Its just a bit of paper isnt it, after all ?   If you are going to stick together, and make it work, you do that anyway.

Relationships begin with the power of the pussy and some men's brains start and end within their male organ, is it any wonder some marriages do not last beyond that physical contact.

That is an awfully cynical way of looking at things BB, I am sure many people here have fallen madly in love with someone they actually felt somewhat less sexual desire for, than others they did not fall in love with. That equally with men and women.

I think Bob's comment is pretty spot-on, these days.

Don't say that in any of your romance novels, JJ, it will hurt sales.

Exactly!! I've never had the desire to procreate, put myself in the position of feeling 'owned' & waste extraordinary amounts of money on tying the knot, to then potentially divorce Wink

Waste Sat arvo with a wedding, and heaps of money for others to feed and drink.  Thumbs Down  Rather pay off the house.
Let alone dresses.  OMG they spend a fortune on dresses , that will never be worn again.
And females who go thru the whole bride bit,  after having 2 or 3 kids, never ceases to amaze me.  LOL

When we got married, someone told us, just treat it as a party with all of your friends and family, so we did, however we didn't go stupid on dress or suits or anything, I agree AA, it can be a massive money pit if you are not careful, I've never understood these "destination weddings" myself, expecting your guests to spend thousands in travel and accommodation just to attend your wedding, feels like peak selfishness/look at me to me.

As a mother of six I was glad  I was married.  To being with there are problems if the children have a different surname to the mother.  Maybe my generation was still marrying.  I don't know but maybe I just found a good one so I don't have a bad impression of marriage.  Likewise my parents.  Now if I'd been trapped in a bad marriage my ideas would be different no doubt.

You can marry on the cheap.  It doesn't have to be anything more than a dedication to cherish and look after each other.  Then back to a family home to celebrate.

I was just lucky I guess to have had such happy memories from both my parents home and my own.

Terry Barnes, former senior adviser to John Howard has said  " when he worked for Howard political staffers had prior life experiences under their belt, whereas today, too many are brash and ambitious and are far too inexperienced and emotionally immature ". Barnes suggested when Kevin Krudd took over there was a 'cult of youth" among staffers which was not reversed when the Coalition regained power.

Logically these staffer revelations would only be the tip of the iceberg as for every one of the 257 members of federal parliament there might be 5 >10 advisers/ staffers. When these immature  staffers finish work and when booze is involved a toxic culture of sexual activity will evolve. I doubt it is little different to any "night club culture" in any capital city in Australia tonight.

Despite the recent staffer revelations there has been a long history of scandals engulfing high profile members of parliament which captured the public's attention. Cairns / Morosi. Gorton / Gotto.  Joyce/ Campion. come to mind . No doubt, outside of those, there would have been many others but were swept under the carpet, unlike today, with mobile phones, Facebook, Twitter etc any indiscretions are soon out there in the public domain.

Furious, that is the problem today, some single women might have six children but not have the same father. Those children are starting off disadvantage from the day they were born.

Here we go Wink

When was the last time any member of TBV went into a night club and observed the behaviour of some of the patrons? Thought so, you cannot recall.

Well do you think the behaviour of young immature, in their twenties, Canberra staffers are any different from those night clubbers when go out for a meal, drink and finish up at some night club in Canberra then head home to their flats or apartments ?

Last year, before the lockdown fun started.

I'll ask again too lol. Am I the youngest person here? Is this thoroughbred village actually a retirement village? Surely not.

I hated nightclubs when I was a teenager and only ever enjoyed being in them  when I was so high I would would have enjoyed looking at the patterns in the wallpaper.

What's  good about them?

I used to enjoy standing just in front of the bar - drink in hand - bopping up & down as I surveyed the dance floor

The night club portion of the night usually happens after whatever the main plan was first. Dinner, party, wedding etc etc. So by that stage I'm drunk enough to enjoy the dance floor

Fair point TJ. Dancing was never a strength for me. The exception was when I was almost blotto - seemed to find my rhythm better. Well that’s what I always through at the time anyway ??

You probably thought your repartee was similarly improved, 1-1. Have you ever been at a party where you had to stay sober, whilst most others got progressively more drunk ? Not that entertaining.

Don’t think you meet lurkers like that in the nightclub, they cower in a dark spot near the ladies loos, looking to pick out one that’s trashed and seperate them from the herd.
You know,with his charm.....
