What an out of character run, perhaps all is not well, some deep thinking needed on what appeared a promising spring campaign.Cry

I read/heard that he had a blood irregularity and a temperature before scratching recently. May not have recovered from a virus?

G Begg mentioned pre race he had a high white blood count

Recovered fairly quickly but was concerned re race fitness going into yesterday
Said he would be better for the run

Interesting to see to see how this horse performs today after minor hiccup, I'm sure he wouldn't be running if he wasn't pleasing his trainer, rail out 10 mts, drawn to box seat with some old warriors to beat and the Princess, top 3 I'll be happy, bonus if he lobs.Wink

Nice win.

Frustrating to hear the trainer say he might drop him back to the mile.

He was getting stronger the further that race went. You'd think 12f would be ideal

Not even nominated for the Caulfield Cup

A rather emotional response from the trainer today,  methinks there has been some behind the scenes " finger pointing" it happens and their out there the knockers, this is the best way to answer them, I agree with all , it was a nice win and the 2nd horse was primed right up today, I'm sure wherever he's placed it will be to give him the best chance.

would’ve had Buckley’s on Saturday anyway, smart decision to not pay the final declaration fee

I'm pretty sure the pen went through that idea after the poor 2nd up run a month ago Jamal, along with poor blood report, well documented , a 96 rater all had to fall into place , didn't happen.

Yeah I'm not sure who the last 96 rated horse (handicap rating) was to win the Caulfield Cup

Begg said he'll freshen & head for the mile Cantala, hinting at longer races next prep as still very immature.

Boom Time was 102 when he won. Nonconformist would've been 100 with today's win but with the interrupted prep you can understand why he was pulled out prior.

Ok, interesting. Thanks for that info re: handicap ratings. Whilst Timeform ratings are different (method wise) to Australian handicap ratings, Boom Time was rated 115 heading into the Caulfield Cup. He was then rated 117 (Timeform) for winning the Caulfield Cup.

He’s a nice horse who will win races, but not at G1 level.

Drop him back to something like an G3 Easter Cup next month would be more suitable.

Encouraging run today and over a journey is his forte imo. a weak handicap or bush cup could be suitabl , looks a nice horse the winner .

Our valued German member Ticino will be very pleased to see that the winner is by Maxios, a son of the great German sire Monsun (Melbourne Cup winners Almandin, Fiorente and Protectionist etc).

Great ride by young Childs, eased out at the 700 and didn't go until he had to. I'm pretty sure his old man rode his first winner in Oz for us, this young bloke is as good as the old block at the same age.

Really honest performer this guy.  Can he win a Caulfield Cup?

I’m not sure he can.  Others thoughts on this?

Correct on both counts Shawy, however whilst above average believe he needs to improve.

Have Incentivise, Colette, Hungry Heart and Tralee Rose ahead of him FWIW.
