He’s in good hands with Brian Smith.   I don’t follow Brisbane racing that closely but will keep an eye on how this colt progresses.

Why the kiss did they drop him back to 1400m ?

Seriously, Our horses are about 20 lengths superior to their trainers.

Scratched from Thursday at Doomben & from Caloundra yesterday.

But he has accepted for a 1600m Class 1 event at Caloundra tomorrow. I think I’ll recoup my losses from last start & have a go at him again.

I see the name Neptune and my thoughts always turn to the first horse I ever backed with cash.

A little bit of support for him but I can not help but think he will be running on at the end looking for 2000m+.

He was looking for 2000m before his last start 1400m contest,

The way he is being backed, If he sprints like a gazelle at the end of this trip I can only assume he was dead last start.

Everybody blames the horses and or the jockeys. Our modern day trainer is deplorable. They are head scratches. It has got me kissed what they are seeing and doing with these horses.

Why don't you start up a Trainer's Academy , but first you must know how to put a bridle on.

Carioca, funny as that was 😁, there is very little written data on how to train a racehorse. I searched a few years ago and came up with very little. An American book about training off track and a great newish scientific based 2 yr old program, which apparently was very successful, but disappeared from print. Some Tesio stuff. It’s very much a game where you have to learn on the job, starting at the bottom or be born into it and follow in the old mans footsteps?
A long hard grind, to be sure, but quite difficult for up and comers to get their hands on the secrets of success, not only for winning but for the welfare and longevity of the horse as well?
It’s an industry where people want to keep their expertise close to their chest, and newbies need to operate to an extent on trial and error?
Trainers hold both human and horses lives in their hands, they really need to have a very solid grounding, a thirst for more knowledge, and be open to positive change and sourcing of the latest data regarding their craft. And in that regard Djebel is spot on, some are a lot more astute than others .
It’s a very long and winding road, starting with the mare and stallion match, rearing of the progeny, choosing a trainer, and hoping it all culminates in being first to arrive at our longed for destination.
One thing we are not, and that’s pessimists 😂

Nice reply Sister Dot and you have covered a fair bit of ground , but I can only talk from my experience from my very start, you have to roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty , keep your eyes and ears open and absorb what's around you hard for a teenager I know ( been there lol) but if your fair dinkum and committed in what you have in mind your a chance, the inescapable fact about racing is your dealing with livestock, you might have them one day and due to circumstances beyond your control their " gone o/ night, there is only one way , the practical way , not theoretically, in all walks of life some strive to be the best , some succeed , and there's the " also rans", i'll leave you with something that was said by the man who broke Tommy Smiths stranglehold on the trainers prem. with the help of some very wealthy patrons , "The biggest mistake I made in racing was I only ever worked for one trainer, and learnt nothing" he was referring to Jack Denham, luckily he had a background with quart/ horses in Queensland, did the bloke walk round with his eyes shut? I think he said that when the fire in the belly went out a number of years later, work, discipline, an eye for a horse , knowing how to feed , a good client and common sense your two thirds on your way , ps. marry a horse women too , as they understand the crap you have to put up with , and work for a Good trainer.

Probably erred by dropping him back to 1400m then going back to 1600m.

There’s a perfect 1800m C1 at Caloundra on Sunday that would have been perfect for him. But hopefully Brian Smith finds a suitable race for him next time.

This horse had 5 trials for Waller and was pathetic, to my way of thinking if they have that many before having their first start there's a whale in the bay, 1 race start for Waller at new castle , last in a field of 12, for Brian Smith to win a maiden in town with this horse imo he's a genius , he's a smart cookie been round a long time and Yes he did train Balmerino, he'll get the best out of him but ability wise , it's not far in.

Jumps a few grades but he’s up to 1800m at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Worth a nibble at 15/1
