Mamdani Isn’t the Future of the Democrats. This Guy Is.

A cardboard cutout of a presidential candidate could win California on the Democratic line and another 15 deep blue states. The question Democrats need to answer, the question that matters for the future of the Democratic Party and quite possibly for the future of democracy in America, is what kind of Democrat can win Pennsylvania.

As it happens, we already know the answer. His name is Josh Shapiro.Wink

...

Tuesday’s election results have supercharged the debate among Democrats about whether the road to political recovery runs toward the middle or the left. The reason the argument persists is not because the answer is unclear but because, for many Democrats, the clear answer is unpalatable. The party will not return to the White House, nor reclaim Congress, until it learns to embrace centrist politicians like Mr. Shapiro.

Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York does not demonstrate the viability of progressive candidates outside of a few big cities and coastal states. Nor can Democrats solve their problems by wrapping the same ideas in better paper. The party has marginalized itself so thoroughly that even Mr. Trump’s unpopular presidency isn’t doing much to make Democrats more popular. Everything Democrats want to accomplish is downstream from figuring out how to persuade voters in places like Pennsylvania — and in a bunch of places where the Democratic brand is held in even lower regard — that the party deserves another chance.

Mr. Shapiro’s recipe is a plausible basis for the party’s renewal. Democrats are the party that believes in government; they have to show that government can work. They have to deliver the stuff they’ve already promised: education, security, opportunity.

...

Paul Begala did acknowledge the success of the Mamdani’s overarching strategic guideline:

Keep it simple, stupid. Free buses. Freeze rent. Free child care. City-owned grocery stores. Tax the rich. Regardless of how you feel about these ideas, each one would fit on a hat.Clown

Contrast those slogans with how Kamala Harris summarized her housing policy at an August rally in North Carolina: “As president, I will work in partnership with industry to build the housing we need, both to rent and to buy. We will take down barriers and cut red tape including at the state and local levels. And by the end of my first term, we will end America’s housing shortage by building three million new homes and rentals that are affordable for the middle class. And we’ll do that together.”

Free buses.Shocked That's crazy communist madness.Angry

In 2020, Kansas City became the first major U.S. city to implement free bus service. Five years later, the RideKC zero-fare program remains in place, as the city council has agreed to maintain its free fare program through April 2025. This covers the Kansas City bus system, paratransit for disabled and senior residents, and the KC Streetcar

A news release from RideKC dated August 2025 says: “Fares will be reinstated in 2026. Free fares will be offered to those who qualify, but they will need to obtain a specific fare mechanism.”

Of course there are no economic advantages to the cities commerce, to traders in the city or the environment through free buses, especially electric

Lets face it, America is such a basket case thee days, how could any new meaningful policies be implemented with their system ? we can't even sort out a tiny little housing crisis for 26 million people in Australia, how on earth does anyone think they'd get anything passed in the US that wasn't obliterated in congress or the senate. Even with some amount of bipartisanship getting some things passed, they seem to disappear the next administration.

US politics seems to be one very large, corrupt, charade, it's mostly about war and the military as far as I can tell. Most people's lives are very simple and they get on with them as best they can, get up, get the kids ready for school, go to work, come home and have dinner, watch some TV sleeeeeep.

US policy makers barely get anything done from one term to another. Trump has been bullshi tting about a new health care plan for 10 years now. There's no way they can do anything, no way..Once you have a population as large as the US it's all just pomp and show, fiddling around the edges, finding distractions, visiting other dignitaries, voicing their position on cable TV, go to bed.

It's all pick your team wave your flag, yell at the TV when politicians get caught yet again in another scandal, round and round we go, it's like the forever wars but without the bloodshed in their backyard.

Carl.

Of course we have fee busses here too, and trains, pensioners ride for free, students too, conservatives need enemies to point their fingers at and it's always the same things, commies, but look the other way when Trump cuddles up with Putin and Xi. Can you imagine any president during the cold war acting like Trump ? they would have been assassinated faster than you can say book depository.

Sounds like there will only be one adult there tomorrow.

Press Sec. on Mamdani: "It speaks volumes that tomorrow, we have a communist coming to the White House — because that's who the Democrat Party elected as the mayor of the largest city in the country."

He is such a toddler in the brain, he simply can't be normal and treat others equally, he can't see there are others in this world that are not like him - ( unless you are a Saudi prince with billion$$$$$ ) --  the first president to not turn up to an inauguration cause he lost, chucked a tantrum, threw the pieces off the board and tipped the board over, spat the dummy, took his bat n ball home you get the idea.

I live to see one day, someone gets to throw a rotten tomato into his hair and we all can have a right ole` larf at the big baby.

I was going through the list of republicans in the house yesterday and noticed there is a distinct lack of colour in their ranks, and any black women ?? lol we do have ONE gentleman of SE asian background. though.

Is this really a true or fair indication of Americans across the country ? Most of the deep red states are heavily populated with non white workers, usually South American and African American.

What she should of said if genuine, was.. "of course" everyone in the media is welcomed. Not this, oh they can come in, but we will check their papers at the door, anyone we don't like the look of will be booted.

The racial and gender demographics of Republicans in the 119th Congress (2025) are as follows:

Racial Demographics of Republicans:

  • 248 Republicans identify as White.

  • 5 identify as African American.

  • 12 identify as Latino.

  • 2 identify as Asian American or Pacific Islander.

  • 4 identify as other races.

Gender Demographics of Republicans:

  • Women make up about 41 of the Republican members in Congress, based on the number of women overall in Congress being 152 (41 Republicans).

  • Most Republican members are male.

Summary:
The Republican caucus in Congress is predominantly White, with a small number of Black, Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander, and others. Women constitute a minority within the Republican caucus compared to men. This reflects the overall demographic trends where the GOP is less racially and gender diverse than Democrats in Congress. These figures highlight the demographic composition of Republicans in the current Congress, as of early 2025.

What do you mean 'identify as'?

If I started identifying as Latino does that make me Latino?

You're either something or you're not. Doesn't matter what 'identify as'.
