be used to calm an unruly male horse.

Gelding Alligator Blood allegedly returned the irregular test after one of the biggest wins of his career, in the $2m https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/gold-coast" rel="nofollow - Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas in January.

It was the day where Alligator Blood was on a float for four hours on the way to the Gold Coast after being one of several horses stuck on Queensland's M1 motorway after a fuel tanker rollover.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett told Racenet that, regardless about the debate of the use of altrenogest on fillies and mares, the use of the substance on colts and geldings had always been banned.

A statement released by QRIC read:

" https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/sunshine-coast" rel="nofollow - Sunshine Coast Trainer https://www.racenet.com.au/trainer/david-vandyke" rel="nofollow - David Vandyke has today been informed that after preliminary analysis, a post-race sample taken from thoroughbred gelding Alligator Blood after it won the Magic Millions Three Year Old Guineas at the Gold Coast on 11 January 2020, has shown an irregularity to the prohibited substance altrenogest.

"Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards informed Mr Vandyke that the sample has been sent for confirmatory testing at an interstate laboratory."

Racenet contacted Vandyke for comment on the matter and he sent through a pre-prepared statement which read: "I was informed today that Alligator Blood has returned an irregularity to altrenogest after his win on 11 January at the Gold Coast," Vandyke said.

"There is a B sample under review.

"Altrenogest is a drug that has never been used to my knowledge on Alligator Blood or any male horse in our stable.

"It is used in our stable under the brand name Ovumate and is given to some female horses under our care with accurate records kep surrounding administration.

"Those records have been given to QRIC.

"We are in the process of reviewing our security and stable management.

"There will be no further comment as we await the result of the B sample."

Alligator Blood has won 10 from 12 races with his only defeats being a narrow runner-up finish in last year's Group I https://www.racenet.com.au/group-one-races/caulfield-guineas" rel="nofollow - Caulfield Guineas and when finishing 10th as the $2.80 favourite in the All-Star Mile last Saturday.

Earlier this autumn, he won his first Melbourne race in an epic battle against Kiwi Catalyst down the straight in the CS Hayes Stakes before claiming his first Group I win in the https://www.racenet.com.au/group-one-races/australian-guineas" rel="nofollow - Australian Guineas .

Vandyke and owner Allan Endresz have taken the public along for the ride with their horse - doing countless media promotions and interviews in the lead-up to the All-Star Mile.

Endresz, whose wife Joy is dying of cancer, had threatened to scratch Alligator Blood from the All-Star Mile last Friday when officials enforced a fan and owner lockout at https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/vic/caulfield" rel="nofollow - Caulfield due to coronavirus concerns.

But the Melbourne Racing Club organised a nearby function room for the Alligator Blood team to watch the All-Star Mile and the threat to scratch the star galloper was withdrawn.

Alligator Blood is now spelling with connections planning to target a rich payday in the Sydney spring in the $15m https://www.racenet.com.au/the-everest" rel="nofollow - The Everest and the $7.5m Golden Eagle.

A QRIC spokesperson said officials had arrived at Vandyke's Sunshine Coast stable on Wednesday to inform him of the prohibited substance irregularity but that was a routine practice in such circumstances.

A little awkward as altrenogest is banned in every state bar NSW. What exactly is he doing giving it to his mares?

Alligator Blood is transitioning to a mare, nothing to see here.

Depends on the results of the B sample and how much of the substance was detected.  I'm leaning more towards a feed mixup / not using a clean feed bin over malice.  The level of potential performance-enhancing hormones of metabolized altroenogest is really low, and if we're talking trace levels it's most likely a screw-up.

Of course it's a 'stuff up'', or a deliberate act by a disgruntled stablehand, as Dr Geoff Chapman used to say, you can't ever see into the mind of a rogue strapper and you can't stand guard 24/7!

It is not put into feed. In fact people of breeding age are advised to not even get it on their skin. It also can no longer be used outside NSW

Yes it can go in the feed Linghi, read the Paulickreport, from experience we used it via a syringe down the throat, but now it can go in the feed.

To me, this is just more evidence of Australian trainers being cheap.

Some of these nasty horses probably need more then one person to handle them.

The Japanese and European trainers use two strappers to handle their colts rather than geld them.

Our people just use regumate.

Leads to increased costs djebel, might be able to be absorbed by Godolphin, Waller or Maher but the smaller stables would be less able.

Most of Wallers walk around the mounting yard in a robotic trance, so how do you account for that.

What KM said. We'll wait and see.
However, simce the news came out, I've been stumped on this fact: AB is a gelding. Even if he is a bit colty still, I can't fathom how this drug could possibly enhance his performance. Over to you experts...

15 acceptors for the Mornington Cup, of them 11 are imports , 1 a 9y/o bull from Japan who hasn't won since 2017, 10 are geldings from U.K. or EU. 4 are locals , we won't count them as we geld them irrespective of bloodline , its NSW racings fault if trainers are using loophole, Mr Peters likes the idea too.

Yes, djebel, of course the Japanese far prefer entires. They don't need to find a home for them after racing, FOC, & the abattoirs pay top dollar for lean horse meat, one of their favourite dishes.

The Ferdinand story is one of racing's saddest and controversial as his demise and disgraceful end proved the ruthlessness and cruelness of the Japanese trainers/owners/breeders..

They revere their champion horses, but the vast majority end up on plates in restaurants, I know it happens, but as I spent a lot of time in Japan with our travel business, I got to know or learn rather, that the huge crowds they attract have little knowledge of the sad end awaiting the majority of horses up there. They are so far removed from reality, they gat caught in the moment, in fact I feel sorry for them, as they as a people, love animals, they animate them, it's hard to explain, but racing people are far different than the racing public......

It is always difficult for a trainer who has previously been charged and disqualified for serious drug charges, to be presumed innocent. Maybe his self promoted claim as a horse whisperer is nothing more then a charade, or maybe horses really do talk to him.
Time will tell but his strike rate seems too good to be true. If it walks like a duck?

Anything CAN go in the feed, but why risk it? Horse doesn’t eat up, it’s wasted. Females washing out feedbins come in contact with it? Uneaten feed cannot be repurposed? If you’re going to use a banned substance, why in the world would you put it in feed? But all of this is a moot point as he should not have been in possession of it at all unless he was in NSW or had some broodmares prone to slipping in the stable.

We are far too lax on drugs in racing in Australia.

The fact so many of these banned substances are allowed during training provided they are out of the system by raceday is a big problem.

Lasix should be banned completely. That would bring our biggest stable to its knees.

We have to stop pretending racing is a poor mans game.

How fast does Altrenogest work? Would it, or similar, be in a float driver's 'first aid' kit?

I mean, if I go out bush with the dog and he gets bitten by a snake, if I'm not carrying a shot of vitamin c, then I haven't taken all precautions.

Obviously, the horse would need to be scratched from whatever race he was heading to, but at least he's not doing himself a mischief in the float.

In any case, the timing of the charges is impeccable.

In the 'power' vacuum created from the great mare's retirement, Alligator Blood was quickly crowned as the People's Champ and held the position for the best part of 12 months... then the people realised what a grub his owner is.

Like COVID-19 arriving at the planet's point of no return, the universe is good like that.

NO!! That is what ACE is for. It is in no one’s first aid kit, it’s a steroid. Over weeks or months of use it could quieten the said horse and make him eat more and potentially have a positive effect on muscle mass.

Yes bp, we can all see why steroids are a greatly helpful idea- but they are banned for that very reason. In fact, a few think that our recent supermares were delivered to us by Altrenogest

Used over weeks or months it would become inherent in the horse's metabolism.

A thus display in any number swabs, remembering the gelding has been tested at least twice in Victoria.

It was a term my boss used when I was first apprenticed , mainly when he first arrived at the races, have heard it many times since in stable talk, just a release of urine fwiw.
