Subject: 2015 Yearling Selection Comp

Well we have one for the 2014 yearling sales which is progreessing very well, so why not for 2015 also and along the same lines?  Hopefully Dizzy or others might maintain the database.
There's already a comp re MM 2015 which can stand alone, so we're talking all the other major sales such as Classic, Melb Prem, Easter, Inglis Gold, Scone etc.

What do people think?

Go for it & if Dizzy hasn't the time or inclination, the comp'll still survive Wink. I've Black Booked all the 2013 ones & update as notifications come thru from R & S as they do International runners too but it'd get too confusing for me to add newbies to the same list, does another mob do International too?

My 2014 selections look a bit shaky at this early stage, but more than happy to have another go this year.

I'm in. Are we starting with NZ?

Indeed why not Campaspe, let's go!

Posted By: furious
Date Posted: 30 Jan 2015 at 4:32pm
Gee I'm tempted. Maybe. Do you need one from each sale or what. Sight unseen may be a problem I'll go looking for the cheapes. What are the terms we use please.

Posted By: Second Chance
Date Posted: 30 Jan 2015 at 4:52pm
Suggest the rules bee like last year, $1mil total budget and x1 yearling max from each or any sale.
This would exclude MM sales as Goldey has already started a comp for them in 2015.

I'll kick off with Classic Sale Lot 223, colt by Artie Schiller ex Mahira.

Posted By: furious
Date Posted: 30 Jan 2015 at 5:02pm
So we don't pick from the NZ sale?  Can we wait and see them online or do we have to pick before they are sold?

Posted By: furious
Date Posted: 30 Jan 2015 at 5:05pm
Why I say this is I usually set a limit or a price I think the yearling is worth and if it goes over knock it out of the followed band.

Date Posted: 30 Jan 2015 at 5:08pm
Furious you're allowed to purchase post-sale so long as someone hasn't got in first.

Hi Second Chance what price do I put the PI lots at. Like the above which was passed in at $70,000. Do you want $70000 or if listed the reserve price. Some sales give the figure others don't!

Correct furious. Just went to see him in the round yard at our breaker now he has arrived in Oz. Needless to say, I am a very happy owner right now. It's one to see them walk at a sale, it is another to watch them stride out under their own steam.  This guy has the same fluid movement of his older sister - very exciting!

Seems I need to answer the 'call to arms' so having had a quick look at those coming to Oz only (money Wink) & not checking others choices, mine are, in order:

642 Beneteau 45k
997 Cape Blanco  80k
762 Jimmy Choux  45k

Thanks furious, you're doing a super job, shout when/if you need me to do something Thumbs Up

It's not obligatory to have a pick in every sale so I'll give Karaka a miss.

If no-one's answered Furious's query about pass-ins, you can take a lot at the pass-in price (or a later sale price as is sometimes the case following negotiation).

Posted By: furious
Date Posted: 02 Feb 2015 at 9:04am
The only trouble is NZ is only listing the reserve price not the PI price!  The only price I have is the $70,000 reserve.

Posted By: furious
Date Posted: 02 Feb 2015 at 9:06am
Bother Gay.  I seem to have one per sale or can you have more from one sale and less elsewhere.  Please let me know Second Chance and I can let Uluru have his second pick from NZ if he so desires.

Once the list is completed Gay I let you mark them down.  I don't seem to be above to load the graphs like Dizzy can.  With computers I'm a user and abuser but very basic.

Guys the bottom line is that you have $1m to spend in any manner you like at the various sales.  So 2 at Karaka, none at premier, 3 at Easter or whatever.

If Karaka doesn't advise the passed-in price suggest the reserve be the "purchase price" at the sales.

Date Posted: 02 Feb 2015 at 11:27am
Oh well, I'll have all my 3 then, they're nice cheapies LOL

The three above are in Gay.  And I've added your second Uluru.  Now there are six sales listed above.  Classic, NZ any, Melbourne Premier, Easter, Inglis Gold and Scone.  So that means up to six lots with the maximum total $1,000,000.  Now I know the details I will make less mistakes.  Once we finish if gay could let me know how to load Data bases I'll put it all on line and we all can keep our eyes open for names.  Your three are a nice price Gay hope they all get a city weekend win and you'll be sitting pretty.  Well maybe two wins for the Cape Blanco.

Good on you furious

With respect to passed-in lots, I suggest that you should be using the reserve price rather that the amount passed as the reserve price is what it would have taken to buy the horse (in theory anyway- reality is a bit dodgier )

'Gay' is just the 'labourer' who copy/pastes what Dizzy (data base Queen) emails me Wink. I too hope the Cape Blanco goes especially well having been alerted privately that one of our members has taken a share already Smile. Thanks for all your tireless work furious Thumbs Up

Blast I've got to put in the El Ashb Stratum colt.  $7,000 is just too cheap.  Something obviously wrong but maybe good time in the paddock can clear it up.

NZ Karaka:

Lot 84: Jimmy Choux- My Parlay- 105K
Lot 96: Stravinsky- Octapussy- 180k
Lot 107: High Chaparral- Panama 20k (not sure why the price, beautifully bred and a nice enough type)
Lot 168: Jimmy Choux- Shadow Ray- 135K
Lot 335: Jimmy Choux-Cyclonic-80k
Lot 371: Hinchinbrook- Ennerdale- 130k

Went looking for a few nice High Chap's and ended up with 3 Jimmy Choux's!! The Jimmy (Cyclonic) going to Philip Stokes looks a cracker. Fell in love with lot 431 but too pricey considering he is staying in NZ.

Hi Oritah so far as I know its just the price on sale or the reserve if not sold.  If you can list that as well when sold it saves me having to look everything up.  Thank you.  Pmthiru I really liked that Halo Halo good luck with him.  I'm just adding them into a data base so it's easer to remember what we all have.

I just realised that Defying Gravity is one I picked as a weanling.  I'll be watching him too Warri Symbol.  That $40K was a good by also Banjo.  It makes you wonder what is the problem with some of these horses which have quite decent pedigrees.  The mares had two city winners.

She looks a spitting image of the half sister by Red Dazzler who can't win a prov. mdn I m speculating that Snitzel might make a difference

You can have all three if you want.  As you can see one stable is full of NZ buys.  And most of us have more than one from this sale.  The rules changed to max six and max spend $1000000.  I've put all three in for you but if you want any knocked out let me know.

Neither can I furious, I do this all at work and can only use Microsoft Excel which just wont post. So I get Gay to post the spread sheets for me, she has a freeby software called Libre Office, and that seems to allow posting in an acceptable format.

Thought that may be the case Gay, so you are still the number one spread sheet poster.

In excel 2010. Select the area on the spreadsheet press the control and c keys then select paste - special - click from the options the picture Frame ( the box with the mountain on it). That will save it as a picture which will allow You to shape / reduce to the size you want   Then copy it to the forum as a picture

Gee there are a few from the Melbourne Sale I'm interested in but I don't get to see them and may wait till after Easter to include what I want.  Too many interesting pedigrees.  Pity they don't always work.  All that good thought and then the horse injures itself or gets sick etc.  So many variables.  No wonder it is so hard to pick a winner!
