These people that spend their whole lives digging up stuff, like that Hagan bloke does, must have even more boring lives than us who waste so much time here on TBV .At least here we get a bit of a chuckle, and get to exchange ideas, but his ideas are always the same;ie; bash the white fellas for making his dark ages country into a great nation with free hand outs for all his tribe. People astonish me, the stuff they think is important,,,, for instance , the mob in the US campaigning for "Free Britanny". Hagan would fit in well with them. |

Thats how I see it too, Stayer. If we dont laugh at some of this ridiculous PC stuff, we will cry at the sheer nonsense of it. Geez, such a time waster he is. Find a genuine cause within the Koori community and take it on and do some good. Like sexual abuse of children, petrol sniffing, domestic violence, for example.

Its pretty simple. If one person gets offended it is good enough reason to change what ever it is so they don't continue to be offended. That's about it isn't it PT ? What's so difficult to understand

Great to see this lady at deaths door get her wish to sing our (now changed) National Anthem. Pity old mates Ado, Mitchel & co couldn't find the respect to do same - even after it got changed to suit them

At least people within a minority are still allowed to be un-PC about their own "group." Eg Sam Pang can make Asian jokes. That'll probably be given some kooky name and considered bad the way things are going.
I remember watching Gogglebox once and a couple of Asian friends joked that the Border Security show "gives us Asians a bad name." |

As it should Stayer. What is it with Asians & there own food - almost as if they don't trust our stuff out here. And most of that stuff they confiscate looks appalling

There's the each way bet. Was that aussie school making boys stand up at assembly for being male just doing it to get a laugh? That's just as ridiculous as changing the name of Coon cheese isn't it? Or is that an example of "empathy" or whatever? |

Not allowed to say that unless you're asian, 1-1. Lucky for me I'm 1/16 aboriginal, so I'm surely "entitled" to make jokes about Stan Grant's changing hues. |

That'll be a long wait, PT. I wouldn't presume to know, and I don't get outraged by much.

That renaming of Coon cheese was the biggest joke of all. The was name derived from the American cheesemaker Edward Coon of Philadelphia, who patented a method in the US in 1926 for fast maturation of cheese via high temperature and humidity.

So why did they change the name Bob, and who was offended by the name?

And further - how long are we going to have to put up with those Welcome To Country Addresses before everything. Even before a fight these days. Probably be doing them at school assemblies shortly. Bloody painful & boring. Not even sure indigenous folk could give 2 hoots about them.

Rather, why should they have changed from Coon ? It was the surname of the bloke who devised a method of manufacturing a type of cheese. Should Simon Black, ex AFL Brisbane footballer, change his surname to White because he is white or should Darryl White, another ex AFL Brisbane footballer, change his surname to Black because he is black ? |

"Treating people with respect and without discrimination is one of our basic principles, and it is imperative that we continue to uphold this in everything we do," Saputo chief executive Lino A Saputo said.
Our decision to change the name of Australia's much-loved cheese reinforces this commitment to build a culture of acceptance, inclusion and respect where everyone feels a sense of belonging."

Interesting side-note re words and their meanings. The racist term "coon" was an abbreviation of "raccoon", because the US white racist folk considered raccoons to be lazy, thieving, sneaky, stupid animals etc. Terrible, obviously. (Maybe they should rename the animal, not the cheese named after the bloke. That'd solve it.)
A similar derogatory racist word in the US was "Sambo." Most likely derived from "zambo" - a derogatory term used by Latin Americans to describe dark skinned people of African/ American Indian descent. It came to mean the same thing - lazy, sneaky, stupid etc. There's a lot of evidence out there that the slaves in US learned to take the pizz out of the "coon"/ "sambo" stereotype. They'd PLAY at being dumb and lazy etc, for their own advantage. It became part of their subculture - "Gee boss, don't know if I can do that" etc. The Mel Brooks movie Blazing Saddles sends it up beautifully, and he was allowed to cross those un-PC lines because he was a Jew who did sketches about Hitler. It still goes on in music culture etc. The Snoop Dog ads for Menulog for example. There used to be an expression "playing Sambo", which is just like "playing dumb" or "playing possum" - pretend to be dumb/ dead/ asleep etc to get an advantage on or fend off enemies. |

They've been doing that crap at school assemblies for years, 1-1. Tbey have to keep changing which version they use as our awareness evolves. |
