Apparently this mating is to take place EARLY next year.

How many quality race mares has Australia lost to the Northern Hemisphere in the last few years.

Its a big blow.

I guess that's what a global market is all about. To balance we have had some good ones come here. Mind you if with Coolmore or Darley they soon go back but hopefully we have a daughter.

Atlantic Jewel really is an absolute Australian blueblood! I'm  not convinced a mating with Galileo will produce anything. I would have preferred High Chaparral and keep her here.

She has landed in Ireland for her rendezvous with Galileo. From what I've read courtesy of twitter she could be there for a few years. Hopefully one day we'll get to see her progeny grace our tracks.

From a pedigree perspective I can see the resultant foal (colt) winning an English triple crown and that seasons Melbourne Cup.

That is my dream horse anyway.

I think it is a much better effort although confusing at the same time.

He was settled very close to the lead and for what ever reason was not taking the gaps that seem on the angle to be there. Once he gets to the outside he motors home.

Sold online last year for $5,000

The description was ‘slow maturing’ and ‘would suit country area’
Already did a prep with Lindsay Park and then Nathan Dunn when owned by Yulong.
I see he is nominated for a 1400 and 1600 maiden , but also a 1400 maiden at Werribee on same day

He ran 2nd.

At the time, I did a search for "Atlantic Jewel" and did get a hit so I commented in the International section.

Russian Emperor WILL win The Derby.

2 years in a row an Aussie mare has provided the winner of the worlds most coveted Derby.

It is the trainers that is this nations problem with middle distance and longer.

Well in Australia Sidestep has a Golden Slipper winner.  Last week he got a 2400m stakes winner in France.  Mind you he had Quest for Fame and Handy Proverb to give him stamina genes to go with the speed of Exceed and Excel but I've seen Exceed and Excel's out over a distance overseas also.

While Fastnet was had set winning over 1200m he has sired classic winners and Atlantic Jewel is out of a Zabeel mare.

Maybe we should just look at the fact our trainers can get really good speed out of stayers!

Russian Emperor wins Hampton Court

Atlantic Jewel's son Russian Emperor may lead Aidan O'Brien's title defence in next month's Derby after winning the £60,000 Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes (2004m) for three-year-olds at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. Russian Emperor is as short as $9 to win the Derby at Epsom on July 4 with British bookmakers and only behind equal $4 favourites English King and Kameko with Military March next in betting at $6.

Ryan Moore guided Russian Emperor ($4.30) to his half-length Hampton Court victory over First Receiver ($3.20 favourite), positioning him at the rear of the eight-horse field before following First Receiver into the race.

By Galileo out of the Australian champion Atlantic Jewel, Russian Emperor looks to be a colt with a big future.  "He's a really nice colt, he's got a lovely attitude. His dam was very good, she was a champion in Australia," Moore said.

"He won his maiden there at Naas and the last day at Leopardstown (when runner-up in Group 3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial) the ground was very quick and it was hard to make up ground.

"He was very professional today, he showed a good attitude and I think ten (furlongs, 2000 metres) is fine really but he may get a little bit further."

When Moore was pressed further about Russian Emperor's suitability to for the Derby and ability to run out 2400 metres, he replied: "I think he's very comfortable at ten (furlongs) and he'd give himself every chance to stay, we'll have to see how everything else shapes up.

"He's a nice horse and as I said his pedigree is great, his dam was exceptional and he's good colt to look forward to."

Atlantic Jewel won 10 of 11 starts including four Group 1 races for Mark Kavanagh. Russian Emperor is raced by a Coolmore syndicate which includes former Australian Turf Club chairman Laurie Macri.

Should Russian Emperor win the Derby, he will become the second successive Aidan O'Brien-trained Derby winner by Galileo out of a Group-winning mare that raced in Australia for Mark Kavanagh.

Last year's Derby winner was Anthony Van Dyck, out of Exceed and Excel mare Believe'N'Succeed who won two of eight starts for Kavanagh, notably the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies' Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield in February 2008.

Empireofthedragon finally making his debut today
Swan Hill R3 1600m maiden

Posted By: Shawy38
Date Posted: 24 Jul 2020 at 3:56pm
Finished last.

He's in his sixth stable, has undergone a couple of name changes and next week technically turns six years of age in Australia, but the first foal of Atlantic Jewel is finally set to debut.

Empireofthedragon, a product of a union between legendary stallion Galileo and the former champion Australian mare, steps out in the $31,500 TAC Maiden Plate at Swan Hill on Friday.

It comes more than 18 months after he landed in Australia, but less than a month after taking up residence with Caulfield trainer Robert Hickmott, who expects to learn plenty about the gelding in the 1600-metre event.

"I've only had him for three weeks and he's done nothing but please me since he's come into the stable," Hickmott said.

"He's a beautiful horse to deal with and he's a fully-set Galileo, so hopefully there's some upside there."

A debut assignment at Swan Hill - coincidentally, where Atlantic Jewel's Caulfield Guineas-winning sister Commanding Jewel made her debut - would have been long odds when Empireofthedragon was foaled in Ireland on March 25, 2015.

Initially trained by Aidan O'Brien, Empireofthedragon left the Irish maestro's care with a number of other regally bred performers when part of a bulk purchase by Yulong in late 2018.

He was entrusted to Lindsay Park, where he was known as Yulong Dragon, before a change of scenery was deemed necessary, which resulted in a stint with Nathan Dunn at Cranbourne.

He was with Dunn until October last year, when he was sold for $5000 to Caliber Racing in an online sale and was transferred to Barry Muddle at Kyneton.

Once again operating under the name Empireofthedragon, he remained in Kyneton until he found his way to Hickmott but had been transferred from Muddle to Helen White in the interim.

Empireofthedragon was entered for multiple races when in White's care around the time Atlantic Jewel's son Russian Emperor was going around one of the leading fancies at Royal Ascot and while he never accepted, he was due to debut at Ballarat on June 28 only to be scratched.

Empireofthedragon took up residence with Hickmott not long after that and, as former head trainer for Lloyd Williams, one thing he is familiar with is products of Galileo, with Hickmott describing him as a 'typical Galileo'.

"The mile first-up will be no worries for him," Hickmott said.

"I'd love him to win for the owner, because he has been a bit of a project horse."

Empireofthedragon, who has been $13 into $10 with BetEasy, has drawn barrier six and will be ridden by Brad Rawiller in what is the third race on the Mildura Cup program.

One of his rivals is another of the Coolmore shipment to Yulong - Yulong Song - who will be having his second start of his second preparation for Lindsay Park.

Yulong Song, who was known as Memphis when he landed in Australia, is another son of Galileo who is out of the Congrats mare Turbulent Descent.

That makes him a brother to Spanish Steps, winner of the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown in August 2017, who subsequently came to Australia but was unplaced in three runs for Williams.

Yulong Song also landed in Australia unraced and finished second to Flag Edition at Benalla on debut before a fourth placing to Aussie Nugget at Seymour ahead of a spell, with his first-up run producing a fifth of 12, as a $2.30 favourite, over 1400m at Wangaratta on June 29.

Yulong Song is a $5.50 chance in BetEasy's market, which is headed by the Andrew Noblet-trained Legend Of Zorro ($2.45), who has finished second at his past two starts.
