This looks to me to be one of the best horses Williams has imported to Australia yet is very lowly rated. Has only 50.5kgs in Caulfield and Melbourne Cups so will need substantial penalties or win a ballot free race to get a start. That being the case one would think they will have him pretty forward early in his prep. He's first up over 1700m at Flemington in a race a lot weaker than he's competed successfully in in Europe.

By Galileo out of a Pivotal mare so bred to stay 3200m. Very lightly raced 5yo having only started 8 times. Had a couple of runs as a 2yo for seconds. Broke his maiden as a 3yo winning by 11 lengths. Next start he won a listed race beating The Taj Mahal (G2 winner and G1 placed) by 3.8 lengths. Later in the prep he ran a close 2nd to multiple G1 winner Benbatl, and again beating The Taj Mahal, this time by 1.5 lengths. This is serious European form.

Weighted to win on Saturday. Just a matter if he's ready to fire at his first run for over a year. But the Williams team is very good at getting such horses very fit first up.

1700 might be a little short for him IMO
Furrion is a pretty good horse, I think he can win over this trip from a better alley.

Both his wins have been by big margins and over 1600m so 1700m at Flemington first up should not be too short. Last time he was first up he won by 11 lengths over 1600.

I get that.
But knowing Lloyd’s history, I have doubts he’d have him wound up to win over 1700 first up.

Like I said, he's bred to run 3200m. Hard to find a stouter sire than Galileo. Pivotal also sires stayers.

That's the thing. I think he's a G1 quality horse but he's got a listed rating. Hence his low weights for Cups.

I have no idea whether he's ready to win on Saturday. But it is very Williams-like to have them fit enough to win first up. Homesman springs to mind but there have been many.

Orderofthegarter had a Official handicap in UK of 110, Mutahaa won the Ebor off 109 and has 55.5 kgs for the Cup.

Almandin, his Cups horse, has been unluckily beaten first up his last two preps. Lloyd generally has his horses very fit first up.

At face value that seems weird. Just reinforces how lowly handicapped he is for Cups.

I wonder what’s happened to this 6yo Galileo stallion of Lloyd’s?

Had terrific form as a young horse in UK & France, so Lloyd would have had to have paid top dollars to secure him.

Landed in Aust in Aug 2017, had 1 local run in Sept 2018 (a very good 2nd over 1700m at Flemington behind Furrion). Hasn’t been sighted since.

I’d expected to see him in Cups noms today, but he’s gone missing!

Anyone have any intel at all on this guy ?

I’d love to know what all these horses are doing at Macedon.
He spends a fortune on them and they never race!!

Well my question is finally answered a year later.

This classy import is still with us & is nominated for a 1600m race at Flemington on Saturday.  Now with Danny OBrien.

Could this be the start for an Almandin style Cups campaign.

GARTER SHAKES A LEG

Renowned for his precision, Danny O’Brien admits to flying blind with injury-ravaged import Orderofthegarter as the trainer chases Flemington premiership success on Saturday.

Trailing Lindsay Park 15-16 on the Flemington trainers’ table, O’Brien’s title hopes rest with Orderofthegarter, as well as long-shot chance Rapid Romance in the three-year-old handicap over 1600m. Orderofthegarter is hard to assess because he has been off the scene for so long.

“He’s had one run in three years, so whatever questions there are about him, they’ll be answered tomorrow,” O’Brien said on Friday. “There’s nothing in mind for him (in terms of future races) because he hasn’t raced for so long.

“He’s high quality, a good style of horse, and he came to us very sound. He’s been bombproof in everything he’s done for us, but we’ll know a lot more about him tomorrow.”

Owned by Lloyd Williams, Orderofthegarter was trained by Aidan O’Brien, stamping himself as a gifted galloper in Ireland in 2017. The son of Galileo won a 1600m maiden by 11 lengths on heavy ground, then beat dual Group 2 Zipping Classic winner The Taj Mahal by almost four lengths in the 2000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown.

He finished second at Royal Ascot to high-class Benbatl, who was second to Winx in the 2018 Cox Plate after winning the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes.

But since arriving in Australia, the now six-year-old has run only once — a close second to Furrion in a 1700m handicap in September 2018.

Orderofthegarter has been in work since March, building fitness at Thirteenth Beach.

“He had a jumpout at Moonee Valley a month ago and went well,” O’Brien said.

He has drawn barrier six, will be ridden by Damien Oliver and is a TAB $5 chance in the open handicap (1600m).

After a season highlighted by Vow And Declare’s Melbourne Cup triumph, O’Brien has the chance to overtake the Flemington tally built by Lindsay Park’s former training partnership of David Hayes, Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes. Lindsay Park leads the metro trainers’ premiership by nine from Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

If he is well inside and sound in the timber dept. half fit or better he should walk this race in although deep down all I see is a flashing red light.LOL

Really good effort given it was his first run in 2 years.

Seemed to be a 1600-2100m horse in Europe.  I wonder what they’ll aim him at in the Spring?

Another ‘back me next time’ run from this stallion today.

Is he good enough for a Caulfield Cup?  And if so what is the best option pathway to qualify him for it?

If they're thinking Caulfield Cup surely the Naturalism next start is best? However I'd say he's more likely heading to the Bart Cummings with a view to the first Tuesday.

Quite taken with this horses run on the weekend, lack of pace in early and mid- race had this horse pulling which did not suit at all, maybe a little fresh as well, when the pace was clapped on just before the 600 he took a little while to find gear stick but last 200 was very pleasing, if he can qualify for the CC by winning what's needed imo he's the best of the locals?? along with flukers hope Nonconformist.Wink

Been a fan of this guy since he debuted here a few years ago, so was glad to see him victorious in the Naturalism today.

BUt slashing him into favouritism for the Caulfield Cup seems an overreactions. WIth only 50kg he is a hope but not as fave.

Others thoughts?

The one thing I took from that run Lord is, that Oliver still has it!

That was a sensational ride, because he won the race in the first three hundred meters when he moved forward and slotted into a love spot where as Steel prince and Chapada who both flashed late, gave too much start.

If he can sit forward like he did today with 50 or even 51 kilos (if he gets the penalty), and kick like he did today over 2400m then he is a huge hope.

The problem from today is he drops so low in weight that Oliver can not ride him. So that then makes us ask the question, who would get the ride?
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise

Both Jye McNeil and Daniel Moor been riding for the stable and they both can get down that low, and of course Yendell would be right in the mix.
