Well. it looks as if Michael Slater is not too popular going by these comments in this morning's paper.
MICHAEL Slater is a bloody disgrace. Our Prime Minister’s duty is to the Australian population in total, not a group of highly paid sportspersons who left our shores aware of the risk involved. His “blood on his hands” statement shows a disgraceful lack of respect for our elected representatives and his own countrymen. CR, Carnegie MICHAEL Slater, the PM is doing his best to keep Australia COVID free. You went overseas of your own free will, to make money. A very stupid thing to do with COVID running wild in parts of the world. Now you are whingeing you are restricted, as many others are, in returning. Do you want COVID running wild in Australia? Allan, Spotswood AM I on my own or do plenty of other people not give a toss about Michael Slater’s opinion on anything? Wayne, Mitcham THE PM has a responsibility to protect Australians’ health. Michael Slater is protecting his income. Why give airtime to these vested interests? Gerry, Westmeadows I USED to like Michael Slater but after his outrageous comment about ScoMo, he has lost me. Chris, Melbourne I FIND the arrogance of the Australian cricketers in India mind blowing. They went to India knowing it was a COVID-19 hot spot, but were willing to take the risk so they could make a lot of money. Now that their decision has been exposed as a very bad one, they’re willing to put the health of the rest of the Australian population at risk. All actions have consequences. No sympathy here. Kevin, Wantirna I NEVER used to like Michael Slater that much. I do now. Brian Woodcock, Nunawading MICHAEL Slater was infamous for playing rash shots and getting out in the 90s. His recent stupid outbursts show he is as rash as ever. He should stick to cricket commentary, although I for one won’t be listening. Brian, Dingley IF cricketers can’t wait two weeks while the government sets up a system, there’s something wrong. Some 9000 Australians in India have waited a year to come home. Will the cricketers take the blame if corona gets out and 1000 die here, or will they say it’s the Prime Minister’s fault? Robert, St Kilda |

totally in agreement that Slater is selfish, couldn't give a toss about how this might effect vulnerable people back here.
I might not like Scomoron, but he's done the right thing by stopping flights. |

Bullsh#t. He went over their for money. He is meant to be a sporting "hero". Our ANZACS went over for NO MONEY, looked danger right in the eyes, confronted it, and even lost their lives. They werent running for the airport to fly home. Why, because THEY ARE REAL HEROES While Slater sits in the Maldives drinking cocktails. Absolute whimp of a guy, cant look at danger in the eyes, unlike our ANZACS Honestly, our ANZACS would be ashamed of him. If he wants to comeback, like the pathetic whimp he is, he should be made to join the Australian Defence Force. Covid is a Bioweapon, we are in a war, and this rich snobby little whining idiot, cant confront danger. PATHETIC

Wrong (as usual). And hard to take any of your non-sensical rant seriously really. Nevertheless, the reason he is over there is irrelevant. These are Australian citizens who have the right to enter the country. Since when has the government been able to legally refuse entry to citizens? Never. And that’s why the border entry ban is being disputed in court as we speak.

Already backtracking. Howard Springs to get a workout and even talking about expanding the quarantine system longer term.
Are these fools for real?

Exactly. They couldn’t backtrack fast enough. Immediately said the fines/prison sentence wouldn’t be imposed. And now the ban is going to be over almost before it started. We are dealing with a bunch of imbeciles who couldn’t run a chook raffle.

WHIMP: The original and still by far the most common spelling of this common bit of slang, meaning “weakling, coward,” is “wimp.” If you use the much less common “whimp” instead, people may regard you as a little wimpy. |

Scomo's the wimping assh0le here. Plenty of detention centres but precious little in the way of quarantine facilities which is a clear Commonwealth responsibility. The following is a brief extract from a Michelle Grattan article
India travel ban falls as Morrison tries to escape the branding of his government as a moral pariah/ By Michelle GrattanIt became clear this week repatriation flights for Australians stranded in India would have to resume ASAP after May 15, whatever the COVID situation in that country. By going too far in its effort to stop individuals using a third-country "loophole" to get home, the Australian government made it impossible to keep shut the direct flight pipeline. Cabinet's national security committee on Thursday approved the resumption as the government finalised arrangements with the Northern Territory, site of the Howard Springs quarantine facility where the arrivals will go. The government will give its reasons as to why arrivals from India have become more manageable (although the number will be modest). Notably, it will say the "pause" has provided time to reduce COVID overload in quarantine. By May 14, positive cases at Howard Springs are expected to number between 0 and 5, down from 55 on April 26. A key reason, however, that won't be included is that Scott Morrison needs to escape the branding of his government as a moral pariah. |

India ban has shamed Liberals, but not enough for many to speak out against itThe decision to make it a criminal offence for Australians to try to return home from India has shamed Coalition MPs, but they fear speaking out against it. |

Although he has denied it, rumour has it David Warner and Michael Slater nearly came to fisticuffs when they had a heated argument at the resort both were staying during their enforced quarantine in the Maldives.
Seriously doubt they were discussing the Chinese piece of space junk that landed off shore close to the Maldives.

What happened to the abusive rant from EnableMe/ThreeBears? You mods are too kind to him stopping people from seeing his deranged side. Or not kind at all if you consider the comedy value that the rest of us miss out on.

As reported today's Diary column in The Australian newspaper.... "We’d love to be a fly on the wall when negotiations begin on renewing Michael Slater’s contract as a cricket commentator with Seven for the upcoming Ashes summer later this year. Slater has been with Seven since it took over the cricket rights in 2018. But Seven insiders have told Diary that the network bosses are “keenly observing the appropriateness of Michael’s behaviour” on Twitter this week, after he posted a series of sledges at Prime Minister Scott Morrison over his border bans on travellers from India until May 15. We’re told the word that best sums up Seven’s attitude to Slater’s tweets from his temporary home in the Maldives is “concern”. The ex-Australian opener’s tweets have come as he waits to get home from his role as a commentator for the cancelled Indian Premier League. Slater’s Twitter outbursts over the past week, of course, have been nothing short of spectacular. They started on Monday with “Blood on your hands PM. How dare you treat us like this”, going on to observe that it was “amazing to smoke out the PM on a matter that is a human crisis”, and dared ScoMo to “take your private jet and come and witness dead bodies on the street!” By Wednesday, they had escalated to: “I challenge you to a debate anytime PM.” And admittedly, Slater’s feisty opinions have provided plenty of good content for Seven, as the cricket broadcaster, on its news sites. But Diary hears the big concern for Seven at a corporate level is avoiding, at all costs, any damage to its relations with the government." |

I reckon Slater told Warner he is and will always be a grubby cheat, and Warner didn't like it. Or something like that.

I dont get why the Australian is trying to make something of a pair of renowned boofheads getting it on on a cricket tour. As for the Maldives thing, they were all relocated there by the Indian board of control.

Might be a good reason for Ch7 to get ride of him. A bit of controversy, albeit on the money. He’s an ordinary commentator anyway so the perfect excuse. And yes, both he and Warner come across as a couple of A-graders.
