Following revelations of her prior knowledge of the overbudget and the imminent cancellation of the Commonwealth Games, despite her pumping up of the Games right up to Dan's announcement of their cancellation, Jacinta Allan's honeymoon as Premier is now well and truly over.

I will give her 6 months. She has not come clean on what she knew about the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games prior to the announcement by Dictator Dan.

What should she have done and when? What difference would a few weeks or months have made? The games are in 2026.

It is not the timing, it is the prevarication in her replies already into her premiership that are of concern. She might finish up as a clone of Dan who used to say, " I'm not here to talk about that", or "that is not my focus " or "that is a matter for (insert name )" when battling away awkward questions with non-answers at press conferences.
Remembering that Andrews was the most effective politician in recent Australian history.

Jacinta Allan looks as if she will be under pressure from public service unions as they begin negotiations to work less hours. Unbelievably the Community and Public Service Union is seeking a 20% pay increase over four years as well as the introduction of a formal pilot program for a four-day working week across worksites.
The proposed program would be based on a "100% of pay and 80% of work hours".
Is this union aware Allan has to grapple with record debt levels, just as the executive director of Small Business Australia suggests " tell them they are dreaming ". |

20% over 4 years, 5% a year. Does that keep pace with inflation? Sounds pretty modest.
The rest is just bargaining chips to get the 20%.

SC, I know Jacinta Allan, the new Premier of Victoria, is your local member of parliament and you previously have gone into bat on her behalf, but do you really think she is qualified enough to run the multibillion-dollar economy of Victoria ?
She joined the ALP at the age of 19 whilst studying to Latrobe University where she graduated with an Arts Degree. Whilst doing that degree she worked as an ALP political staffer before being elected to parliament at the age of 25. I suppose her political background has done her no harm along the way to achieve the Premiership of Victoria. Her father was the President of the Trades Hall Council in Bendigo and her second husband, an ex CFMEU official is a Labor Ministerial adviser. She is now 50 years of age so for the past 31 years she has been on the public payroll all her entire life, with no real-work experience, let alone how to run a business or take a personal risk financing one or sticking to a budget. She has been the Minister for two infrastructure projects the Suburban Rail Loop and the Metro Tunnel , both reported to be over budget by hundreds of millions of dollars, yet it gets worse, she was the Minister for The Commonwealth Games and we all know how that has gone . Here we are today, and she is the Premier of Victoria . ![]() ![]() |

I could quickly name any number of Liberal Party members of Parliament who've never had a "real" job.
At Federal level that includes Tony Abbott who worked for 5 minutes before entering politics, and State-wise your beloved old mate Henry Bolte. That of course excludes Morrison who's had a series of real jobs and been sacked from every one of them. I also note you've clearly been reading Steve "garden gnome" Price's opinion piece on Allan in the the Herald-Sun which is like every one of his appallingly biased articles is little more than a rabid right wing attempted hatchet job.

Premier Jacinta Allan gave an assurance to Commonwealth Games
officials in April that the event’s entire budget would be available despite
soaring cost pressures. Commonwealth Games Australia boss
Craig Phillips AM told a parliamentary inquiry on Monday that he proposed cost saving measures to Ms
Allan, who at the time was the minister responsible for delivering the Games. “We got the impression that she was
very confident that the budget would be available,” Mr Phillips said. The Victorian government pulled out of hosting the 2026 games in July, blaming a higher-than-forecast cost for the sudden
cancellation. The inquiry also heard that part of
the $380m compensation fee charged to Victorian taxpayers could go towards
paying tax in the UK. Mr Phillips added that part of that
fee would also be put towards staging the 2026 event in another city. The Victorian government is yet to pay
that fee, but Mr Phillips said that delay was brought on by the Commonwealth
Games Federation. |

Bob, no-one much cares and most are simply happy the Government saved rate and tax payers about $4b.
Some are rather more interested in the Pessuto/Deeming legal stoush that's been going on for many months now at the expense of a half-way effective opposition party.

Just think Jacinta Allan, the Premier of Victoria, was the Minister for the Commonwealth Games and now she is the Premier of a state with a multi-billion economy.
Events
industry figure Simon Thewlis has
slammed the government’s handling of the Commonwealth Games, claiming that few
people involved in the process actually had real-life major event experience. It comes as
the head of the federal infrastructure department revealed he does not think
the 2026 Commonwealth Games will go ahead. Mr Thewlis,
who has worked in the industry for 40 years and was a key figure in the Save
Victorian Events campaign during the pandemic, said the cancellation of the
2026 event is a “kick in the guts” to an industry that had struggled throughout
Covid. “Victoria’s
event industry has gone through a lot since March 13 2020. This episode is
really the final insult (and) the biggest debacle in the history of events in
Australia,” he said. “We
suffered by the lack of support and lack of listening during Covid, and we
suffer now because a great event, that should have happened, was bailed on. “At the end
of the day, a bunch of people with little to no real operational major event
experience tried to organise one of the largest events our country has seen.
They thought they knew better than the event industry. “The
Victorian government owes the event industry an apology and a commitment that
they will finally listen to the industry that gave Victoria its reputation as
an event stage in the first place.” Meanwhile,
department secretary Jim Betts was on Monday grilled about Australia’s attempts
to salvage the global sporting event during a Senate estimates hearing. Asked if he
would be supportive of attending a Commonwealth Games hosted by the Gold Coast,
Mr Betts said: “That is asking for an opinion, unless you mean attending in
terms of tickets, in which case I don’t think there’s going to be a
Commonwealth Games, so they wouldn’t be worth the paper they’re printed on”. He later
backtracked saying he didn’t understand the question, adding he would have
“absolutely no insight”. “I’m not
responsible for any decisions at any level of government about whether and
where the Commonwealth Games might proceed,” Mr Betts said. “We might
have had a role in terms of providing co-funding for various aspects of the
Commonwealth Games had the Victorian government decided to proceed with them,
but that appears not to be the case.” Australia’s
peak volleyball body has warned Victoria will be a “place to avoid” for hosting
even Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said the
state’s reputation as a major events destination had taken a massive hit. It comes
just days after Visit Victoria chief Brendan McClements claimed that the government’s
decision to scrap the event had actually increased international interest in
the state. Mr Dee hit
back at Mr McClements’ comments, stating: “I expect Victoria for some time will
be a place to avoid if you’re wanting to put on an event there.” Mr Dee said
he met regularly with the CEOs of other major sporting bodies who also shared
his sentiment. “I don’t
think any of my colleagues would agree with (Mr McClements’) statement either,”
he said. As revealed in July, the Victorian government secretly pulled the plug on
the 2025 beach volleyball world championships lead-up event in Torquay that
left the sport scrambling to salvage its’ international reputation. Mr Dee said
the sport was left “high and dry” by the government’s decision. Mr Dee said
Volleyball Australia would “absolutely” have to reconsider dealing with the
Victorian government again in future. “We
certainly would approach it differently,” he said. “We would
certainly want to undertake some assurances. We would certainly want sanctions
and penalties for breach of contract. “Never in
your wildest dreams would you have thought that the Commonwealth Games would be
cancelled after signing the contract. “The
reputational damage is significant. Other jurisdictions in the country will be
preferred over Victoria for some time to come, both internally within Australia
but also by international bodies overseas. I think that’s just a fact that will
play out over time.” |

Does anyone other than athletes really care if Victoria has a Commonwealth Games in 2026?
When they find another host will anyone remember? The Herald Sun will be too occupied defending their right to lie to get Tories elected by then.

Well Premier Allan has come out shocked by a cartoon in the Herald Sun depicting her as "the emperor with no clothes" at Melbourne's Fashion Week. The cartoon drew her as a naked catwalk model, with pixelations over her breasts and lower waist and was based on her refusal to appear before the Victorian Upper House enquiry into the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games for which she was the Minister for the Commonweath Games.
Despite cartoons in the past having depicted former politicians such as Dan Andrews, Tony Abbott, Peter Dutton, Paul Keating etc in near nakedness, not surprisingly the ABC has interviewed a conga line of females who are all appalled by the cartoon, yet at no time in the past did any of those interviewees ever express any outrage at those cartoons drawn of Andrews, Abbott, Dutton or Keating. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

The cr2@ cartoon has been covered by all media outlets and for the most part has elicited disgust or disapproval from all sides of politics and all walks of life.
And it wasn't just nudity aspect, but equally the appalling characterization of her facial features where she was clearly portrayed as an ugly hag.

SC, well I do not think she could possibly have won Fashions on the Field at the Bendigo Cup Day in her youth, and that might be reflected in her physical features today.

SC, suggested she was portrayed as a hag in the cartoon, which is the license every cartoonist is given. They always accentuate the physical features whoever the depict, if a politician, of any sex, cannot accept those characterizations they should take a teaspoon of cement and harden up.

Unbelievably under current legislation in Victoria police are powerless to stop any protestors from unfurling banners of inappropriate images or stop chanting of hateful language. Police can only take action within the confines of the current law and will only act where there if there is a threat of violence or property damage.
This is the same police force who had no qualms about harassing old women sitting on park benches or a pregnant woman in her own kitchen during Dan's lockdowns during Covid 19, but when it comes to activist protestors the police are reluctant to act. Jacinta, now that you are premier, you should immediately legislate to change the current law. |
