No, of course its not, and thats the beauty of it. No smoke and noise, and chemicals being let loose. Fire risk. Scares she gelati out of animals . And is a total waste of money. I could accept that , instead of fireworks.

I can understand your point about showing sensitivity to the fire disaster, even though I don't agree with it. But you keep making the ridiculous point about cost  It has been posted many times the financial benefit far outweighs the cost of fireworks. And guess what, laser shows cost money, possibly even more

Very hard to quantify that Whale - can anyone be 100% accurate that is it FIREWORKS themselves that drive the NYE spending? Would a laser show or drone show for that matter not also bring the big bucks in? And what if all central NYE celebrations were suspended, can anyone know for sure whether the same money might be spent elsewhere on NYE celebrations anyway.
The only way to see if an alternative might work for far less cost is to try it.Heck it may even bring in more tourist / visitor dollars because it is a change.

Tourists are going to flock to the harbour city for New year on the harbour and they wouldnt care if it was fireworks, laser, drones, or candles. As long as they got a show. How do you know how the cost of a laser show would compare to fireworks ? But, the financial benefit to who, exactly ? Not those west of the great divide I dont think.

I really don’t know whether or not the benefits outweigh the costs, that’s for someone with actual data to determine. But the cost argument is a furphy because if it’s a waste of money this year then it is a waste of money EVERY year.

We live in a capitalist, hedonistic society, Countless millions are circulated on what the ascetics would consider unnecessary, frivolous luxuries, that is how it works .And you worry about a few million for fireworks which hundreds of thousands enjoy, really
In Russia they spend millions on military parades, I think fireworks are preferable

Couldnt care less what they do in Russia, but I think here they just waste money, talking 600 million to move the museum from the city to Parramatta, and millions more for a football stadium that we have dozens of now. Money could be much better spent IMHO.

I admit your small minded carping and the way the truth came out, not respect for the fires' victims etc just that you don't like fireworks and have always looked upon them as a waste of money. Hiding behind the tragedy of Australia burning is a pretty low act IMO
