I know it’s an oxymoron and all, however this meeting all the head honchos are having re integrity and such, Mr Matt Rudolph is mentioned. Is this the same bloke that was disqualified by the ATC? And, not allowed on a racecourse? Where does he fit in?

https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/toowoombaturfclub?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG" rel="nofollow - - - THE END IS NIGH FOR RACING IN TOOWOOMBA

Well it sure as hell is if Racing Queensland along with members of the Toowoomba Turf Club don’t take control and show Woodford, Gee and Odgers the door.

What a bloody farce!!

How in god's name was Ben Currie allowed to vote for his father at last Thursday’s TTC Special Meeting considering he is 7.5 years disqualified & facing criminal charges?

How were persons allowed into the meeting last week without producing identification at the members register when signing in?

Considering the heated circumstances surrounding this meeting, surely the highly paid TTC CEO Blair Odgers & Chairman Kent Woodford should have had their ducks all in a row.

How on earth can a disqualified racing participant facing criminal charges be allowed to vote, let alone for his father that is currently training under a restricted license after pleading guilty to raceday treatments and training in partnership with his disgraced son.

Ben Currie can’t set foot on the TTC licensed premises yet can vote on such a serious racing and community matter, WTF.

The Chairman & CEO need to explain these clear management and constitutional failures as with the final decision being that close, the result is clearly tainted.

Woodford & Gee have now rushed to have the AGM brought forward in an attempt to sure up their position not only on the Committee but to prevent a re-vote taking place.

All of the Committee along with the CEO should stand down with RQ bringing in an interim administration.

From all reports the meeting was a shambles, an absolute disgrace with personal attacks from individuals, left, right and centre.

Former Deputy Chairman Ken Bullen confirmed this in an ABC interview last Monday morning.

Committee member Lisa Frappell was treated disgustingly by a Currie supporter with no support from the Chair.

At no stage did the Chairman Kent Woodford “call to order” to end the unnecessary personal attacks and heckling by Currie supporters.

If this is the way the Chairman Kent Woodford conducts a meeting then he is clearly not up to the job.

With his conflict of interest along with the remaining committee member Allan Gee, (that is once Kent is finished drinking with the Currie Clan & Allan is finished mucking out Currie boxes), both should be forced by RQ (with the support of the TTC membership) to resign effective immediately.

Last Thursday’s meeting should be declared null & void, the details conveyed to the Office of Fair Trading and a new meeting convened under an independent arbitrator.

And this time have it done by the book!!

David Silver

This is staggering if proven.
A multiple premiership winning trainer allegedly entered the stables of a Group 1 winning trainer recently, and administered treatment to a horse without the trainers knowledge. This will be a career ending action if proven. Major effort underway to cover this up, as Qld racing doesn’t need any more bad publicity. Will update as it goes further.

Senior Brisbane riders Matt McGillivray and Dale Smith will remain sidelined after an inquiry into their failure to give urine samples at Eagle Farm.

Stewards stood the pair down on Saturday and ordered them to provide samples at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday and then front an inquiry on Monday.

Both cited dehydration from wasting and drinking minimal fluids and asked for blood tests to be taken but that option is not available to stewards.

Tests were carried out on all jockeys at Saturday’s Eagle Farm meeting but McGillivray and Smith were unable to provide samples even after stewards gave them until 7pm.

They both produced samples on Sunday.

Chief steward Peter Chadwick said Monday’s Inquiry determined both jockeys would remain stood down until the analyst’s results were returned from Sunday’s tests.

It is understood the test results should be known by the end of the week.

Chadwick said Saturday’s testing was part of a QRIC operation with all jockeys riding at Eagle Farm directed to provide samples within an hour of their last ride.

QRIC Integrity Investigations Team and stewards conducted further testing of riders at Eagle Farm and Doomben trackwork on Monday morning.

Chadwick said as a result of the operation four riders were found to be unlicensed.

Eighteen samples were sent to Racing Analytical Services Limited and two samples taken on Monday will be subject to further testing but no riders were stood down.

Fair point Skippy. Having been ASADA tested on four or five occasions following League matches, I know how difficult this process can be. On my first test, it took over four hours to provide a sample. At no point did ASADA say "it's getting a bit late, let's come back tomorrow".

Stewards meanwhile, will open an inquiry into a sample irregularity from former champion apprentice Tiffani Brooker.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission commissioner, Ross Barnett, said the irregularity was discovered in a sample from Brooker after Integrity officers conducted tests at the Sunshine Coast on August 11.

"Stewards will conduct the inquiry on Thursday," he said.

Brooker is on the comeback trail from injury but has not ridden in a race since August 11.

Qld trainer banned for sample substitution
9 hours ago by AAP
Gold Coast trainer Brad Witt has been disqualified for 12 months for substituting his urine sample during an integrity unit raid at the weekend.

Witt fronted a stewards' inquiry on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to swapping someone else's urine sample for his own at the Gold Coast track last Saturday.

The inquiry heard Witt was riding trackwork when directed to provide a urine sample which he allegedly substituted.

Stewards said they took into account Witt's guilty plea, forthright evidence, his personal circumstances, disciplinary history and penalty precedents.

He was disqualified for 12 months to start on September 25 which would allow Witt to make arrangements for his horses.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission officers have held snap drug and alcohol checks at meetings and trackwork across the state in the past month.

Stewards Report: Tiffani Brooker Date: 19 September 2019
Panel: D Aurisch, J Williamson & C Albrecht
Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards today concluded an inquiry into a report from the analyst that a urine sample provided by licensed Jockey Tiffani Brooker at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on 11 August 2019 contained the prohibited substances Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Oxazepam, Nordiapazem, Temazepam, Ketamine, Norketamine and Dehydroketamine.
Today evidence was taken from Miss Brooker and Mr Glen Prentice the President of the Queensland Jockey’s Association.
Subsequently, Miss Brooker pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 139(1) (a), which reads:
A rider breaches these Australian Rules if a banned substance under 136 (1) is detected in a sample taken from the rider.
The specifics of the charge being that Jockey Brooker did provide a sample of urine at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on 11 August 2019, which contained substances banned under 136 (1) namely Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Oxazepam, Nordiapazem, Temazepam, Ketamine, Norketamine and Dehydroketamine.
In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of Miss Brooker’s guilty plea, forthright evidence, her personal circumstances and penalty precedents. Stewards also considered that a penalty for this breach must serve as a specific deterrent to Miss Brooker and also a general deterrent to the wider industry to illustrate that using illicit drugs will not be tolerated.
Miss Brooker was subsequently disqualified for a period of nine (9) months to commence immediately and to expire at midnight 19 June 2020. Stewards advised Miss Brooker that if she provides details of suitable rehabilitation and counselling that consideration will be given to varying the final three (3) months of her disqualification to a suspension of her licence to ride in races.
Furthermore, Miss Brooker under the provisions of 139 (4) at the expiration of her disqualification must deliver a sample free of any banned substances prior to resuming riding.
Miss Brooker was advised of her rights to an internal review.

HAPPY TO CORRECT THIS IF RUMORS OF STABLE SPLIT ARE INCORRECT

IN the past two days LETSGOHORSERACING has received numerous calls and emails either predicting the dissolution of the newly-formed Chris Anderson/Robert Heathcote training partnership, or telling us that it has already happened.

We find this hard to believe given that the Heathcote Anderson Racing website is still alive and well and pointing punters to the new firm’s upcoming runners over the next few days, and the fact that no-one has said a word suggesting that it may not be so.

But sharp-eyed readers tell us that Heathcote and Anderson have been listed separately rather than together as trainers in recent weeks, and that Anderson Racing has been buying up at auction sales recently in its own name rather than that of the partnership, and on checking we have found that to be true.

Perhaps the independent listings on the Racing Queensland website and in form guides are simply typos or haven't been updated, and that all is well in the stables of the newly joined at the hip combo.

But readers are telling us of rumors that a rift between the pair may have developed in the wake of the Profit/Guntantes race at Eagle Farm last week. As we all know nothing get lost in the tell in racing in Queensland.

To add insult to injury there is also scuttlebutt doing the rounds in Brisbane racing involving the rollover statements of a certain well-known football, running, pizza, earth moving, harness and thoroughbred racing identity turned canary.

It's all just a mystery to everyone at the moment, and LGHR will attempt to get some clarification of the situation so that we can let punters know the lay of the land one way or the other. If it’s incorrect just let us know Robbie and we will be happy to silence the gossips and set the record straight. We just hope it's wrong because the team has been flying and is extremely popular with punters.

Stewards have set the date for the resumption of an inquiry into the Queensland Derby fall which resulted in high-profile jockey Corey Brown suffering serious injuries.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards confirmed the inquiry would resume on October 21 with four jockeys required to attend.

Brown, a dual Melbourne Cup-winning rider, was aboard Lord Arthur who fell at the 300m mark in the Derby at Eagle Farm on June 8.

He suffered injuries to his spine, ribs and lungs and will be out of the saddle for an indefinite period.

New Zealand horse Lord Arthur was euthanised.

An inquiry was opened on the day with evidence taken from several jockeys and then adjourned until a time when Brown was fit enough to attend.

Stewards will call Brown and fellow jockeys Tommy Berry, Matt McGillivray and Tim Clark to give evidence at the inquiry.

Chief steward Peter Chadwick said the priority had been to give Brown time and there had been problems getting all jockeys together.

Haha. Joke of the year. Holiday will start after MC week

Stewards Report: Ben Ahrens – King Luther
Date: 5 September 2019
Panel: D Aurisch, N Boyle & L Hicks
Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards today concluded an inquiry into a report from the analyst that the prohibited substance COBALT was detected in a urine sample taken from KING LUTHER at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on 4 November 2018.
Documentary evidence was tabled from the Racing Science Centre (RSC) and the Racing Analytical Service Limited (RASL) along with evidence from licensed trainer Mr Ben Ahrens.
After considering all of the evidence, Mr Ahrens was issued with a charge pursuant to AR178 which states:
Subject to AR 178G, when any horse that has been brought to a racecourse for the purpose of engaging in a race and a prohibited substance is detected in any sample taken from it prior to or following its running in any race, the trainer and any other person who was in charge of such horse at any relevant time may be penalised
The specifics of the charge being that Ben Ahrens as the trainer of KING LUTHER brought that horse to the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on 4 November 2018 for the purpose of engaging in the Maiden Plate 1200m, and a pre-race urine sample taken was found to contain the prohibited substance COBALT above the excepted threshold.
Mr Ahrens pleaded guilty to the charge and made submissions in regard to mitigation regarding the reason for Cobalt being present in the sample.
In determining an appropriate penalty, Stewards acknowledged Mr Ahrens’s unblemished record over a long period. However, Stewards were also mindful of similar penalty precedents, the negative impact such breaches have on the image of racing and the need for a penalty to serve as an appropriate deterrent to ensure racing is conducted free of prohibited substances.
Mr Ahrens was advised that his trainer’s licence was suspended for a period of nine months. Under AR 283 (7) the Stewards deferred this suspension until midnight Monday 9 September 2019. Therefore, the 9 month suspension of Mr Ahrens’s licence to train will commence midnight 9 September 2019 and expire at midnight 9 June 2020.
KING LUTHER was disqualified from its 6th placing in the C, G & E Maiden Plate at the Sunshine Coast on 4 November 2018 and the placings were amended accordingly.

From Racenet.com

Sidelined jockey Corey Brown says the handling of the inquiry into his Queensland Derby fall has left him dismayed.

The dual Melbourne Cup-winning jockey fell from Lord Arthur in the incident on June 8 and suffered a fractured T7 vertebrae, fractured ribs, a cracked sternum and punctured lung in an incident Brown described as the “darkest and loneliest moment” of his life.

Brown isn’t expected to make a comeback until late next year.

Queensland stewards reconvened the inquiry on Monday, more than four months after the fall.

In August chief steward Peter Chadwick told AAP, the extended delay was the result of logistics of getting all four jockeys together at the one time.

Matt McGillivray, who rode Grand Bouquet, was suspended for three weeks while Tommy Berry, Nobu’s jockey was suspended for two weeks after they were found guilty of careless riding charges.

A third jockey, Tim Clark, was also charged but after his submissions to stewards, was found not guilty.

Brown, who’s been riding for more than 20 years, expressed dismay at the way the entire process was handled by Queensland officials.

“In all my time as a jockey, I’ve never been involved in such a drawn-out matter – and why?” Brown said.

“They said in August they couldn’t get us all together at the one time but the first time I heard from stewards about it was only a month ago.

“Then I find out I have to pay for flights to go to Queensland to give evidence. Why did I have I have to pay – I was the one put on the deck?

“I’m not dirty on the other riders. No one goes out there and is deliberately careless, it was an accident and accidents happen in our sport which is so competitive.

“I just can’t believe how the whole thing was dragged out and ended up costing me money. I’m the one that can’t work in my chosen field at the moment.”

Brown said on leaving the hearing, the suspended riders were greeted by a representative of the Queensland jockeys’ association to complete the paperwork to appeal their suspensions.

Both will appeal and seek an internal review which should ensure they will not miss any remaining meetings of the spring carnival.

McGillivray was suspended from October 30 to November 20 while Berry was outed from October 30 to November 13.

This shows what a joke the Qld stewards are. This is borderline corruption at best, and illegal behaviour at worst. Sackable for mine.

Hey SC, what about this one. Do you think anything will be done?
WELL KNOWN BRISBANE TRAINER SET TO BE CHARGED?

THE last thing we want to do is pre-empt what is bound to happen or steal the thunder of QRIC.

But the racing industry in Brisbane is agog with rumours (and it's more than that) involving a well known trainer in plenty of strife.

All we can tell you is that he is in hot water after some under age industry participants made serious allegations.

Story goes QRIC have taken evidence from the complainants and listened to some allegedly damning mobile phone messages.

Expect a QRIC Media Release or announcement of police charges against the trainer (who won't be named but the industry timmy drums are beating his name) over the holiday period.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission says careful consideration will be needed before determining an application by disqualified jockey Danny Nikolic for a riding licence in Queensland.

QRIC Boss Ross Barnett confirmed Nikolic filed an application before Christmas.

"As per usual procedure, careful consideration will be made before a decision is made," he said.

Nikolic has not ridden since September 2012 after being banned following a running battle with Victorian stewards.

He last applied for a licence in Queensland in 2015.

Nikolic did part of his apprenticeship in Queensland with the late trainer Bruce McLachlan and has some close ties to the state.

He has ridden with plenty of success in Queensland including the Stradbroke Handicap on Show A Heart (2002) and Thorn Park (2004).

AAP understands if granted a licence Nikolic would be based in North Queensland.

His application is likely to be decided by QRIC's Licensing department later this month.

NQ is crying out for a rider of his calibre , may be a asset not a liability, that is if he can leave behind any baggage with officialdom, some young riders up here may benefit.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards have scratched four horses from two meetings on Saturday after a surprise inspection of a https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/toowoomba" rel="nofollow - Toowoomba stable.

QRIC’s Integrity Investigations Team raided Robert Smith’s stable on Saturday morning, allegedly finding him in possession of needles and syringes.

QRIC reported four horses set to run on Saturday were still on the property at the time of the inspection.

Stewards scratched Tocokoe and Madam Mahal from a race at the https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/gold-coast" rel="nofollow - Gold Coast while Purple Gem and Boomtown Babe were scratched from a race at https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/nanango" rel="nofollow - Nanango .

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett released a statement advising Smith denied any breaches of the rules of racing.

“However, the Stewards acted swiftly to ensure the integrity of today’s races while investigations continue,” the release read.

A QRIC vet took swabs from all four horses as well as samples from the needles and syringes to be sent for analysis.

The QRIC investigation into the matter continues.

Well said Bonjour. You should see what happens when they are not pre-race testing at some SEQ tracks. As soon as the trainers are aware, the milkshakers are straight onto it. Number is winners is relative to swab scrutiny.

There were a few different cases in the thread, so I quoted this one for clarity.
Trainer involved has apparently been outed for 6 months. Awaiting release of stewards report to confirm.

reading this blurb would have you believe it's all rosy posy up here, the elephant in the room however is UBET, or TABUBET whatever they want to call themselves.

They are in disaster territory, they will drag racing down here as the take out is obnoxious, and although generally field sizes are healthy, wagering is not.......

===============================================================

Any doubts that Queensland racing was heading in the right direction were dispelled with Monday’s announcement of the first half yearly results for the 2019-2020 financial year.

Highlights from the year-to-date announcements included:

  • Revenue growth of +25.6% to $139.4m
  • Returns to participants +20.8% to $104.1m
  • Attendance and participation +2.1% to 332,496

During the first half year turnover reached a record $2.3 billion which represented an increase of $64.8m.

Corporate bookmaker turnover increased 3.5% or $69.7m however turnover declines were realised by QTAB (-12.7% or $101m).

However, while there was plenty of blue sky for Racing Queensland there’s still a dark cloud lingering overhead.

The report stated that Racing Queensland remains insulated until the end of the calendar year through the provision of guaranteed QTAB payments, however, the much publicised Tabcorp merger revenue benefits remains an ongoing concern.

Returns to Queensland racing participants included an additional $15.4 million in prizemoney (+22.8%), $1.3 million for jockeys and drivers’ fees (+16%) and $1.4 million for critical racing infrastructure and club funding (+15%).

The Magic Millions raceday set a new Queensland turnover record of $58 million which eclipsed last year’s mark of $57m, whilst turnover for The Wave meeting run a week earlier was $27m, which was more than 30% up on last year’s corresponding meeting.

A simple question to QRIC, who are costing $30 million plus per year to control integrity.
Why has there been no mention On your website, of the inquiry held on 14th February where a trainer was disqualified for 6 months for inappropriate behaviour with licensed females?

I smell a cover up.

The only excuse I can think of is: it's before the courts:........however, you are right to ask the question, the industry deserves to know when behaviour like that is exposed.

Is there any transparency left? lets see if they come forth.

I see the offender has been publicly named and disqualified by QRIC.

I lasted 10 days training at Deagon, after 5 years at Flemington and 12  years at Rosehill, 25 years in the corporate world and 3 years owning and operating a racing and breeding property in NZ we decided to retire to QLD.

What a sad, miserable mistake, our scenario involved AQIS, QRIC, and finally the Federal Police......we walked in disgust, no one followed up from QRIC and AQIS......the case is before the Fed Police, I just hope they do their bit, as the whole thing stinks.....I lived here during the Joh Bjelke era, it's still rotten to the core.

Queensland trainer Tim Hurley has been disqualified by stewards for acting inappropriately towards a female rider and another female racing participant.

Hurley was disqualified for six months after facing two stewards' charges, one of which related to text messages sent from his phone.

Hurley was issued with two charges under AR 228 (b) which says a person must not engage in: misconduct, improper conduct or unseemly behaviour.

The stewards' report into the matter stated the particulars of the charges were as follows:

Charge 1 - On an unspecified date between May and June 2019 at the https://www.racenet.com.au/tracks/qld/deagon" rel="nofollow - Deagon Training Complex, Hurley engaged in unseemly behaviour when he made an inappropriate action and inappropriate comment towards a licensed person. Hurley pleaded guilty to Charge 1. In determining penalty in regard to charge 1, stewards took into account Mr Hurley’s disciplinary record, his guilty plea, the nature and seriousness of the charges and that any penalty should be a deterrent to the industry so as to not engage in this type of behaviour. Subsequently in relation to Charge 1, Hurley was disqualified for a period of 6 months.

Charge 2 -  In that between July 2019 and August 2019, Hurley sent inappropriate text messages to a licensed person. After considering all the evidence, Hurley was found guilty on Charge 2. In determining penalty in regard to charge 2, stewards took into account Hurley’s disciplinary record, the nature and seriousness of the charges and that any penalty should be a deterrent to the industry so as to not engage in this type of behaviour. In relation to Charge 2, Hurley was disqualified for a period of 6 months.

Stewards ordered that both penalties be served concurrently.

Furthermore, acting under AR 283 (7) Stewards deferred the commencement of the penalties for a period of 7 days to allow for Mr Hurley to provide adequate care to his horses and make arrangements for the horses to be transferred to new trainers, subject to the approval of the stewards.

"As such, the period of disqualification will commence on midnight 21 February 2020 until midnight 21 August 2020," the report stated.

Hurley was advised of his rights to an internal review.

Coronavirus might have claimed it’s most recent victim. A very high profile Brisbane trainer has gone bankrupt. Common denominator in many financial disasters are yearlings purchased on credit from big sale companies. Maybe they should change the credit rules a bit. But it is not good to see big stables like this go dusty. Hope the little blokes ok, and surely he has done harder times than this.

It will be a tough time for many trainers, whether they be upper, middle or lower tier.

Ours bought about 25, though only two after Melb Prem ending 3 Mar and none at Easter.  He's been pro-active with a well produced E-yearling 2020 Magazine emailed to every owner on his books and also available in hard copy but still wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

You'd think those already in or close to administation/bankruptcy at this point would be as a result of purchases/events prior to the coronavirus pandemic with the likes of MM/Inglis calling in their debts.
