Barry Cassidy said on Friday night that, as SC said the contents weren't known by all parties the ABC decided to take a step back but are expected to just delay it a week, unless Morrison or Stewart take out an injunction and try to stop it.

I’m starting to worry about you Bob.

Are you saying it’s a stitch up, purely on the basis that Milligan had input?

I suppose it was delayed due to political interference.
It had been cleared by their legal team.

Do you understand much about litigation?
When someone commences defamation their goal is one, or preferably all of the following:

Removal of the article
An apology which includes a statement acknowledging a misstatement of facts
Compensation

As an aside Porter received none of these....

Remember the outrage when Louise Milligan exposed the behavior of Alan Tudge and Porter and Paul Fletcher demanded Ita sack her? Tudge later apologised for his behavior and Porter's wife left him.

The problem with Louise is that she keeps nailing these people.

I see today the ABC paid Christian Porter's legal fees of around $80,000 and their own of around $680,000 for the total of $680,000, no wonder they canned that episode of 4 Corners on Morrison if they were to be threatened by legal action by Morrison. Mr Anderson was grilled for three hours on the two matters at a Senate estimates hearing, where he sought to defend the ABC’s journalism and employees’ conduct on social media.

Addressing the controversy around the QAnon episode, Mr Anderson said the program might still air as he explained his decision last week to delay it days out from its scheduled broadcast. The Four Corners team is pushing for it to air in the next fortnight.

“I believe there’s been no intervention by any one of the government or anyone else to suggest that that program should not go to air,” Mr Anderson told the hearing.

He said he’d received a written response from the reporting team, which he had yet to review, that sought to address his concerns the story was not ready for broadcast.

“I didn’t pull the story. The story is underway. It very well may go to air,” he said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison publicly criticised Four Corners last week for “poor form” by attempting to explore his connections to QAnon supporter, Tim Stewart, who has been known to the Morrison family for years. Mr Morrison said it was “deeply offensive” to suggest he had any association with the QAnon movement. more...

Let's get it right Bob.  The ABC covered Porter's legal fees for one advisor to the tune of $80-100k which is a long way shy of his actual legal costs.  And the other figure relates to the ABC's legal fees which were applicable irrespective of whether the action continued or not.

Which it didn't because the assh0le was advised his action had little or no likelihood of success.

SC, where did you access Porter's legal costs ? Just say you are guessing and really do not know.

My reading of Anderson's answering of questions was they each paid their own legal costs but the ABC paid the cost of the mediation because they had rejected Porter's offers to settle, that being $100k.

Correct PT, I stand slightly corrected.

Bottom line: Porter withdrew and received three fifths of two thirds of f-all.  A miserable capitulation by the serially persuasive but ultimately unwanted pants man quite irrespective of the rape issue.

I think he is still stuck on the 4 corners story though, despite the explanation in Senate estimates.

I love how Morrison was outraged at suggestions he was linked to Qanon when the family friends are all Qanon nutters banned from social media because of their repeated hate content and bizarre rantings.

Twitter says it permanently suspended a QAnon account belonging to a family friend of the prime minister, Scott Morrison, for “engaging in coordinated harmful activity”.

Twitter is in the middle of a broader crackdown on QAnon content and is attempting to reduce the amplification of accounts spreading “clear and well-documented informational, physical, societal and psychological offline harm on our service”.

BurnedSpy34, a prominent and prolific member of the Australian QAnon scene, was recently permanently suspended.

The man behind the account, Tim Stewart, regularly tweeted content associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory to his tens of thousands of followers, including bizarre and unfounded claims about Alexander Downer and Julie Bishop, among others.

“The account you mentioned below has been permanently suspended for engaging in coordinated harmful activity,” a Twitter spokeswoman said.

Last year, the Guardian revealed that the owner of the account was a long-standing family friend of the Australian prime minister and his wife, Jenny. The families’ association was driven by the friendship between Stewart’s wife and Jenny.

His wife worked on the prime minister’s staff in a publicly funded position but not in any policy or advisory capacity. There is no evidence she shares her husband’s views. It is not clear whether the employment arrangement is ongoing. more...

I am sure it will be like everything else with Morrison and scandal. Nobody in security or his office thought to tell him his friend is a dangerous nutter, he is only PM after-all.

That’s an idiotic view.
Why would Porters cost be 15% of the ABC’s?

$80k was his costs for the mediation process only.

Can we have a show of hands as to who is clueless enough to believe that Porter won this thing? Would be good for a laugh to know who we’re dealing with here.

“On behalf of the ABC, I’m not humiliated and we do not regret the article,” he said.

"The ABC has not issued an apology, the ABC stands by its journalism, the article in question remains online, it remains unchanged and available for everyone to see it," he said.

There’s only 3 objectives when initiating defamation proceedings.

Remove the article
Receive apology
Receive cash for your “injuries”

Porter is 0/3

A resounding and humiliating loss for the form AG

Michael Kroger, a former ABC board member, was on Sky this evening quoting from a document in front of him, saying Porter's mediation costs were $25k not $80k.

On Sky?
So, no bias......

Kroger reading off a document?
Bet he didn’t state what the document was, or the source?
That’s very Trumpian of him.

IF Porter received any sum other than a portion of his legal fees, why didn’t he trumpet that fact.
Why are the other side offering to publicise Porters offer to settle?

Anderson's evidence to the senate today

The ABC will pay $100,000 in mediation costs to Christian Porter’s legal firm, ABC managing director David Anderson has told parliament.

Under the agreement between the ABC and Porter, the ABC was given permission to tell the Senate details of the otherwise confidential agreement.

Why would Porter try twice to settle and avoid a trial Bob?

Explaining the ABC’s decision to settle with Mr Porter, Mr Anderson said the broadcaster was facing costs of up to $1.5 million to defend the matter in a three-week trial. He confirmed the ABC had paid no damages to Mr Porter, and revealed the minister made two offers to settle the case before the ABC initiated mediation in May – one before and one after the ABC filed its defence, 27 pages of which have been redacted from the public domain.

A major part of the settlement, was that the ABC had to agree with Porters request to the court to forever hide the redacted portion of the ABC defence.
Oh, and now he doesn’t have to give sworn evidence, that would have been cross examined.

Clearly, the actions of a man desperate to lift the fog on the facts around the accusations against him.

Unfit for office.
