I took what Credlin meant as the new settlers lived in crowded conditions , live like shxxxx houses and treat laws with disdain.
Which is normal until about 3rd or 4th generations.   That's when the groups disperse and become more tolerable, with some integration. .
The exception is people claiming indigenous links .   Due to pizz poor financial advantages & their lack of motivation.

can someone please explain why this government is all of a sudden ok with economic refugees? Scomo offering hong kongers safe passage to australia in light of the issues there.
why are people from Hong Kong given a saloon passage ahead of refugees that have been locked up in detention for 5 years. Its a bloody disgrace and the ultimate hypocrisy.

I agree, Marble. Money mainly, IMO. Hong Kong people are a probable asset. Somalians etc not so much. Probably as simple as that. Kind of like "racial profiling" but not based on race - based on money.

None should be imprisoned that length of time, and of course immigration has largely been based on money ever since Hawke.

Those who feel they are  immediately threatened under new Chinese laws qualify under current refugee programs. New legislation with a special category is being introduced to cover everyone else.

The poms are certainly doing their part with the anti-Chinese "push", with offering immigration to Hong Kongers, I wonder if they are offering to swoop in and take the unfortunate real-refugees-from-mayhem of their former colony of Myanmar ? I'll go right out on a limb here, and guess, "NO".
