cheers Stayer, you dont sound like a tool. thanks for taking the time and giving them your input.Yes they are really improving of late and I am so impressed with their ability to create that original. there was no help from teachers etc. they just came up with it themselves. not bad for a bunch of 15 year olds. cheers again.

Yes stayer, I can hear that. You'd be surprised the influences prince had. Having known a few people who were in his band and management he had many influences. One of his biggest was Joni Mitchell. 
He had many influences in metal and heavy rock from black sabbath to Whitesnake and journey. There was nothing he loved more than putting on foo fighters loud and then jamming with the band doing Dave Grohl songs.

Princes guitar playing is legendary. Just do a search on prince and guitar playing in google or YouTube and you'll find heaps of videos on every style.

Believe me mate I know how good he is! I knew he loved Joni M but didn't know he listened to metal etc. I saw him live once and I couldn't believe what was coming out of that little guy on stage! People who don't like his stuff would change their minds if they saw him live! The guy was superhuman.

Agree, never seen any musician like him. I was privileged enough to see him perform 3 times at his home studios, Paisley park, once with only 30 people in the crowd, once with about 100 which was a full stage dress rehearsal for an upcoming world tour and another was with about 300 people for a local fundraiser.

He not only listened to heavy rock, punk and metal but influenced a lot of those bands. Listen to Dave Grohl speak about how high he regards Prince and as do the other members of Nirvana and Foo Fighters. Birds of Tokyo love him and whilst they are no longer that heavy, their offshoot band-Karnivool, are as heavy as it comes. Metallica speak highly of him and there are numerous others including a punk band named The Bronx who also twilight as mariachi band called Mariachi El Bronx and they've done a cover of I Would Die for you.

Prince drew influences from all types of music and in turn influenced almost any genre of music imaginable.

We count our blessings every day. No, it's a long story but I got to know a couple of people in his management when they toured here in 1992. Sadly, no pancakes although there was a free spread of snacks, fruit and juices before each show for everyone.

That's like being able to say you got to be in the inner circle of Elvis, the Beatles etc, if only for a few days. And not in some seedy way like being some misfit at a party or whatever. Prince is one of the all time greats, especially for musos who understand how freakishly gifted he was. Good stuff.

By the way, it was 1992 when I first "discovered" him. At the time he wasn't "cool" and considered a weirdo by the mainstream etc, but I had a secret CD/ vinyl/ bootleg collection starting, trawling second hand music stores of the time etc. Good old days before Spotify etc.
