Obviously as of right now the horse is not "trained" by DWLukas but he was in his stable and it will be interesting how the officials treat the "paperwork" for the horse to start. According to the Starter's list Ashcroft is trained by DWLukas but everyone knows that the horse is being looked after by the stable's staff.

Journalism, started as the 2/5on favourite won.

He is the only horse to have run in all the Triple Crown events, winning the Preakness Stakes
the middle leg of Crown. Now he adds the G1 Haskell Stakes, his 3rd G1 this season.

Connections are now not sure whether run against Sovereignty in the G1 Travers Stakes or take on the older horses in home state in the G1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar.

We have another interesting race here in the summer at Saratoga for 3yos....

The KDerby and Belmont Stakes winner is showing up in what looks like a prep race towards the G1 Travers Stakes next month.

This Saturday's clash of Breeder's Cup Classic winners in the G1 Whitney Stakes will be a major highlight in this racing season in the US.

A good field also showed and last year's Travers Stakes winner Fierceness was made the favorite but he faltered.

Sierra Leone last year's BC Classic winner won his first event this year in a rousing performance from last to first. Will be interesting as we move towards this year's Classic when Sovereignty and Journalism show up! And don't forget Mindframe!

Cheers Brudder.

That's a long time between runs for Sierra Leone so will be interesting to see how he fares.

Connections want to run him once at the 1 1/4 mile distance before the BC Classic since he has only had 3 runs this year this far.

There was some whisper of running the G1 Jockey Gold Cup on closing weekend at the Spa...

Yes, it will most interesting as we head into the fall!

This weekend we had 3 Grade I events that are worth mentioning here. All three events were for fillies or for mares.

Interesting that two of the events were in the past were run by mares which ran in yesterday's G2 P B Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield!

G1 E P Taylor Stakes @ Woodbine (Toronto) 1 1/4m Turf  3YO+ F&M

She Feels Pretty, ch, 4/f Karakontie (JPN) — Summer Sweet, by More Than Ready
Started 4/9on and held off Diamond Run (GB) in a tough battle down the straight to win by a head.
Moira (CAN) ran in this event three times with an 8th, 3rd and last year a second before winning the G1 Breeders' Cup Fillies and Mare Turf.

G1 Del Mar Oaks @ Del Mar (California)  1 1/8m Turf 3YO F

Velocity, b, 3/f Nyquist — Blast, by Harlan's Holiday
Massive upset at 35/1 as the filly snuck along the rail in the straight and cause a boilover!
She cost Eclipse just $75,000 at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training from consignor Two Oaks Equine. Bridie Harrison consigned the filly at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where she sold for $27,000 to VC Corporation.

G1 Alabama Stakes @ Saratoga (New York State) 1 1/4 dirt 3YOF

Nitrogen, b, 3/f Medaglia d'Oro — Tiffany Case, by Uncle Mo
She drew praise as the top 3-year-old filly on turf. When rain forced her to a sloppy dirt course in the June 7 Wonder Again Stakes (G3) and she romped by 17 lengths!!! Nitrogen became the sire's third Grade 1 winner this season, joining Good Cheer and Spirit of St. Louis. He stood for a $75,000 fee in 2025 at Darley's Jonabell Farm near Lexington.

5 G1s at Saratoga Springs
End result was that handle for Travers Day on 14 events was much lower than 2025.
2025: $54,309,929.  2024: $63,023,405.

The events were too predictable with odd-on all over the place.

G1 Personal Ensign Stakes 1 1/8 miles F&M 4YO+
Thorpedo Anna, dk b/br, 4/f Fast Anna — Sataves, by Uncle Mo

Won in a thriller by a nose at 3/4on

G1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes 7 furlongs 3YO
Patch Adams, b, 3/c Into Mischief — Well Humored, by Distorted Humor

Won his second G1 at the Spa

G1 Ballerina Stakes 7 furlongs F&M 3YO+
Hope Road, b, 4/f Quality Road — Marley's Freedom, by Blame

Started as 2/1 fav and won going away!

G1 Forego Stakes 7 furlongs 4YO+
Book'em Danno, dk b/br, 4/g Bucchero — Adorabella, by Ghostzapper

New Jersey bred, started 9/10on and won again at the SPA!

G1 Travers Stakes 1 1/4 miles 3YO
Sovereignty, b, 3/c Into Mischief — Crowned, by Bernardini

Continues to prove he's the top 3YO on dirt in US with a cakewalk winning by 10 lengths.
Started 1/5 on really was more like 1/200on!

Two G1s for the Classic horses this long Labor Day Weekend in the US.

Excellent events in preparation for the Breeders' Cup Classic

G1 Pacific Classic at DelMar over 1 1/4 miles

2YO Champion Fierceness coming back to form with a commanding win over 3YO Journalism

G1 Jockey Gold Cup at Saratoga over 1 1/4 miles

A rough race which saw Mindframe lose his jockey Ortiz early and Sierra Leone could not catch 13/1 Antiquarian.

from nbc

DEL MAR, Calif. — Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Sovereignty has been scratched and will not run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday after catching a fever this week, taking the favorite out of the $7 million world championship race.

Trainer Bill Mott announced the decision Wednesday to scratch the country’s top 3-year-old horse. Mott had previously said Sovereignty not racing was a possibility.

Sovereignty opened as a heavy 6-5 morning line favorite in the field of 10, which also includes Derby and Belmont runner up and Preakness winner Journalism. The Breeders’ Cup Classic was expected to determine the horse of the year.

Mott and ownership have made it clear over the past several months that they would play it safe with Sovereignty, including the call to skip the Preakness after he won the Derby and looked like a legitimate Triple Crown candidate.

With 3 months to the Kentucky Derby focus on qualification events is going to be in the news.

The weather was far for spring like as 2 events were postponed to next week - the G3 Southwest Stakes and the Listed Wither Stakes.

That left the G3 Holy Bull Stakes to be run at Gulfstream Park and it was easily won by the Todd Pletcher trained Nearly who bounces to the top of the qualification standings for the Kentucky Derby after the defection of the 2YO champion Ted Noffey due to injury.

Nearly as youngster proved to be a potential wonderful soccer hopeful. (check out the video of him in the paddock dribbling the beach ball!)
