That is also why you sometimes see RB's and WR's pass the ball on a play. I remember this season just gone Christian McAfree became one of few players who had a rushing TD, he passed for a TD and he caught a pass for a TD.

I am sure I have seen guys like Deebo Samuel, Tony Pritchard (Cowboys) and others thrown the ball.

Edelman often threw the ball in trick plays.

If you don’t think Rodgers is happy about his new team, look no further than his first week where he has attended more offseason workouts with the Jets than he did during his entire 2022 offseason with the Packers.

I kind of hope that the Jets win a SB with Rodgers. He's too good a qb to have only won one. Although he's getting megabucks while he loses so I don't have all that much sympathy for him.Big smile

It would serve Gutekunst right if the Jets win the whole shebang.

I  have just become aware over a period of time several well known VFL/AFL players made it big-time in the NFL in the USA. Way back in the 1960s Colin Ridgway played for Carlton Reserves and was a prolific long kick, so when his VFL was in decline he went to the US and he became very a successful punter. Prior to playing with Carlton he was a very good high jumper and had competed in the 1956 Olympics. Unfortunately in 1993 Ridgway was murdered in Texas.
Another 30years elapsed before Darren Bennett , ex AFL West Coast & Melbourne moved to the US and had highly successful NFL career that lasted 11years.
Following Bennett's success Ben Graham, who played 219 games with Geelong, made the move to the US and he had similar success in a career in the NFL for 7 years, finishing at 39 years of age.
After finishing his AFL career of 257 games with Collingwood and North Melbourne Sav Rocca ventuted to the US and also has a successful 6 year career in the NFL.
It is of interest prior to Bennet going to the US all punters kicked a torpedo punt, but when, on his arrival in the US, Bennett used the more accurate AFL drop punt, it was soon adopted by most punters and today it is used by all punters.

If my memory is correct it was Graham and Rocca's success among some Germans and other nationalities, that were directly responsible for the international combine which the NFL now conducts with chosen athletes from around the world which have been scouted by professional scouts.

And while I am here DeAndre Hopkins would make a borderline Superbowl contender a definite challenger now he is being traded.

The favorite is Buffalo as he has said he will take less for a season to be with a team who has a genuine winning hope. OBJ's mid season move to the Rams and his success may have started something here, especially with the receivers not getting the top money in previous seasons.

I heard on McAfee's show that the players association are thinking of blocking the trade T, because they think it will set a bad precedent.

I thought it was a free market system. If a player is getting traded, but he has a year left on his contract, and is being partially paid by his former team, and he wants to go to a team to actually have a hope of winning a Superbowl, and he is prepared to take a pay cut. then how can the players association block the trade?

If I was DHop I would tell the players association to get lost, but maybe I would use stronger language.

This is the big story in the NFL at the moment - the devaluation of the running back position.

That is why T that the Giants should tell Barkley that he can leave and then sign Kareem Hunt from the Browns.

It is about getting value and while Barkley might be the RB with more upside, Hunt is as good as he is and comes with a lower price tag.

If you were a young guy hopefull of making it in the NFL, you'd do all that you could to not be a RB surely? Although I guess if you're under 6 foot and 220 pounds, you're kind of pidgeon holed.

A google search tells me the average RB salary in the NFL is $1.5 million, obviously elite RBs would get more.  That would still make the player the highest paid in the NRL, so I guess its all relative.  4-5 years on that kind of money with smart people helping you invest and you could still live a comfortable life, it's not like these guys are out on the streets after earning that, they're just not getting the QB, DB, WR or pass rusher type money.

They're not getting the same money as anybody except punters/kickers and punter/kickers are closing the gap.Big smile Running backs are the only position where incomes have declined since 2017.

I remember Travis Kelce getting peeved off about not receiving as much as a WR. Geez,  I reckon he should be up there with Adams and Jefferson. Who else does Mahomes target?

"One of the biggest values in the entire NFL is tight end Travis Kelce. He’s never made more than $12M in a single season, before 2023, and he’s recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last seven seasons."

I guess thats why they call a good TE a QB's safety blanket, the other thing with a TE's receptions is he's generally in the middle of the field with a lot more traffic around him making it tougher to catch and also gain yards post-catch.  WR's are generally out in the open when targetted with at best 2 DB's covering them and given its more open, they're more likely to attract DPI flags.

Davante Adams signed a 5 year, $140,000,000 contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, including a $19,250,000 signing bonus, $65,670,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $28,000,000.

Kelce is underpaid...by a long way...

I might have to eat humble pie, in regards to Jordan Love.  He looked good at the family inter-play game day.

Mind you, no-one was attempting to sack him. But some of those grenades to Watson and co were spot-on.

 Time will tell.

Okay guys here we go with the absolutely accurate analysis of the NFL season.

NFC

NFC East

Philadelphia Eagles: 13-4
Dallas Cowboys: 10-7
New York Giants: 9-8
Washington: 5-12

Division Summary: This is a tough division although on talent the top two teams are the genuine play off teams. Philadelphia are just about certain to make a Superbowl run once again. Dallas actually look a more balanced team so if their play callers can get the game management right I do see them improving this season. New York has not improved during the off season and they are still having problems with their running back while Washington have a good defense, and they have good pieces on the offensive side, but the systems in place do not seem to be allowing them to improve their performance level. Once again the top two should make the play offs and the other two will be in the wild card mix.

NFC North.

Detroit Lions: 11-6
Minnesota Vikings: 9-8
Chicago Bears: 6-11
Green Bay Packers: 5-12

Division Summary: Not sure what to think of this division. Detroit left us wanting more at the end of last season but they are notorious infamous for not backing good seasons up, however they have a different attitude and some good pieces in place to win the division. Minnesota have not improved and surely they used up all their luck last season. And the other two teams can go up or down. We all know Green Bays off season moves, and not only have they lost talent but also experience on the offensive side of the ball while Chicago have a really well balanced offense which opens up options with threats coming from Fields, DJMoore and Chase Claypool. If the young players in the Lions locker room do not let the headlines inflate their own perception of their abilities they should win the division.

NFC South

Carolina Panthers: 7-10
New Orleans Saints: 7-10
Atlanta Falcons: 5-12
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1-16

Division Summary: Tampa is back to the dark days of their success so forget them this season. While New Orleans have a solid defense and the addition of former Lion Jamaal Williams adds to the offense which has Kamarra who will be missing for the first three matches. I think Carolina finished off well last season and if the rookie QB can hit the ground running they can shock some and win the division. I would have the Falcons higher up because they are good in the first half of the games but then they fall away. If they can play for the full 60 minutes in three more games than last season they can improve. This is the weakest division in the league!

NFC West

San Francisco: 13-4
Seattle Seahawks: 10-7
Los Angeles Rams: 4-13
Arizona Cardinals: 3-14

Division Summary: A clear top rater here. The 49er's look just as dangerous as in recent seasons. There is a issue with Nick Bosa and his contract but they will sort that out and if Purdy makes the natural improvement as he should the systems are in place to carry the team to at least another NFC Championship game. Seattle will improve! They have a genuine top line offensive secondary which should scare opposition defensive co-ordinators. The Rams are a shadow of the Superbowl team just two seasons ago. There is a huge question mark on Stafford and they have lost Jalen Ramsey. They could bounce back but again with Seattle's improvement they will have struggles in the division while Arizona are the lowest rating team on my ratings and with Kyler Murray missing for at least the first five rounds and no DHop, the team looks like favorites for the No.1 draft selection in 2024.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: 13-4
Miami Dolphins: 10-7
New York Jets: 7-10
New England Patriots: 7-10

Division Summary: This could be a very difficult division. Buffalo need to bounce back from a low season for them, but they were devastated by injuries (they remind me of the 49ers the season before they played the Chiefs in the Superbowl), if they get a fair shake injury wise they are a very dangerous team. Miami has the pieces in place but they absolutely need Tua to play the full season. If he misses three or more games they will struggle to get 10 wins. I think with Patriccia gone from the offensive play calling that is a natural improvement on it's own on that side of the ball for the Patriots which was not very productive last season and then we get to the New York Packers. Obviously they had a good young group of players already. Then you add the former Packers offensive co-ordinator, along with the MVP QB, and his pals Lazard and Cobb on the offense, for at the very least experience if not actual talent upgrades. The Jets have the worst start to the season where I have them only winning one game against the Broncos and even that win is questionable if Payton and Wilson form a good relationship. I can quite easily see them going 0-6 as they get to their bye week. From there they still have at least four difficult matches from their last 11 games. I can see them improving but unless you are a Jets fan you have to be realistic and say they might just miss the play ofs this season which will set them up for a run in 2024.

AFC North

Cincinatti Bengals: 11-6
Baltimore Ravens: 11-6
Cleveland Browns: 9-8
Piittsburgh Steelers: 8-9

Division Summary: Talk about a tough division. I could put any one of these four teams on top and still get it wrong. All four of these teams have some qualities that say they could win the division. The Bengals were looking good again, until Big Joe went down at pre season drills. If he is missing for any amount of time then the Bengals come right back to the field. Baltimore have finally given their QB some real weapons in the secondary which allows him to take advantage of more space. Cleveland are my sleeper for the season. Even though they lost Kareem Hunt, they still have four genuine top line weapons for Watson to target and if he can get his passing back to his Houston days this team could win the division. The one area they need to improve is their home wins. They need to make their home field a dog pound again. Two more home wins and the same number of away wins from last season gets them a play off berth. I think Pittsburgh will be good but I just think their coaching staff is holding them back similar to the Cowboys. They rely too much on high end talent to bail them out of losing situations. All four of these teams could make the post season without surprising!

AFC Souths

Jacksonville Jaguars: 10-7
Tennessee Titans: 9-8
Indiannapolis Colts: 7-10
Houston Texans: 5-12

Division Summary: Obviously Jacksonville should be the favorites for this division however I discovered something in my research which might see that not happen. Tennessee missed the play offs for the first time in their current head coaches tenure last season, however in 12 of their games last season they either led into the final quarter or were tied with their opponent. In three games this directly caused them to miss the playoffs. The extra time loss to the Chiefs, the game they lost to the Texans and the final game of the season they lost against the Jaguars. With DHop adding his talent to the offense it gives the QB Tannehill another target to utilise. They can absolutely win the division. Indianapolis can improve but they will not make the post season while Houston should win more than the three games they won last season but they are about two drafts away from getting near a post season.

AFC West

Kansas City Chiefs: 13-4
Los Angeles Chargers: 10-7
Denver Broncos: 7-10
Las Vegas Raiders: 6-11

Division Summary: Obviously the Chiefs will win another division title, unless Mahomes gets a season long injury. The Chargers have got the pieces but that play off loss for Herbert will either spur him on or play on his confidence. Denver should naturally improve with a change in coaching, but they are improving from a disastrous offensive campaign while Las Vegas will continue their under performing especially if they let DeVante Adams move elsewhere. I am a Big Jimmy fan and hope he can prove himself away from the Shanahan system!
