going well, i've always followed him.  he got Baci Amore up on the weekend and that horse had not been able to do that for about one and a half years, and that win 18 months ago was a 2yo (masterson homes hcp) and it was Hugh's first ever ride on the horse!!

What a great try by Hugh yesterday , he lost his irons at the start of the race ,  but gave it every chance to win nevertheless ,he gave the punter and the connections a good run for their money ,he has got to be rated as one of our best riders.

What's the reasoning behind him not riding at the Gold Coast on Saturday? Top jockey. I think his time in England did him a world of good.

Missed out on the ride of Love Conquers All so decided to stay in Sydney.

The thing about Bowman is that not many Victorians and others rate him because he is not able to get many rides in the big races as he rides heavily. If he was lighter, he would be spoken about as one of our best of the last decade. Week in, week out, there is no better in Sydney than Bowman.

I know it's near blasphemy, but i was hoping Bowman got the ride over Beadman. Not sure how the dazzler's form is at the moment in HK, but there's no one in better form than Hughey at the moment.

That was a gun ride from Bowman, from gate 1 he jumps misses the start slightly, then switches off the fence and onto the back of Sindarin.

Super ride again. 2 roughies tried to make it difficult, wouldn't let him slot in one-out, so Hugh goes forward, then the horse behind the leader tries to come out, and Hughie just pushes it back in...loved it

Joke of a penalty. 2nd time in a month he has stopped riding, but hey, he is riding Winx, cant suspend him for longer.

Posted By: acacia alba
Date Posted: 15 Feb 2017 at 8:04pm
Give him a break.  His family have been fighting fires all week to save their home and stock.   They are in the thick of the really bad fire, and his mind is bound to be with them.   His father always goes to see Winx run but this time he couldnt leave home as they were all out battling fires.
That would have to be in the back of his mind,,,,surely ??    It would be, if I was him.
How many mistakes does Hughie make over all ??  Not many !!

Didn't do much wrong from what I can see on the replay. RR was weakening and dropped back on to JE slightly. As soon as he felt that he seemed to drag RR out of the way.

Agreed. The Stewards footage is not conclusive enough to condemn him.

I suspect the issue might be as they reach the first bend but it could well have been the inside horse as much as Russian Revolution that squeezes Shiedel out of the front rank.

- It caps a remarkable year for the champion hoop who won 10 of the world’s top 100 Group One races. Six of those came on Winx, which wasn’t lost on a typical humble Bowman.

- “She’s certainly been a headline act for me and, as nice as it is to be recognised as the Longines world’s best jockey this year, my association with her exceeds that.”

- Check out this awesome highlights package Longines put together. Congrats again Hugh.

I do not think Winx is a reason to say he he does not deserve the award.

How many times has Moore, Dettori, Fallon, or any other jockey won the award and they have had a horse they have ridden win five or more group 1 races by itself?

I would also be interested to see how many group 1 rides, previous winners have had, compared to how many Hugh had, in the top 100 group 1 races of the world. I would say Hugh would have been lucky to have a ride in 25 or 30 of the top 100 races, and so that makes his effort, even more noteworthy!

THE Australian Cup has been thrown into chaos after Hugh Bowman was abruptly forced to leave Flemington for what is believed to a serious family issue.

The champion jockey was due to partner short-priced favourite Avilius in the $1.5 million Australian Cup.

But, soon after guiding Osborne Bulls into second place in the Newmarket Handicap, Bowman became aware of the family issue and left the course.

Racing Victoria issued a statement on behalf of stewards, saying: “Stewards permitted Hugh Bowman to be released from his riding engagement on Avilius in the Australian Cup to enable him to leave the course due to a family matter which he was advised of after riding in the Newmarket Handicap.”

Bowman has been replaced in Melbourne’s premier autumn staying contest by Corey Brown.

Hell get 2 months probably. He will get favoured because of his stature for sure. If an average jockey did this it would be maximum penalty.

In the old days, it would be said the moneys on big time. Worse that G Moore on Baguette in GS. Verging on foul riding. If van Gestal is fair dinkum, give him a good 4-5 month holiday and make him recompense the owners of the fallen horse.

Tommy Berry and the fall in QLD resonate? what did Berry get? This is worse if anything, no care for horse or rider, Danny W should say to Bowman, stay in the room, you're not on mine in the 3rd .....think about it.

Any rider who causes falls through dangerous riding (like that) should be stopped riding for the same time as the injured jockey misses. That was unforgivable for a rider of his experience.
